I assume this, because it is the implication of the statement. And even if it was okayed beforehand It gives him an overall unprofessional air.

His cause is too important to trivialise by making himself look unprofessional and rude, even if he is trying to make a point by it. It's simple etiquette to dress formal for a formal occasion.

And its that exact attitude which projects the smelly hippy feel about Open-Sourcerers. It is a sign of respect to conform to this one little request of the hosts.

While the medium does not affect the message it affects the impact. Not conforming to a dress code, that I'm sure they informed him about makes him just seem rude. Can you honestly say that you are just as receptive to someone who is rude as to somebody who is polite, and listens to you?

Your fears are correct, I have a friend who did work experience at PC world. None of the staff had any idea what they were talking about, including those who were supposed to be fixing computers. In fact, the PC fixing unit was one of the worst. If they cannot solve the problem by putting a CD in, or opening it up and checking all the parts are there then they send it back to head office. There is also a "Service" they offer called something like a PC health check. They charge £50 for it. This service involves putting a CD in the PC to check for viruses.

This is why, despite needing a job I am not applying to PC world.

The hardware of my PC is fine, all my problems are software related.

For instance, the boot up problems are caused by several hardrive agrangement changes, ending up with me accidentally installing GRUB installed on an external hard drive. But hopefully, I'll sort all this out when I upgrade.

But its annoying, especially considering how unreliable my PC is at booting up. (The boot up problems are my fault though).

Actually, I find I'm more efficent when working in Windows ME than XP, even XP SP2. Yes it eats memory, takes 10 minutes to load, and crashes frequently, but it does what it's told to do, around when it's told to do it, and it doesn't compress multiple windows into one button on the task bar. All the options I need to access are only a couple of button clicks away, and once you understand its quirks it runs brilliantly. All in all it was a great operating system.

You are arguing with a definition that includes the word expropriate without looking at its definition. Here are the definitions of expropriate as a verb.
-verb (used with object), -ated, -ating.
    1. to take possession of, esp. for public use by the right of eminent domain, thus divesting the title of the private owner: The government expropriated the land for a recreation area.
    2. to dispossess (a person) of ownership: The revolutionary government expropriated the landowners from their estates.
    3. to take (something) from another's possession for one's own use: He expropriated my ideas for his own article.
You'll notice how number 3 references the taking of ideas, thus the definition branches wider than physical property. Now let's look back at the definition of Appropriate, shall we?
    5. to take without permission or consent; seize; expropriate: He appropriated the trust funds for himself.
By Expropriate referencing wider than physical property, and it being used as a definition of appropriate, appropriate references wider than physical property. Thus steal references wider than physical property and the GP was correct.

I whole-heartedly agree with you there, I believe copyright should be capped after a while, 50 years seems a bit excessive to me, but I guess it's better to have a large window, just in case people are still making a good buck from it. But as soon as you die all your IP should become instantly null and void, after all if you make great unique table designs, it doesn't mean your children, or your great-grandchildren can. I am highly pro-copyright, but for it to work there has to be a natural cycle to things. That includes expiry.
