If an officer of the law breaks the law then they should be punished by the law. The whole point of the IPCC (Independant Police Complaints Commision) is to work out what the facts are and most of the semi/uninformed speculation is not helping. Deserved/accident/trigger happy cop it doesn't matter. Let the IPCC find out what happened otherwise we're just going on hearsay and rumour. Torching cars and stealing TVs is not the solution. The shooting is just being used as an excuse by the rioters and the unhelpful people encouraging them. The rioters don't give a damn about the guy who was shot they just want to riot and loot. This sort of action will bring out a few more people to riot but the rest of the country will be calling for their heads. The people worst affected by all this are blameless people who made the mistake of owning shops on a high street or renting apartments above shops or similar things. I mean who didn't see that coming? You live on a high street somewhere and then your house gets torched. It's obvious isn't it? People might think twice in the future before making such an obvious mistake again. That's not going to help anybody. People like Ken Livingstone also won't be helping. Taking of advantage of the situation for a bit of inflammatory politics is the action of an inconsiderate jerk (First class Hons. University of Git). Hopefully the people who weren't out there upgrading their home cinemas or using other people's cars to keep warm will recognise this and sort him out next year. Shame about the opportunistic cretins in Birmingham. Hope that gets stamped out.
The only people who are going to benefit from all this are the glaziers.
However if they do delay it then it won't be looked at again in the Commons until after the election when there may be some different MPs who don't support Lord Mandy and his schemes quite to much
Personally, I've always used the hand brake (probably the parking brake you're refering to) to stop the car from rolling back during a hill start. There's no need to use the brake pedal for that.
It's no good. You're going to have to post in all of them just to make sure:)
Just a thought - it's entirely possibly that there isn't an April Fools achievement and the achievement is the/. April Fools.
You don't have to have a TV. No one is forcing you to. You only need a licence if you have a equipment that can receive broadcast TV. You could just watch videos and DVDs like my family does. Also you get their advertisement-free radio channels. The BBC is worth it for Radio 4.
I have a feeling that we still use miles-per-gallon over here. We're not completely metric yet. It's just a slightly bigger gallon. You're right about the dollars bit though.
As I understand it (I ought to know - I'm British - but you know how it is...) We do have a constitution it's just not a fancy all in one document like yours (if you're from the US/Canada/Australia etc...). Ours is all written down but it's spread all over the place and new bits have been added in different places from time to time since Magna Carta so it's a bit trickier to find stuff. You would probably have to read most of the Acts of Parliament to work out exactly what it says.
Of course this could be all wrong - like most legal stuff it's (unfortunately) best to ask a lawyer.
I imagine that the batteries will be like most others - i.e. they can charge to mostly charged as fast as you can supply the power but the last little bit will take forever regardless of the potential power as the current gradually drops until the battery pack is at it's fully charged voltage. Under an hour for a quick charge should be possible if you don't care about the last bit. Fully charging them will only be necessary occasionally to make sure the batteries are properly balanced (although it would be best to fully charge them all the time anyway)
Don't forget all the computers used for industrial control applications - as they get old and die their replacements increase in value to the company as similar systems (with, say, ISA slots) become more rare so they will be willing to pay more in order that they won't have to design, make and test a new system when the old one worked well enough.
You can still run KDE3 applications on KDE. Like with GTK apps you just need the required libraries installed and they'll run. As for Konqueror - it's still there. It still does all of the things it used to so use it instead of Dolphin. It's probably also possible to change Konqueror to be the default file manager.
Agreed. I've been using the unstable builds from OpenSuSE for the last month as I found 4.0 too restrictive and I've just upgraded to 4.1. It's much better than KDE 3.5 and 4.0 and you can still use all of the KDE3.5 goodies such as Amarok and K3b. A few things are missing (little things like changing desktop with scroll wheel on desktop) but I'm sure they'll be implemented soon. Otherwise the only problem is the driver for my 8400GS (and the worry that it may overheat and burst into flames but that's a hardware problem). KDE have done a great job with 4.1 and OpenSuSE have done a good job packaging it.
Someone needs to do some research. As someone has already posted, electric motoors are considerably more efficient than IC engines. They also don't need gearboxes or clutches (max torque at 0 rpm) so more efficiency gains can be achieved by using belt drives. Electric vehicles (under 1 ton[ne]) can get away with 7 to 10 kWh of energy per hour of use. 100kWh would be nice to have but completely unnecessary.
The main things holding electric vehicles back are the batteries. Lead acids are not very good. LiPo (non-exploding lithiums) are expensive and need fancy load balancing electronics which are expensive and don't always work well. Super/Ultra-capacitors have low energy densities, high costs and need fancy electronics to get all the energy out of them.
Also the grid is usually underutilised at night which is also when most people will be plugging their cars in. Alternatively they could charge them from their own personal wind-turbine, water wheel etc... if they wanted.
Slightly off topic. I'm looking for (ideally) a non comercial use licence to use for a hardware project related in some way to electric cars. Any suggestions. Something like the GPL may be acceptable but I would prefer something written with hardware in mind. Thanks.

Here's hoping they never learn.

Yes you can use electric cars there. AC motors with solid state motor controllers and a hermatically sealed contactor shouldn't generate any sparks.

>Fight. IE uses EEE. It has no effect.
Yes it does. It's just scattered all over the place in many documents unlike the US one.
But your productivity would be higher, wouldn't it? ;)
Don't forget that the LHC crosses the border with France so we'd have to lose a bit of France as well [cue crocodile tears]
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I was rather under the impression that Vista is the new ME or are you saying that 7 will also be a ME (perhaps a ME^2 ?)

Blackfriars Station, (plus an extra go as we're playing the DofE's rules).
Hyde Park Corner

Indeed. Solar panels will only be good for keeping the batteries topped up if the car is left in the open for long periods without periodic recharges.

You may have intended to have written Asus instead of Via.
