Along with the one child per household and the human rights violations that are occuring they've got a huge battle ahead of them. It's gonna be a long road...
I'm right in that target demographic and let me tell you...Between my wife, my kid, and twins on the way, I don't have money to toss at HD-DVD or Blu-ray. Not when my DVD player works fine, and it plays Divx too. Besides, 480 is plenty good for cartoony stuff.
What are you talking about? Everyone who's seen at least one blue screen or "illegal operation" (particularly if they've been around the peek of Windows 95/98) would have something to say about Microsoft.
Perhaps you're suggesting people have forgotten, which is fair enough.
I've had my share of bsod's and illegal operations. I even owned a copy of WinME. I've had a lot of headaches over the years. I've also had a number of crashes in Linux. I certainly haven't forgotten. I just don't think it's that big of a deal. Certainly there was some bad programming. It happens all over the place and MS wasn't the first, wasn't the worst, and won't be the last.
The real question is, why does everyone flip out when MS attempts to bring out a new product/service? Do you really expect them to just stop right where they are and do nothing? If you haven't seen some of the other home services that have been in development (by MS and others) this fits right in with that line of products. There will be others that will be competing in this market, and competition is good for everybody.
Excellent post! Where are my mod points when I need em'!
As an American I can tell you that Joe Q. Public doesn't know enough about China and India. I think most are too focused on Iraq to even take notice, or maybe it's Paris/Britney/Whoeverthef#@K. In any case I think China is poised to make a killing in some pretty big upcoming technologies. They're way ahead in battery technology and production. They also provide nearly every Walmart with lead tainted toys(Mattel) and rohypnol play beads(Aqua Dots). Our kids are going to be FUBAR!
But anyways...both India and China still have their problems to work out. They're far too numerous to start talking about here though, but bet your ass I'm keeping an eye on them!
As a side note, I recently had to call MS support to authenticate my XP install (had exceeded my allowed install #). I was definately patched through to India for that call. I think they speak better english than half of the people in my state.
Because I substituted MS for Intel that makes me retarded? Instead of insulting me and posting as an AC, how about you do something productive that involves a bullet and your brain?
If in 20-40 million years we're still having an energy problem I'll recommend breaking out MegaMaid. Let's make sure she's set to suck (not blow) so we can collect all of this hydrogen to use in our H2 powered vehicles:)
I better get cracking on canning air to sell to the Spaceballs in payment for MegaMaids services.
How is this any different than (insert most media sources here)? If you're jusy waking up to the fact that many "news" sources recieve payouts for favorable reviews, or to be critical of someone elses work, then I'd say you've been living under a rock.
Just because it's Microsoft in this case makes this newsworthy?
underling: Our hardware sales are falling, people are starting to realize they don't need to upgrade!
Toshiba CEO: I've got it, put in one of those Cell processor thingies. Get me Sony on the phone now!
Sony: Hello? Oh yes we've got a giant bin in the back with all of the cell processors that didn't make the grade for our PS3. Oh you'd like to buy some? Excellent! Actually if you'd like we could pull some of the better ones out of the PS3's sitting on the shelves, they're not being used anyways. No? Damn....
Toshiba CEO: We have them now....
I wonder...of all of these unpatched systems, how many were pirated? That was the big stink when MS briefly turned off updates for non-verified Windows installations. Maybe people are afraid to update their pirated MS Office stuff in fear of being caught?
Just playing devils advocate here but what kind of idiot would buy a $500 laptop and then buy Vista Premium @ $400? My father-in-law just bought my wife one of those cheap laptops. 1.6ghz 512mb with Vista Home Basic for right around $600 (came with a bag and a mouse). I told her to return it of course (I already have 2 PC's and a laptop*).
My point is you can't compare Vista Ultimate to your setup. Maybe if you installed Ubuntu 7.10 and turned Compiz up to full settings and enabled a few other visual effects you could.
*for the record the laptop is running Ubuntu Feisty, my 3.0ghz is dual booting ubuntu 7.10 and XP home, and my 2.4ghz is running xp professional. Compiz will not function properly with most animations and there is still no support for my sound card after 2 years. Joe Consumer would have brought back the linux machine and bought a more expensive windows machine, but I'm a glutton for punishment.
