To be fair I bought a PS3 in August by October my Blu-Ray drive was stuffed and I just got it back last week, and my Wii has a tendancy to freeze when I switch from the Mii channel to the Disc channel

Fun fact: those Microsoft keyboards, mice etc are (or at least used to be) outsourced to Logitech, which IMO is a good move as they seem to make good products.

Exactly, mobile phone gaming was very cheap and flimsy until very recently, now we are seeing phones that can churn out some ok visuals.

Last gen you had the PS2 alone rack up over 140 Million units, then the Gamecube and Xbox racking about 24 Million each plus Gameboy Advance.

The N-Gage had alot of potential but was held back by design issues like taco looking side talking, game slot underneath the battery and screen taller than it was wide. Otherwise if you had a phone more like shaped more like GameBoy Micro with a retractable numeric keypad you would have a winner.

The iPhone has a real chance to succeed where the N-Gage failed, but it hasn't succeeded yet.

In that sense, Linux companies have been a relative failure.

I wouldn't go that far, even if that was the case a good number of distro's are community ones anyway (Fedora, Ubuntu, openSUSE). But its not even really the case, Red Hat profits quite well and Novell becomming a Linux company has essensially brought them back from the brink of extinction.

Sure none are pushing out profit margins the likes of a Microsoft of a Google but Red Hat investors are getting returns on their investments and Novell investers are much better off than they were 5 years ago so I wouldnt call them failures.

Yes I know this is a twitter shill but I just want to make some points

I for one have found Silverlight (actually Moonlight) to run better on my Linux/Firefox PC than Flash IMO. At least you can build it from source and make it run 64-bit natively

Riddle me this twitter, when is Adobe going to make a 64-bit Linux flash?... or when will Adobe help out the Gnash project?

Anyways Silverlight is more of a moot point, if they want it running on the iPhone and Safari you are just going to have to write good AJAX and Microsoft knows this.

In web services Microsoft knows it cant afford to lock out people that uses its competitions platforms as IE doesn't really have a stranglehold on the market anymore, I am not talking about Linux as much as I am talking about the iPhone, Firefox and other markets that they could open their products to that have web browsers like the Wii and PS3.

Despite it may be likely they have some sort of evil intentions but the most likely scenario is they have a revenue model around this and want as many customers as possible. When you have a product you want people to use and/or purchase it.

I myself may never use it (Google Docs/OpenOffice works great for me) but I am glad its there, it shows that Microsoft is acknowleging there is compeition which is a major step forward than where they were a decade ago.

IBM on board is indeed a big shot in the arm, however not as big a shot as say if Cisco threw its weight behind it. It would be nice to see the major network guys get into this, and not just Cisco but also NetGear, D-Link etc

I would like to see that happen in Australia too. Telstra have had too much of a monopoly on infastructure for too long and they always leave out rural areas. Sure they have their new 3G network but they overcharge to the point people working in small towns (who dont make as much money as city folk) cant afford it.

No, I already have all 3 consoles. I'll be getting it on 360 no doubt considering my PS3 is god knows where getting fixed (faulty blu ray drive 1 week before LittleBigPlanet's release!)

I think people that haven't bought consoles yet are either a) still deciding or b) waiting for another price drop. In Australia the PS3 is still $700, 360 Arcade just hit $300 while Elite $550. Usually in Australia console sales dont tend to really spike until they hit the $300 mark (Wii being the exception at $388 since launch).

When it comes to option a) I dont think multiplatform hits like GTAIV, Fallout 3 etc factor in as they are on both consoles. Most people dont even know 360 version of GTAIV or PS3 version of Mirror's Edge will have DLC etc as they dont read sites like IGN or Gamespot.

They usually go down to the exclusives which until this year Microsoft had a distinct advantage in Gears, Halo 3, Mass Effect and Bioshock while the PS3 had Uncharted, Resistance and Ractchet & Clank

This year its different: PS3 got MSG4, LittleBigPlanet and Resistance 2 on the way and took Bioshock out of the 360 exclusive hand. While the 360 added to their exclusive list Gears 2, Fable 2. Despite the PS3 having more exclusives this year, overall in the cycle it is starting to even out.

So far Xbox Live trumps PSN but it will be interesting when we see the new experiences match up like the new Xbox Live Experience vs Home

If he was moving from IBM to Sun or from nVidia to AMD/ATi I would understand that. Please correct me if I am wrong but they are only just in the same business

IBM mostly focus on professional services and stuff that goes in the server room (servers, mainframes, storage etc) while Apple focus mostly on desktops, laptops and digital music. Both companies IMO make great products and provide good services but are mostly in two completly different markets.

In my line of work (UNIX servers) I would work with IBM and never really talk to Apple, yet when my brother calls and asks what is a good desktop for stuff like CAD and Photoshop for his uni work I point him to the Mac

IBM sold off its laptop and desktop business to Lenovo years ago so they are not really competing anymore. How is a no compete clause valid if the 2 companies are not really competing?

Eventually we just went made do with Exchange, for push email in Exchange/Outlook mobile, that can be done (I dont know about Groupwise) and we were already paying for exchange to begin with. We just felt that was good enough so we phased out Blackberry and got everyone O2's, this was about 05 when smartphones were just starting to come out in the mainstream so the end users loved it (except the first model O2 XDA Atom's caused headaches) If you are paranoid with IT security and/or are a Notes shop I can see your point but for 90% of the market I would consider an Exchange shop to be "good enough".
