    1) But there is the *option*. And you would be silly not to--it makes the 360 much quieter and in some games, gives better load times. And you're forgetting all the downloadable games from PSN/Live that--oh, wait for it--are saved to the *hard drive.*

    2) Well it's true, that's what. Gone are the days of not having game-stopping bugs on consoles. GTA IV anyone?

    3) Bugs are still ironed out with patches on the PC. They *both* become stable.

    4) Yes, it is true, and just because you choose to ignore it doesn't mean it's not important. I don't think I've ever had an issue in PC Gaming since maybe Diablo 2, released in 2000.

    5) What does that have to do with his point, that you can play on your comfy couch in the living room with a PC, for a while now?
Uh, again ignoring it because you can't argue with it. And again, it's true. Just bought a 22", before using my 40" LCD TV as my main display. Feels even bigger, I was surprised.

Yes you are saying it's inferior, and in reponse to your last 3 points in your conclusion:

    1) What does "dedicated to gaming mean?" A machine either plays games or not, and PC's do.

    2) My games on the PC come on in seconds when I click the icon--hello? And if anything, PC games have significantly faster load-times during the course of gameplay.

    3) You're just wrong. I haven't had a game choke on me in almost a decade. I think you may not be the sharpest tool in the shed if you have all these "problems."

Good counterpoint, but I used those examples though to actually address what you said. I meant Mario Party #56 as in I've played a million Mario games since SMB1, and a million Mario Karts, and a million Smash Brothers, ad nauseum. Even Metroid. Played Metroid, all the Game Boy ones, the GBA's, and Super Metroid. After a while you get tired of the same thing over and over and over (and it's not exactly like most Nintendo titles are known for their deep storylines to keep your interest, save for maybe Metroid which has *some* semblence of a storyline). And while those titles you mentioned are regarded as good, you can't argue that besides the core Nintendo library, about 10 games, the rest are shovelware. And the rare non-shovelware titles even have core gameplay involving "Shaking the Wiimote."

I mean specifically that most likely that there are no new versions or patches to fix bugs. There is a Firefox 3.5, but 3.5.1 fixes things. There is no "BankSoftware" 1.0 app followed by "BankSoftware" 1.1. Exploits, data loss, and bricking i foresee being higher than normal. I was thinking to myself that this is just another 3D platformer--that was done with every 3D game before it. Yes there are new elements, etc., but once you have played about 20 games with the same setup, it's the same. What I mean is: play Mario 64, then play Psychonauts, then Ratchet & Clank, then Hulk: Ultimate Destruction (or whatever it's called). Notice a pattern? After about 20 of these, you realize it's the same game.

I can still play FF 1 or Dragon Warrior on my NES almost 3 decades later. And one can still find patches or a patched PC game *somewhere*. But Oblivion or GTA4 without patches from Live/PSN? Forget it, pre-patched they're broken and non-functional. And you can only get it from one source. I'm very curious as to how Sony/MS will handle legacy hardware/games when new consoles are released. I got a kick out of your post. However, he scary thing is that it's actually true. Having played video games for a verrrry long time, I think we have to shift our views on things.

View all video games as rentals--and treat them as such, so we're no longer ripped off. Never pay full price. Only pay what a rental price would be. I always wait until the price drops significantly and/or buy used. For example, Saints Row 2 on Amazon is already only $5. Another example: pick up cheap deals on Steam--like when Bioshock was $5. This way if DRM/online play is screwed, you are only out $5-10.

And a side rant: reviews are all bought. We can't trust them. Forget them. And don't buy games based on them anymore. Either rent the game (console) to see if you like them first or play a demo (PC). Yes, demos are not the greatest indicator, but if you play video games long enough you know what to look for in a demo that pretty much will tell you if the game is worth buying.

If you are a first time buyer, you won't be getting the Arcade version for $200, so you're looking at $300. And in this day and age you *must* have XBOX Live, if just for game patches. So unless you are lucky enough to have an CAT5 cable running to your living room, wireless is it. Boom, $400 right there. Yes, you could hook it up to a laptop and bridge it for cheaper, but the average consumer doesn't know how. And even if they did, that means you have to keep a laptop running in your living room every time you need it.

Also, being on my 5th replacement XBOX unit (even though I keep it perfectly ventilated by not being in any sort of open enclosure), I can tell you that any sort of premium is well worth not having to deal with the hassle of calling customer support every time and packing it up and driving to a UPS.
