Diabetes sufferer Ms Vickers, 59, lost her sight seven years ago and turned to the world of her imagination for solace.

With a love of English poetry ditties were scribbed to entertain her mother over the years but it is only now she is embarking on her first novel.

However, she doesn’t type or use a computer but has a system of elastic bands that guide her to keep lines.

It appears she lost her eyesight later in life and (I'm assuming) had never learned to type before, she might find it easier to write with a pen/paper.

Nice analogy, although sometimes the plumber retires, his son takes over and standards drop... (and so is life)

My 2c on picking a hosting provider (speaking as a freelance web developer with a couple hundred SME websites I manage hosting for) is:

Don't place a lot of trust/money with a company you've never used, i.e If you're looking to get a virtual/dedicated server from a new company start off by hosting one website/domain with them and see how you are treated, how they come across, quality of support etc...

As you interact with the company pay attention to how you are dealt with, it can be small things, the 'personal touch', e.g I recently ordered a VM and received an automated email saying it might take up to 24hrs before it was ready but "please reply to this message if you have any questions", not a no-reply address, I was impressed!

More importantly, when I did ask a question, I got a sensible reply within a couple of hours and my VM was ready in a total of 8hrs.

  8. Re:DIY VS. Time on Ask Slashdot: Is a Home Drone Feasible? · · Score: 1

I don't think autonomous is the best solution here. If you want to get useful footage of iced up waterfalls or to study the state of a glacier you'll want to adjust the flight path manually (as you don't know what's worth looking at until you get there).

I'd suggest an RC motor/sailplane with a video hook-up. Aircraft like these have covered 90+ mile round trips climbing up to 9,000ft and easily have a 'distance from control' range of 15 miles (although in the UK there are legal issues further than 2 miles).

The video bandwidth is pretty low so you'd want to save the video data onboard for later review.

Depends on the albedo value of the farm land, freshly ploughed fields are usually great for thermal development though. The darker the surface the more heat it absorbs.

However, damp soil releases its heat much more slowly and won't be so good for strong thermals although they might last a little longer into the evening.

CBP's specifications also require the manufacturer to "perform an evaluation of the potential effect of radiation exposure on public safety on the proposed system." In addition, a CBP representative told CNET that the machines are currently only used in secondary inspections (most people go through just the primary inspection).

I think, as a good will gesture, the Director/CEO of the TSA and his family should undergo 2,500 scans a year.
