let me say something about obvious. once you are exposed to something, then it becomes obvious. there are so many scientific results that you take for granted. when people talk about Newton and his famous invention called gravity, i used to think, give me a break, an apple falling down, if he didn't get it, somebody would have. it was so obvious. this was my thought when i was a kid. then i went to college, and i was exposed to Newtonian Mechanics(that was a completely different subject). we should be armed against some trolls, who just patent any thing they could get their hands on, instead of new invention or discovery.

i was in India this april, and took my family out for dinner, the day before i left for US to an upscale restaurant. for a group of 10 people, i paid around 900 Rupees, which came to $19, the same that i spent last night when i went out to eat here in US. It is not right that the quality of life in India is not as good as here. i.e., if you earn in US and spend it in India it is great. but if you earn in India, then that meal we had was a luxury. it is very complicated. the hype about these high paying software jobs is very rampant in India and everybody wants a share of the pie(and i don't blame them). but the problem is sometimes i worry whether Indians is also going the same direction as US. i.e., abandoning the manufacturing sector(which is very vital for a good industrial growth) and giving more importance to the service sector. just like Apple major companies have their high end solutions R&D labs in US, so in reality there is not much value added here. it is sometimes sad that the young engineers are flocking the software industry than the traditional industries. it is about time, we had a reality check

I use linux(debian)as my backend server. i have my good days with both linux and windows. but what it is worth, Gates has lead Microsoft all these years because he is good at what he does. apart from that the money they (him and his wife) spend on humanitarian is awesome. Microsoft followed the business code, dictated by a capitalistic economy, so instead of blaming him and his company, why don't people appreciate for what he had done.

i installed vista beta version over the weekend. it was the first time i had hiccups while installing windows(with debian installs everytime it happens). so the first problem was, i was told to reserve 15 GB for OS and if i had 20 GB, i will be fine. so i partitioned by hard disk 20 + 85, and guess what it complained not enough space and without any warning installed in the 85 GB partition. i ain't no fool to give 85 GB to windows. then i increased the size to 35 GB and reinstalled it. the moral of the story, still a Microsoft product won't listen to the user second the system is so paranoid of any action. first i wanted to install the video card, network card, i get all these warning message that some application is trying to access a device(esp i logged in as administrator). the only way around i found was, log in as a normal user, and open the application as the administrator(it is in the menu), then it will install. the moral of the story, when they talk about security, they mean the paranoia of a secure system.

I'm originally from India and now working in US. Now when you go to India and visit these factories, we can see that the employees have the option of working for this or that company. the salary is competitive when you compare the living cost of that area, and the earning capacity of that person. it is not like they are chained as slaves. when people compare the salaries of two countries they conveniently forget this fact, as their only intention is to slander the object(in this case Apple). if they are so worried, why don't they offer to do the same job for the same cost in UK or US. I don't think they would want that. they would want minimum $10/hour plus health, dental and everything. which will finally increase the cost of manufacture to almost $40/hour, while they can get the job done for almost $1/hour in India or China. and the consumers happily buy the product while blaming the policies of these corporations while they are the ones in the first place who made these shift possible
