"So thanks, Bush, for empowering the banks to further the exploitation of the American people" You are thanking the wrong person for that...thank your liberal socialist leaders(Reid, Frank..etc..) and your candidate for president, Obama. They are the ones that forced banks to give mortgages to people that could not afford it. They were warned in the past, but chose to get rich on the kickbacks. Do you really think these folks want to give up their millions? This reduction of the gas prices shows that the larger the gas supply becomes (whether through less use or the US starting to drill or at least threatining to drill) the lower the price falls. This also shows that your liberal socialist leaders are not only wrong but that they know they are wrong. They want the poor and uneducated to stay that way, so that they can continue to run campaigns of fear without substance. You can come to these conclusions one of two ways; use your brain and go over everything Obama has said or elect him and see how many of his promises come true. This country is on the verge of a crisis...and it begins with the election of Barack Obama.

It would also allow them to make sure people who can easily afford private insurance don't get something for free(based on the posts here most of you would want the coupons regardless of your actual need, just like what would happen with a Universal Healthcare) ...uhhh, yeah I am opposed to giving the coupons it is not governments responsibilty. nor is healthcare.

I think the story (if true) only shows the sad state of IT and computer instruction in our schools.

I face the same thing at my workplace, I use a USB drive with portable apps to do my browsing and e-mail...etc. Am I going against IT rules, you bet! I suspect that they are too ignorant to even realize what I am doing anyway. Why don't I work in IT? It doesn't pay as much as what I am doing.

I work in a state government office (less details the better). We unfortunately have very poor IT. Most of it is outsourced to someone else, but we still have some in house IT staff. * IT problems must be run through the typical uneducated phone staff, who rummage through a notebook with common errors and solutions. Needless to say this just a delay in getting real help. * I have Admin rights to my WinXP machine, as I suspect most of the workers here do as well. * We have been infected statewide by viri on a couple occassions, and it seems most attacks originate within the main state office through e-mails and not with the majority of the peons out in the field.(that would be me). * I have violated the IT polices since I started 9 years ago. I have done this to make my machine more secure. I run firefox with script block and adblock for all browsing (except for state online apps that will only accept IE.(we still use IE 6). * I regulary run Spybot S&D(against IT policy) to remove anything that gets through.(which has been virtually reduced to nothing since I started using Firefox). * I run firefox, thunderbird and other applications from a USB key to insure that damage will be contained and that my history (browsing /. and the like will not be known). * I have found that e-mail will not allow sending of exe, com, bat and zip files, however, simply changing the extension will allow it to be sent. Yet they ban us from using webmail ( I do so anyway). There is more things to list, but I need to get back to work...:p *

Just using a computer is pretty freaking intimidating for the "average computer user" windows or not. I think you need to define what is a "problem". "its so easy to install programs on Windows that they practically do it themselves" sure they can, but when it crashes they have no idea what to do. The issue here is, that the majority of computer users have very little technical knowledge and would be helpless with any operating system when faced with an crash or blue screen...etc. Of course they can just reboot, that tends to fix some errors...but I bet the majority have no idea why. The learning curve for linux is the same as windows, the user just has to try learning it. Most people start with windows with their hands held, they figure things out, they learn a few tricks and then assume they know all there is to know. They are reluctant to change and tend to rationalize why windows is better than linux.
