Flash has been riddled with security holes since it came into use. Since it is not based on any kind of standards whatsoever, no one can really review it for compliance. It's been a broken technology since its inception.
The problem is still that we have to extract oil from the ground which is an energy intensive process and can end up damaging the environment. The answer is to use renewable resources and there is only a finite amount of oil and the large deposits of oil exist in politically unstable areas. Moving away from ICEs isn't just about air pollution, it's about the destruction of ecology and there are significant social and political ramifications. Furthermore, let's look at the caustic chemicals needed to run an ICE. You need coolant or propylene glycol. This stuff is a poison. ICEs that are not maintained properly can leak coolant. I wonder if Mazda is being influenced by world-wide oil interests. Does Mazdas open CEO actually believe that there won't be any critical thinkers to refute his claim?
As a long user of LibreOffice, I am excited to try this one out. It's been fantastic for me but I don't use it in a corporate setting so I cannot speak for that. For the home and small business user, Libre is perfect.
Let the "for profit" blood suckers get rocked on their heels a little. After all of the reasons that they have found to deny people care that need it, fuck those big boys.
I don't care about Chinese and Russian spying or potential spying anymore. Our country has a whole lot more problems than that. We cannot even take care of our most vulnerable citizens and we have the highest incarceration rate in the western world. At this point it's just a distraction from domestic problems.
Maybe the hackers will have the robots dropping the food on the floor. That would sure be a sight to see! Imagine how angry the customers would get when the robots do an oops and a delicious burger or steak lies waste to the posh carpeting.
The geek side of me wants to smile in delight until I realize that this has cost someone their job and livelihood. Suddenly, this is not so great anymore.
I'll bet it was the Republicans that brought the shit in under the guise of profits over people. I'll bet it was the Republicans that helped to get in to help their wealthy campaign contributers.
I think I am actually fine with it. Given the abuses of Verizon and AT&T, I am fine with a nationalized 5G network. CAVEAT: As long as there are no laws forcing encryption to have backdoors.
I guess that's easy for a billionaire to say. Someone who lives paycheck to paycheck, like myself, disagrees wholeheartedly. If Billy Gates is feeling generous, why doesn't he help out main street America?
The authorities here on Slashdot have repeatedly said that right now was the golden age of BSD due to Debian's adoption systemd. There are no Linux users left. BSD is the only system that remains in widespread use.
I noticed this too. Also, I am not concerned about the low hanging fruit when it comes to security. The reality is that humans are error prone so there is no way to make a system that is 100% secure. Theo de Raadt has to prioritize things and really spend the lion's share of his team's time on the serious stuff that can result in intrusion and privilege escalation. OpenBSD's security record stands... "Only two remote holes in the default install, in a heck of a long time!" I don't think any Linux distribution can make that statement.
"Some" researchers are saying the BSDs are dying so it must be true, huh? "Read it on the internet, hot damn, must be true then." Bullshit! The BSDs have a large community that is passionate about their choice of operating system. I have been using OpenBSD since 1998 and I will only stop using it once the community completely collapses, development ceases, and the foundation folds. The day that happens, I will have to find another hobby altogether and just keep a smartphone and tablet handy. Learning and using OpenBSD has made me far more knowledgeable about computers, operating systems, networks, and security than any other platform out there. If it weren't for my college roommate introducing me to OpenBSD, I believe I would just be another Microsoft wanker. OpenBSD taught me how the internet works and opened a wealth of knowledge. OpenBSD turned me from a computer power user into a true System Administrator. Ever since that day when I asked my roommate just what the heck OpenBSD was, my life would never be the same.
Normally I am not all about passing all kinds of additional laws, but we should have the right to repair our own devices, especially if we are capable of doing it. Apple is not the only bad guy here. I can name ZTE, LG, and Samsung as also guilty of this.
Admittedly, I enjoyed the commercial and it did do a good job watering down the issue for the absolute layman. However, the issue is not that simple. It's not only about the lack of net neutrality creating paid high speed lanes, it's also harming consumers who might not want to watch Comcast Xfinity content but are more interested in Netflix. Furthermore, without some kind of neutrality, what is to prevent the ISPs from charging a base price simply for web browsing at say 39.95 and charging extra to have social media, streaming, or other kinds of service unlocked.
We've got problems with income inequality, homelessness, and an opioid epidemic in this country and our elected officials are concerned about fucking loot boxes. No wonder the US is going downhill steeply.
Stupidity is absolutely everywhere. Yes, let's just give away the keys to the castle. Maybe the US Government will start building its own systems instead of relying on shitty vendors like Oracle or SAP. Systems that have great need for secrecy should be custom developed in house.
It's because the kid acts like an arrogant rich twit who can't look away from his screen for three seconds to have a decent conversation with someone. He looks like a poster-boy for smartphone (or tablet in this case) addiction.
Is the kid in the commercial a girl or boy? These days it could go either way.
Another annoying ad is the Geico ad where the gecko is hosting a meeting in a conference room, and a call-in attendee is speaking at the same time he is. It's annoying when it happens in real life - We don't need to see it in a commercial.
That one is every bit as annoying as the iPad Pro commercial. It makes me think of Dilbert cartoons depicting meetings.
I think it is the music that makes the ad so obnoxious. The music is just terrible and repeats that same old stupid refrain, "Where is it you want to go?" It is a song that I would expect to appear on Idiocracy. The entire ad just does not make me want to go and get an ipad.
They have at least given them brand new batteries!

Their intentions aren't so honorable. They're just trying to break up the demand for real universal health care.
Just curious, how do you figure? Of course their intentions are anything less than honorable. They're trying to boost their own bottom lines.

Trump is making plans to fire Ajit Pai. Everyone say goodbye to Pai.

No, Android is not at fault. The fact that the phone is made by a Chinese company is the problem.
I guess that's easy for a billionaire to say. Someone who lives paycheck to paycheck, like myself, disagrees wholeheartedly. If Billy Gates is feeling generous, why doesn't he help out main street America?
Facebook should just die! It should go the fuck away!
Someone has their history all screwed up. It was also written by an AC so it's automatically suspect.
