Why is wearing a hat not always possible? You've lost me. In hot weather I've sometimes improvised and used towels, cardboard boxes or bags. But a hat by any other name would smell as sweet.
"Overpriced"? I have to disagree.
Classical music CDs rarely make money - 'cept for the 'crossover' genre - and yet they continually make them. More than that, the recording companies usually do the best job they possibly can in terms of hiring orchestras, choirs, music halls, solists, etc...
Such recordings can only be subsidized by the sales of B-Z Top and his Furious Five - or whatever the latest Rap sensation is.
Of course, some record companies do just trouser the profits...
I've got a wish to visit the States, (good food, great countryside, nice people) but last time I was there was in the late 90s, on business. Clinton was in power. Until you guys lose Dubya, I'm viewing other holiday destinations as being far easier to get into, live in, and get out of.
And I can't believe I'm the only traveller making this decision.
Heck, that's quite something. I instinctively winced with the sequence about the catheter from the groin to the heart...
If I may - there's insufficient data to rule out life after death based on that. You weren't dead. I mean, you're here now. Dead (to most of us) means gone, kaput, nada, the big zero. No coming back . You weren't not coming back, because you came back.
Now I'm not a born-again sort-of-dude (heck, by no means) but it does seem extremely wasteful of mother nature to just toss away the contents when the container wears out. No doubt there's other more suitable metaphors but that's one I picked on.
Maybe cliniically dead =/ dead? Is there a metaphysicist in the house?
When was that? I'm guessing late 70s (the Andy Williams show dates back to then).
For the younger set: the virus used to take over the screen with the text "I'm the cookie monster - I want a cookie". Then "Cookie Cookie Cookie". You had to type in "COOKIE" to stop it.
I've been on Burroughs/Unisys mainframes since the late 70s. (Not just, but mainly). I'm currently working on a Clearpath box, using scripts that I wrote back in 1985 that still work, without intervention from me.
I know it's a competitive world and all that, but surely winning the game isn't the point. It's playing it.
I remember once seeing someone play a cheat in the original AOE, where there was a tank stomping around, throwing HE shells at stone age technologies. Yep. Lots of fun. Not.
And ages ago, back when REAL video games involved a small amount of money put into a slot on a pier, some of us would actually play worse than we could, so as to make the money go further. (Of course in those days, money was really worth something. Etc Etc)
Get low-tech here. Phone calls aren't private - not because they can be wire-tapped, but because they can be overheard. From where I sit (in my cubicle) I can overhear two or three phone calls going on.
When I want to talk privately, I could grab an empty office - or more reliably, talk in code. As in "Any chance of being on the team tonight, love?"
For what's its worth, I entirely agree. If you can't afford it, don't buy it.
For the slashdotter from Argentina - if using Microsoft SW is a requirement but people can't afford to buy legit copies - then eventually all MS users will be, de facto, criminals. When the MS userbase is either small or full of crooks, MS may get the message that their software is overpriced. If that's the right message.
.. really. I use service, reliability and cost to determine whether I go wireless or not. It's not how sexy the ads are. Maybe the article is saying that under-30s are more susceptible to advertising?
What I find interesting in the current place where I work is the SysAdmin isn't that good - but gives you the impression that he is. I think good sysadmins have to emanate an auro of "it's ok - I'm on it" even when that impression is false. For me, I know that the guy is a dickhead - but in conversation with him you still get the impression that you're in safe hands.
Conversely, we've another guy who really knows his stuff but who is nervous and soft-spoken. No-one goes to him. Well, except for me.
Out of the three so far, this still the best (I think). Graphics are excellent - not perfect but good enough and the flick between the strategy map and tactical battles means life's too short.
- define not qualified, uninformed, clueless, etc. Most of the voting public would fit this bill (imho). The media doesn't do a grand job in educating the public in terms of issues, preferring to stick with personalities.
- in the current system, the most qualifed, informed, clued-up voter who knows exactly what the issues are and votes accordingly gets his vote nullified by Joe Six-pack who's voting for the smiling man he saw on TV last night.
And personally, I haven't voted yet because
- none of the representatives represent my views
- none of the reprepentatives are compelled to stick to their ticket. Once they're in, they do what they want (or are told)
- rarely does a political party allow a representative to vote "conscience" - normally, it's a "party vote".
Thanks from me for the links too. No more Notepad for Perl scripts. I always suspected that there was a good editor out there (and some snappier doco). Downloading now...

PS I'm joking

Sorry, but isn't the pirate code more like, well, guidelines?
So it wasn't just me that thought of Tony Hancock, rather than the US founding father ...
And I can't believe I'm the only traveller making this decision.
As per the mantra ...
1: Release base version
2: Make money
3: Release patched version
4: GOTO 2 and meanwhile ..
5: PROFIT !
That's always bugged me too - who are these people who ork cows?

Let's see a PC script do that.
Wonder if XP support will outlast Vista support? That'll be a hoot.

Noble words though - just remember that they don't mean what they say.

I think we're ok as long we have two citizens outside for every city. And we have Agriculture :)

Oh yeah, I'm over 30. So what.
Sorry - I don't watch Babylon 5 - but wouldn't the sequel obviously be called Babylon 6? :)

Maybe we should mate them and hire the offspring.

That's not democracy.
And don't forget the green men... Tars Tarkas, etc...
(Q.E.D).
