    Amen to that - I got offered a job in Pennsylvania once - beautiful state (lucky people who live there). Job came with two weeks holiday a year. I was getting four a year in the UK at the time.

    That caught me as well - when I heard about 'Adult games' on the Wii, I thought something that wasn't geared towards the youth market. Not random killing, etc. Maybe something on the Stock market, or geopolitical situation...

    Disagree. It's not that the British Empire was not a nice place, it's the world at that time that was pretty rough. The British Empire had it's faults (Irish potato famine is one you missed .. not to mention Northern Ireland, Indian mutiny .....) but it also banned slavery - a huge moneyspinner at the time - fought several oppressive dictatorships for little or no gain (why didn't Britain take over Europe in 1815? or take the peace offered by Hitler in 1940?) and helped sort out the mess in India. Without the Brits, the untouchables' lot would still be intolerable. Rather than just nasty as it is now.

    Read Niall Ferguson's 'Empire' for some more intelligent comment.

    Damn right. I take the car to the station, train to the CBD, walk the rest. Train hourney is about 40 mins. It's been a long time since I read this many books in a month.

I've no doubts that there have been incidents where offshore foreign workers have been bribed to provide account information. I've few doubts that this has some US employees have taken bribes, some UK employees, etc etc...

    Some people are crooks. It's not that they're not americans that make them crooks. It's the fault of ..., well, if I knew that, I'd be laughing.

    Have to say that I also take exception to the "starting in 2002 we gave away our dominance...". Remember that /. readers aren't all American. You've just alienated every non-US worker, especially those offshore.

    Not so - having a head-of-state that is not associated with a political party is a great idea.

    Heads of state can represent the country and the national identity - handy for pinning on medals, memorial services, etc. Heads of government represent their political party.

    Now the Queen/King thing ... well, at least this way you know what you're up for. :)

    Back in the '80s, my Dad and stepmother were watching a TV show on Bletchley here in NZ. During the adverts, My Dad mentioned that he'd been there (minor capacity - probably a clerk, but lord knows). Turns out that my stepmother was there too, different dates.

    What I thought interesting was that they didn't talk about it for at least 40 years after the work there. The security aspect, and war reticence, I guess.