I have seen the roads in India, specifically Chennai and Mumbai, and cars like this can improve safety. I saw many little 150cc motorcycles with 3, 4, even 5 people on them tooling around. Many of the bikes with only two people had a woman on the back with a sari, just waiting to get caught in the rear wheel. In fact, one of the accessories for Indian motorcycles is a sari guard, designed just for this purpose. When I went to Goa I saw the same thing. I think it's difficult for most people to imagine 5 people on a 150cc motorcycle, but it was happening the entire time I was there. Couple that with their driving rules(let's just say they don't adhere to the same rules like no pass zones) and you've got a scary situation on your hands. I can't tell you how many times I nearly pissed myself while taking a taxi through a curved road, watching helplessly as the driver barreled head on towards other traffic while passing entire families on motorcycles.
This car is much safer than what I had seen in Goa. It'll be good for India.
Tat sounds like a dream to me. I'm currently paying $80/mo for a 1.5M/s (max) DL and 256 UL. I am now able to get wireless broadband but Wildblue won't let me cancel unless I pay for the remaining 9 months of my contract at the full $80/mo pricetag.. I'm also limited to 17 G/mo. Wildblue satellite service blows goats.
Just to clarify, yes the guts of the "Playstation" were all Sony, but the guts of the "Play Station" (original) were co-developed. There is no way to know how much involvement Nintendo had in the design decisions involving the "Play Station" but given Nintendo's history, we can be reasonably sure that they just didn't hand the reigns to Sony and let them run with it.
Sony didn't really "create" the 3.5in floppy. They really only introduced the form factor. The guts of the floppy were created much earlier by IBM.
They also didn't partner with Philips until 9 years after the prototype CD was created.
Reaching further into the depths you can even find that they didn't even create the Playstation on their own. http://www.nintendowiifanboy.com/2007/06/07/original-nintendo-sony-playstation-prototype-found/
Sony is about as innovative as a rock.
I'm not sure how many other people have done it but I've attempted to game on my rear projection HDTV. It looks like poop. Their refresh rate is based on 60hz which is where they got their.02 refresh rate (1/60hz). I'll pass on this one.
Every time a new set of consoles come out there are the people that predict that it's the end of PC gaming. In this gen, besides the Wii, the consoles have become much more computer like. At the same time our PC's are becoming increasingly "home theater" PC's.
So the real question is, will the next gen system end up being your console + home theater. If MS and Sony had their way, you'd be doing it right now on your 360/PS3.
If the customers paid for something they didn't get, it doesn't matter what was being bought, they have the right to be compensated. While that does make sense, it doesn't hold true for some things. For example, my Wildblue internet service only guarantees that I have "up to a 1.5M/s connection" and that they don't guarantee connectivity. ahref=http://www.wildblue.com/aboutWildblue/qaa.jsprel=url2html-26276http://www.wildblue.com/aboutWildblue/qaa.jsp> There are times when my connection just drops. It's in the contract. I have no recourse as it was explained in the ToS. I'm sure that XBL has a very similar clause that does not ensure connectivity and that you're not entitled to compensation. MS was trying to appease their customers by giving them a free game, they didn't have to do that either, but it would have impacted their subscription rates.
Or humanity makes a decision to allow the glaciers and icecaps to melt, the sea levels rise a bit, some islands and low lying areas get flooded, weather patterns to change a bit *and* spends the money necessary to mitigate the negative effects of these processes.
I think that's the plan right there. Once the water levels rise and all of those pesky islands are out of the way, we can finally implement our massive wave generators!

You, sir, need to stop making so much sense. Don't tell me this sort of thing has actually worked in the past....oh it did? Well I'll be damned! Too bad the labels have their heads so far up their collective asses that this will take years to come to fruition.
Along with the one child per household and the human rights violations that are occuring they've got a huge battle ahead of them. It's gonna be a long road...
On the other hand, the pope does look a bit like Emperor Palpatine, so I'm staying out of this one
http://static.flickr.com/6/9958184_1d3029f0e7_m.jpg/seriously though, if you just set up your power management and use sleep you could achieve the same boot times
This would also make it pretty difficult for "those two" to sneak in to the closet for a nooner.

It's bad journalism to be sure, that is all.
And I wonder how many people are going to know where this came from :P

I'm sorry, I thought we were making bad arguments here. I already have the cure for cancer though. 1. Don't get irradiated 2. Watch what you eat
