Actually it would be apples to apples as all those Windows OSes are NT-kernel based. And results are very predictable. But comparing OS9 with OSX, that can be very interesting. They changed the whole OS in the meantime. Plus adding few versions of OS X, as Apple is very actively developing it.
Good point. But honestly what's the point of using patents against army of geeks? That just makes it easier for court to throw away the patent as aforementioned army of geeks will for sure find some prior art.
IMHO, it's the easiest way to loose the patent, not to actually win anything.
Because of that errors I was recommending it. We understand mistakes he made, but most of the people have no clue. And the message is even more powerful, because of those inaccuracies. If you want to keep people interested - shock them!
Anyway, he deserved it. Film is one, but his travelling around the world and all those presentations is another thing.
Right now I'm paying £24 for 24Mb down, 1.3Mb up. Effective transfer is about 13Mb down as it's ADSL2+. But they're changing price model and starting next month I will pay only £18. Everything unlimited.
Actually, I read some article about it. Creators of 'Net made a mistake with domain names - but when they realised it was too late. They logically should be made in this way - top to bottom. Protocol://TLD.domain name/rest of URI. I cannot find where I've seen it...
I've seen the same. Actually my server has been offline for last few days as it became compromised and I don't have time to sort it out. I got like thousands of bruteforce attacks on ftp plus some on phpBB. I also noticed few weeks ago that when they couldn't break in they just DDosed it.
It looks like it's getting serious, especially if you're server is registered with some DNS name, not just IP.
Hopefully it will get to news.bbc.co.uk, as it's regarded as one of still pretty credible news outlets. Does anybody know how to submit it to them? Or maybe some tabloids? The Sun, Daily Mail... sounds like a task for Sunday!
Your're right. That war has nothing to do with monopoly, and shouldn't be touched by EU. Both groups have more than enough cash to persuade whoever they want to join their camp. Overall the one with better connections and marketing power will win.
Can somebody tell me how long will it take to hack into this box and reuse the code in some PC apps? I don't think film studios are going to be particularly happy and enthusiastic about it. Plus of course it will need to use DRM. Which one? Most of them are already broken, or will be in not-so-long time. And royalties will need to go to someone.
As always, idea is brilliant, but there's a chance that MPIA will block it before it actually starts. They're just too scared of any new technologies...
Say it to all kids in UK who vandalize everything around without even a slap in hand. But for piggybacking wi-fi they charge you £500. Cool. They should also put him in jail, just to show how dangerous for society his actions were.
UK has a lousiest law system in the world, IMHO. I know it well - I live here.
Did you think they will "abort" something they pumped several (possibly hundreds) millions dollars into? Obviously they just made an announcement to divert public attention from it. Nothing new I would say.
Not necessarily. If it can save YouTube's arse from all lawsuits, it will stay as it is. Not to mention that YouTube's servers are even now sometimes quite hard to access. Better quality means more bandwidth - not the whole world can afford it. Or maybe only some part of content will be available in HiRes, like for example definitely legal stuff? Who knows.
Finally somebody got into their heads that quality of YouTube is crap and broadcasting programs there will work only as an advertisement. What's the point of suing them if you can work with them and have advertisement for free. If somebody likes their programmes they will watch them on telly anyway. Think about watching Attenborough's programs and thinking: "Are those 20 pixels a lion trying to catch an antilope (other 20 pixels)?"
And for commercial stations that would be even better - they would be able to add some of advertising, or such.
Difference is that Sanyo's batteries need to be hit quite hard in a corner to overheat, but Sony's have it as a standard feature. Hard to blame Sanyo for users' actions. Like dropping a laptop. ouch!
Cosa Nostra, anybody?
George Lucas should do it - he tried already on Star Wars.
DISCLAIMER: Effects may vary.

Can somebody do it, please?
It's also equivalent to Olympic-sized swimming pool full of zeroes and ones. Just to precise.

Australia seems expensive, IMHO.
I mean they chose it as it sounded better. But logically, it should be the other way around.

That's the true spirit of GNULinux - choice. That's why GNU/Linux is for everybody - you can have it in whatever flavour you like!
Have you heard about Darwin Awards?

Now they will have their inboxes full of SPAM. Internet pollution anybody?

Just my 2p.
But does it run on Linux???
//How long is the piece of string?
;)
From one end to another...
