How will a non-interactive higher education system help me as a media production major? Each production I work on, even the most basic, one-camera, one-microphone deal, requires three people.

Editing class - we're sitting at computers editing video. Can we do this at home? Some of us, maybe. I don't understand something and perhaps all I have to do is lean over and ask someone for help, or raise my hand and note that I don't get something.

How about the number of people who meet their future husbands and wives in class? My parents, brothers and sisters all met their spouses in class, in the midst of doing something that inherently brought them together.

How funny is it that the smaller the world supposedly gets, the further away we are from each other.

While it's true that the greatest number of these convictions took place during the eighties, more than a third of them happened after, so I still don't buy your original claim that the criminal justice system is near infallible.

And of those post-eighties exonerations - how many were after the actual executions?

That's why we have an appeals process. And every death row convict gets a shitload of 'em. Show me how many people executed after the lengthy number of appeals and stays, etc. only to be exonerated post-execution, and the we can talk about how shitty the criminal justice system is.

The justice system does not just stop at conviction. There's a lot more to it. People appeal and appeal and that's why these convictions are overturned ten years later. Because someone, or something, comes out. Someone else admits to the killings. New evidence pops up. A witness recants.

Sheriff's department tends to be more lax. While your guy was young, many city police retire and then go to work for the sheriff to supplement their pension.

As a result, the general culture of many if not most (the two counties I've lived in, Fresno and Tulare, California, both are like this) of sheriff's departments is of people who have their pension to live off of, are working just to do a bit better, and aren't under any pressure to meet quotas or fudge numbers or make sure their stats look good to the city/state.

Not excusing what city police does, but I have never had a bad experience with the sheriff's department. In high school, you always knew who broke up the parties. Police left utter chaos and kids causing damage in their wake. Sheriffs had a quiet exit. It's because the latter never came in to bust heads. Police, 100% of the time, in both counties and cities, always did.

What you're not getting is that with law, non-criminal law, it doesn't have to be beyond a reasonable doubt. Especially when we're talking about something like this. This isn't even about evidence, but about interpreting law.

When you're doing that, possibility is all that matters.

This sounds to me like producers are worried that their jobs may not be as important as they used to be, and the skill of singer/songrwriters' compotisions and performances will be what makes money.

Maybe I can't hear the little shaker underneath the bass line, but a good song is still a good song regardless of the subtle things you catch. Doesn't mean I don't appreciate the little things when I do have a good sound system and high-quality songs, but having people complain about mp3s sounds to me like so much whining the recording industry does every single day.

If we have to do this, then it should be done right. Every country presents their "wonder" through the United Nations. How the countries decide to do it is up to them. Every ten years, that list of "wonders" is revamped to reflect new national alignments and structures built.

Personally, I'd rather we just leave it alone. But if we're going to change it to reflect the new age, then we should also reflect on the fact that there are a shitload more countries now than in the days of ancient Greece, and each country should be allowed the opportunity to show off at least one thing that they are all proud of.
