That i'm a heartless government financial officer defend why i decided to outsource these projects:
In the event of a successful hacking attempt on our software and our local operations are comprimised, the estimated replacement costs of both hardware and troops is A.
A software devolopment endeavor of this type is costly if spearheaded locally due to security policies, high pay for skilled professionals, and according to market analysis would require a budget of B.
Outsourcing the development project will lower the cost by 100,000/year/person. This option can be expedited due to minimal security levels and media exposure. Estimated cost: C
now for the calculation: If B - C > A, then Project = Outsourced Remainder forwarded to local payroll account/my impression of the article.
My roommate has the BC beta and i've watched him play. Honestly, i'm surprised it's even in beta, i think it should still be in alpha status. Of the 5 or so hours of gameplay i've seen so far, i have witnessed: 1- Loot rolls being won, but the item doesn't go into your bag. The item was 'lost' since he couln't loot the body anymore. 2- Just clicking on a particular elite mob crashed wow to the desktop, twice. 3- There were several mobs that didn't have any animation assigned to them. they were just these floating statues and you couldn't tell who they were attacking or if they were even dead yet. 4- He has mostly tier 2.5 and 3 gear, and is a freakishly amazing pvper, yet he was easily killed by a rogue only 2 lvls higher. he used to be able to just laugh at rogues with his mail armor and shield, now it appears the lvls signify an overpowering leap in stats making it unfair. 5- I don't know about him, but if I had worked relentlessly, giving up my life to get the uber leet T3 armor, and then see GREEN everyday items drop in BC that are actually better the most sought after gear in the normal game......I'd get so bitter i would prolly logoff and uninstall right that second!
I have seen alot more than this, but all i can say is that the game is nowhere near ready for release. They need to realize that it affects over 6million of us now and most of us like it just the way it is. Also, we already have to deal with the dreaded 'patch day' every tuesday where our servers are offine, we can't play and then we get to read about how they changed the game yet again.
This is just my opinion of the game from what i have seen. I mean no harm to Blizz, and i'm sure that with $(6million X $15 / Month) they can afford to devolop the game into truly one for the recordbooks.
From what i have read, programming software to activly take advantage and efficiently manage multiple cores has been exorbitantly difficult to write. Some cite that the coding process 'no longer comes naturally' when having to constantly imagine how to think and process things on multiple cores at once when our minds are typically just one core themselves. Others cite that debugging and troubleshooting is a real hairpuller telling which cores to do what and time themselves at pace with eachother. There are many other hardships, i'm sure, but this is what i see other programmers experiencing.
Final Fantasy 7 is the most popular video game of all time in Japan according to several websites. It is my favorite game of all time and no game since then has come close to making a story that rich and enjoyable. sure, shooters and similar 'brainless' type games are still alot of fun although void of any storyline, but they don't ahve to be since they are played as a simple diversion.
Personally i find it heartbreaking that nobody has made a better story since 1996 when FF7 appeared. how many imaginitive novels have we read as kids that would be AMAZING video game stories today (ENDERS GAME ftw)!! Hell if sony decided to merly update the graphics on FF7 to todays state of the artness, they'd sell milllions.
can it be that game companies just want to get you addicted to their games with the least amount of effort and the most amount of gain? have they no souls?
This 'feature' was released with SP2 and it's called "Set Program Access and Defaults". ironically this was on the top of EVERYone's start menu after installing SP2, yet somehow all of europe missed it. Aparently you need eyedoctors as much as you need orthodontists.
by making the game so terribly addicting and time consuming that I have no time (or interest) left over that would motivate me to even THINK to keep my eye out for new releases. i honestly haven't even looked once for new releases since i started playing wow 4 months ago! i feel i have above average self-control and maturity, so there's gotta be some even more affected lusers stuck in the same hole.
even moreso now that i've vowed to not give up until i have my own Atiesh, Greatstaff of the Guardian for my lock/ZOMGCRITPWNT!.o0^.^0o.
i love the innovation from intel and AMD but i feel their leaps in speed are leaving else behind. Hard Drives - Despite SATA 150 and 300, NCQ, Perpendicular recording, larger buffers, higher rpms and whatnot... they've always been the bottleneck and will be for years to come. THey increase in speed at what 10% a year? Software - VEEEEERRRRRRRYYYYYY few applications, including windows xp (only supporting 2), are coded to use the extra processors and use all their high tech advantages. i'd love to see more software using some processor affinity, some games sending physics calcs to 1 proc and 2D rendering to another proc and anti-lag IO/LAN data to the 3rd proc.....
i guess what i'm saying is that we have other areas that could use some focus and deveopment before we let processors run away from us.
to this day religion has been the largest source of death and despair this planet has ever seen.
umm, no that would be germs/virii. How about abolishing those instead?
