This makes a good argument for using open source. Removing a secret rootkit is a lot easier when the underlying layers of the operating system aren't obscured. I'll be this goes nowhere. Either that or proprietary OS vendors suffer sales losses as people flock to Linux and *BSD
Will the temperature drop from having that many volcanoes erupt simultaneously?
I asked myself the same thing since historically large eruptions were followed by global cooling. However, we have an interesting new variable: the axis of the earth has changed significantly since the earthquake off of the Japanese coast in 2011. I vaguely remember an article that the earth's access shifted a fraction of a degree. I guess we shall have to see how this plays out.
....please give this gentleman a real, non-soul sucking, non-phone job.
The kid that was kicked out of school for finding the security issue was given an internship and a scholarship to help get him back on track when he was the victim of administrative idiocy. I hope someone with some power to help can do the same here.
The only non-soul sucking job is to be running your own business and not depending upon a supervisor or manager for your livelihood.
You have to smile while you're on the phone (uhm really?), follow the cubicle dress code (but I just answer the phone), not allowed to hang up on abusive customers no matter what they do. The week's vacation you earned and got approved 3 months in advance was just re-allocated as forced time off due to the business being slow. World's worst health insurance if you get any at all.
Fluorescent lighting from hell, vending machines for lunch, 19" square monitors from the 1980's, computers running Windows XP, no service pack.
It is just as galling when the company's communist propaganda machine (aka HR) calls these benefits, "excellent and competitive."
We live this job every day.
Everyone knows the hacking threat is made up by the US government, as I am continually reminded every time I try to talk about it.
No, it's not bullshit. I don't know how you draw that conclusion. I look at my family business' firewall logs and see lots of intrusion attempts coming from Chinese IP addresses. It got so bad that I moved the company's website to a VPS and moved our mail server to a cloud-based solution. Now, we just block all foreign IP addresses at the firewall by default.
Not me! I left the US behind almost 6 years ago. In the meantime, I've had a full year of paid holiday (6 years x 35 days/year holiday + 10 days/year of federal days off.)
My gross salary is even higher, but the net salary lower with the 50% deductions.
No desire to go back. The lack of unlocked phones and reasonable prepaid plans it just one recent example of you guys taking it in pooper.
America has always been about sweatshop workplaces. We need more unions, not less but styled after a European one. Heaven forfend should we offer an real perks to our employees. Why, perish the thought, we might be seen as socialists! Hopefully you've concluded that my statement is dripping with sarcasm. No wonder America ranks lower than its industrial counterparts in lifespan, health, and education.
So a future crop of IT professionals will be well versed on Microsoft products instead of open source, standardized technologies. I hate it when corporations try and play educators.
Is an MVNO of Verizon that will work with the phone you already have. How does 39.95 a month for unlimited talk and text or 29.95 a month for 1200 minutes and 3000 texts sound?
Antigua has the stones to violate an extremely poor law! They've got my support in spirit. As long as I'm on US soil though, I won't risk my freedom by buying from the store.
Mod the parent up as insightful! This definitely not the USA but a bunch of corporate interests that have bought and paid for their own personal senator and/or congressman to have laws created, or policies enacted, in their favor. Instead of the dog wagging its tail, we have the tail wagging the dog.
It would seem that - with isolated exceptions - having wealth is a get out of responsibility free card. Society generally is more forgiving of the transgressions of the wealthy than of the working class. I wonder why this is because these transgressions can be just as serious yet we more readily forgive them. Look at past political figures and scandal: they often make comebacks. It is difficult for the working class person to make any kind of comeback after scandal. It is an interesting double standard.
It's about high time that we have bipartisan support for energy independence. It's time for both political parties to pull their thumbs out of their collective arses and get it done!
To be honest, I'm not really surprised that Derek Khanna lost his job. Some rather large GOP supporters are rather pro copyright law and staunchly so. You can no longer pin down the goals and objectives of either pary because they both do the opposite of what they preach, or worse, don't follow through at all.
is that there appears to be little or no effort by the Chinese government at stopping piracy of software. Sure, on occasion you here about Chinese authorities making busts but my guess is these are mostly politically motivated. The Chinese are known for acts of piracy and disregard for copyright law.
Then I just won't work for an employer that bans the use of smartphones. I can understand not allowing personal devices to connect to a corporate desktop. As long as the device is never attached to a corporate network, then there is no cause to ban this. Sounds to me like employers are concerned that smartphones are cutting into productivity but it is easier to pass HR muster if you call it a "security threat."
Your credentials are impressive and if you take advantage of free business training available through SCORE you could make something happen. I've finally had it with changing jobs every three years to get ahead. I signed up for a SCORE mentoring session and spoke with a mentor who had some unbelievably great ideas. He even related a story about a 70 year old woman who was laid off from her medical billing job only to become businesswoman of the year 8 months later. To me, that was inspirational. So, I'm in the process of starting a managed IT services firm to specialize in 25-75 user businesses. I have about 7,500.00 in startup capital and until I'm fully ready to incorporate, I'll continue in my present job. I'm only maybe three weeks into the planning and the process is fun and exciting. It is also amazing what tools there are out there on the internet to help you start a business. In some ways it is even easier than it ever was.
Given the general anathema towards privacy expressed by Facebook corporate leadership, there is no way I would use a service such as this. Will Facebook deliver targeted ads based on listening to phone conversations? Fuck that! This could be a way for law enforcement to circumvent whatever weak eavesdropping protections still exist.
Ah if only it were that simple. Americans consume excess out of status envy, depression, inferiority-complex... you name it. They don't call it retail therapy for nothing. The subliminal messages in the ads try to make you feel inferior or backward if you don't buy the latest and greatest gadget. Ignore the ads, work on your self-esteem in positive ways, and gain a sense of independence.
This is a nationwide problem and thus not unique to NYC. I live in the DC area and device theft is so much of a problem that DC Metro Transit Police have warnings posted everywhere as well as pretty good prevention tips.
The airlines oppose honest business practices. This seems to be why they are opposed to making it easier for the consumer to make an informed decision. If they are so opposed to honest business practices, it is all the more reason to pass regulation.
I know I'm trolling a bit by making this statement but I actually feel strongly about it. I'm sick of hearing about China this and China that. China does not play by a fair set of economic, safety, and environmental rules. I have a hard time lauding any Chinese progress. They artificially manipulate their currency and sell goods at below market value which hinders the world's economy. I wonde how safe this train really is!

I'm not surprised at all. Capitalism at its very best! Pffft! I hate Big Telecom!
I tried it for myself with Google Chrome and Firefox and File:/// does crash the software. Very interesting!

Okay, I'm going to say it. Soot is thick particulate matter so I'm not surprised ....
