Why we need Ubuntu on laptop. I have a desktop running FC5 smoothely. I have a HP DV2000 Laptop which came with Windows XP Media Center edition and it worked perfectly, I had CA eTrust and not a single virus till date. Then suddenly I decided to install ubuntu on my spare partition, and damn all hell broke loose. It was of NO Use. Ubuntu is of no use on a laptop. It just sucks. and GRUB sucks like hell. I reformatted everything and my laptop has decent Windows XP Media Center. Let the linux rule servers bcoz thats where it belongs. I am using Linux (RedHat) for last 11 years and let me say that Linux can never become mainstream desktop OS. And there is only one linux I trust RED HAT.

    Indians are smart people.

Indians are facing terrorism for last 20 years and they are doing what they should be doing. They are avoiding spread of hate via these type of forums. Whats wrong in that?

I think avoiding riots and hate is better than allowing riots to happen or hate to spread.

If you are a full time java developer then why are you comparing RoR with J2EE. RoR is a framework for making web applications THATS IT. What is so big deal about that? J2EE is a reference architecture and you can make N number of web framework based on that, only you imagination is your limit. As a J2EE guy for last 6 years I have architected, designed and developed many applications of varying complexity and I can not design a single application of that type based on RoR. RoR is a tool for specific purpose like Python or PHP. Choose whatever suits your purpose and develop. What is so great about any specific tool/framework?

  22. Re:Fad on Ruby For Rails · · Score: 1

Absolutely true. I do not see it adaption in enterprise computing in near future. I am working on J2EE for last 5 years, and can comfortably say that this is the most suitable technology for enterprise application. The reason is that prior to J2EE we really used to do some very expensive stuff to develop distributed enterprise application like banking, trading, credit cards. J2EE has its short comings but atleast it delivers a pretty goot reference architecture. The same can be said about .NET. The only problem with .NET is its marriage with Windows. If MS can open it then it will shoot like anything. Rest like RoR, Python, Perl are good for specific purposes but not comparable to reference arhitectures like J2EE or .NET.