Don't bother judging the core of a religion by it's rampant extremists or soon you'll see everyone as "TOO this" or "TOO that," and you'll just end up in a padded room eating jello for eternity.
i understand where you're coming from on this since i did the same thing with Scrubs, Red vs Blue, tons of anime and several movies....
but...
the designed purpose of the radio, television and other advertising (all free btw) is to showcase featured artists and fuel interest and sales.
just because piracy has grown so large that it has become an advertising medium, the majority of people download copyrighted content and never make the honest decision to buy the DVD. Did you and I? sure. are the others? sure, but i doubt it would be higher then 10%, thus the cons outweigh the pros for this example.
as far as the ISP is concerned, you are fully responsible for any and every packet that has your IP address in the header. the field techs in our college areas post little door hangers warning ppl to secure their networks and why. has anyone been prosecuted for it? i'm not sure, but i know my isp disconnected my internet service a while back for allegedly downloading come fashion design software (which is rediculous).
With ATT now keeping a big eye on everyone's network and the government apparently backing them up... i definatly encourage everyone to close their network. i now have mine setup to only allow my specific mac addresses. i'ts not perfect, but it's more than most.
PLZ EVERYONE LOCK DOWN UR SHIT!!
1) From what i've seen so far, MMORPG games can't be cracked and so Piracy cannot take a chunk out of their sales away.
2) MMOs are specifically engineered to take as much of your time as possible. (your time=their money)
2B)MMOs can get very "involved" since you'll meet friends online, have guilds, LAN parties and whutnot, and those just aren't common with retail $50pop games and it takes alot to break away from something you've already invested so much time in.
3)I haven't seen anything, since Kingdom Hearts 2, come out that's worth playing to completion.
4) I'm saving up for the PS3 anyways, yipes!
5)It's summer here, and the central west coast is a paradise too great to miss! Maybe it's the sun taking away from gaming?
i'm only speaking for myself, i have no idea what everyone else is up to these days.
Did anyone notice that this story was written by THE INQUIRER!?! If i wanted a story about alien landings in Iowa (because THAT"S Obviously the place i'd land if i were a hyperintelligent race), or Al gore killing Bigfoot, or monkeys flying out of my ass..............THEN i might look it up in the inquirer.
1. voice takes up VERY little bandwidth, which wouldn't warrant a need for shaping. Bittorrent is a poor example since it's mostly used to distibute illegal software and it can too easily saturate bandwidth for entire neighborhoods.
2. Ask any voip providing company and they'll tell you that VOIP data packets are given top network priority due [mainly] to the emergency 911 service.
3. companies like Verizon and countless others are all a little freaked out about the idea of *losing* their control of the market to a VC that just decides to give away for free. They have time to innovate up their own competitive ideas and personally i'm excited to see how things end up when the dust settles.
---> i'm betting on the cable companies since the super high speed infrastructure is already there for video/internet/voip... and then M2Z for any and all mobile applications outside of the home. That leaves bell monopolies found wanting.
Any network administrator knows they can easily block entire domains from being accessed on several levels : router, security policies, 3rd party crapware, Proxy servers..........
-This would affect the entire school district
-You *could* have blocked all porn sites too if you hadn't botched the www.porn.xxx idea.
-The parental reaction is not unfounded in some cases, but getting the Gov involved will only get your toys and freedoms taken away since we can't learn play nice.
I'm not saying that either should be suppressed to death, but i WHOLEHEARTEDLY agree that schools are not the place for it. Porn is a great business and i think it's healthy for adults, and Myspace is an incredibly entertaining (and rare) site for self-expression.

GG
will the many new amazing and exciting breakthroughs in laser usefulness never cease!?! Is there anything they can't do? Bravo, good sirs, Bravo!
so they're treating someone who's having a hard time managing themselves in the real world, by submerging them in a virtual world?
It didn't work out so well for lawnmowerman, or did it?
