  3. Re:Freedom to take pictures in public spaces on Photographers Face Ejection Over Lenses · · Score: 5, Informative

Um, no, it's not. That's just one of those things that everyone THINKS is illegal, including cops etc. Airports, at least the big ones, are public property, and as such it is explicitly NOT illegal to take photographs in them, because even if a law saying otherwise was passed tomorrow, it would absolutely fail on the basis of unconstitutionality.

What IS illegal is taking photographs of essentially anything in order to commit a crime of any sort. In fact, there are very few things that one can do to plan a crime that isn't illegal because we have laws against conspiring to commit a crime. If the security guard legitimately believes you are planning a crime, he is welcome to file a police report so that it can be properly investigated. After the 8th or 9th time the cops have to deal with nothing reports, they'll probably just tell him to chill.

Remember, if you actually aren't breaking any laws, it is your civic duty to require all government agents to comply with the laws they are supposed to uphold. If cops are stopping every car on a stretch of road and requesting to search cars, make them get a signed warrant from a sitting judge before they get so much as a glance at the glove compartment. The authorities violate our rights for just two reasons, the first is that they think they can, and the second is that the people giving the orders don't realize how much work it would be if they actually had to do their jobs. Make every cop get a warrant for every search, and I guarantee you'll see a lot less searches (which is the whole point, in case anybody missed it).

As a matter of fact... I have a dual-boot XP64/Ubuntu machine, and the Ubuntu installation was easier by far. It asked fewer questions, took less time, and actually did a bunch of relatively complicated things all by itself without me having to fix them at all (which pleasantly surprised me when I, for example, double checked that it wasn't trying to eat my Windows partition). Installing XP actually requires having at least some vague notion of what you're doing, but I could have simply clicked "Next" through the Ubuntu installer and gotten the exact same result. So yes, I'd be willing to make that argument.

"1) Unique -- Uh, how about the user interface? One can be nit-picky about anything not being "unique." For example, there is nothing unique or original between a Ford and a Mercedes vehicle, I mean they both have wheels, seats, and use gas right? (sarcasm in case you miss it)."

Having driven cars made by both Ford and Mercedes, I assure you that their controls are essentially the same. The Mercedes' might look a little nicer, and it might have a few minor bells and whistles, but it would take an insanely poor driver to feel lost in a Ford having only driven Mercedes. in fact, I'd argue that almost all that separates them is what's under the hood and how much money was spent to make it pretty. The point is, there's nothing nit-picky about saying that the iPhone's UI is not functionally unique, you're just pretending it is because otherwise the iPhone is overpriced crap (see where this is going yet?).

"2) Battery -- Well, your usage is different. I have never ever purchased a second battery for a cell phone in all the years I have owned a cell phone. Your experience obviously is different. Oh, you do realize you can buy a replacement battery from Apple right?"

I've from all sorts of sources that the iPhone's battery is shit, My room mate loves his, but even he complains that the battery dies far too quickly. as for ordering a new battery... I've handled a couple, and I have no idea how or where one would get access to the battery. what good is ordering a battery from Apple if you still need to pay them to install it, and possibly lose access to it for a few weeks as well?

"3) Palm OS does all the same things -- Are you kidding me? That OS is CRAP, wait that would give crap a bad name it's so shitty. If people wanted to use something designed in 1995 have fun. You have got to be kidding trying to compare Palm OS to any of the modern cell OS systems."

Did I fall asleep and Palm stopped being an active company? Have they really not changed their software since '95? i'll admit that i haven't touched anything Palm in a while, but if what I remember was made 13 years ago, I'm actually quite impressed... i didn't realize some of that stuff was possible on ANYTHING in '95.

"Oh, and I don't own an iPhone. Your comments just were too ridiculous to ignore."

Not really, he's just saying that the only thing special about the iPhone is, well, the "i"... which is pretty much true.

Of course, I use AIM very little 9and SMS even less), because I prefer to just call people, so perhaps I'm just out of the loop on this one.
