But the question is: is it a "necessary measure" for ISPs to censer communications based on that database, when it's the police that should have it in the first place?
It's PIRACY that's causing it, didn't you hear them one of those bazillion times they said it? It's never a problem brought on by something else!!!!...dot dot dot...
Rights!? RIGHTS!? What about the rights of that LITTLE GIRL?
What about her rights, hmm? If everything was as the police want it - when she grows up she will certainly have lost more rights then if they were stopped.
They do? Where in the last 400 years has any nation really had ether, or even really attempted to have ether? No real attempts have been made, so it can't be said if ether is a "utopia".
"I think there should be restrictions on that the same way that a 15 year old cannot get into a rated R movie without a guardian, or into a NC-17 movie at all."
So, in other words, the line must be drawn somewhere else. That sadly doesn't work. Slowly over time, that level will be lowered, things will be added to the classifications of an M game and so on.
What do we need? A totally un-padded, un-nerfed world, where kids and parents LEARN TO DEAL WITH IT. So long as there is a bar, that bar will be lowed until you are suck under it.
I agree, but you are basically saying all game companies and players should pay the cost of a few mega-companies like EA. WE didn't make this bed, but we are being forced to lie in it.
North Korea? I'd be surprised if North Korea could conquer South Korea, let alone worry about the world. I think China is the only one you listed that would think about taking over the world, and frankly, I think that chance is smaller then that of the US taking over the world. Who exactly has China attacked in the last 5 years? Who has the US attacked?
You also seem to forget the whole EU. The US isn't the only sane nation on earth as you seem to be suggesting, in fact I would argue it's not even one.

But Apple IS a major problem. They have a totally (maybe not so anymore.... meh) locked system full of DRM, they control most of the mobile music industry and they are not afraid to flex their proprietary-system muscles.
If everyone was to buy a mac today, we would instantly be in the "Microsoft worst case scenario" as far as DRM and system control goes. Not that Apple is far from that as things stand, but anyone that cares about it doesn't use a mac.
No, not a virus, but a political bate and switch; give the people a way to use DRM that "benefits them" so they cozy up to it as an idea to control media standards. As soon as that happens, profit, for you now control major media formats, ship all CDs with DRM and probably rootkits, too.
Nope, there is always something else. How about humming that tune? Hmm? Hmm? You know that's costing them 5^22453536.1$ every year. Evil hummers... that's OUR tune!
I think you mean for propaganda purposes.

And about as good as ammo as those "ex-soviet" (made in china) nukes you buy in one click on Amazon!
Liberate technology and it will liberate others.
Yeah, it is better having a window but it gets awful hot... :P

just like not all computer geeks are virgins living in their parents' basement Exactly. I am living in the attic.
Some do.... most are too stoned (and not on pot, those people are still reasonable) to even care, though. The ones that are not like it very much.

Lie, cheat, steal... then give A LITTLE back, and you are a humanitarian? I guess the Nobel Prize goes to Bush, then.

I nominate redshirts and black pants.
...So we don't help spreed corporate propaganda. Guess that makes us evil. Meh. I am fine with being evil if this is what it takes. >:}
You miss the whole point. Who are they replaced with? Another telco backed tyrant?
No, f00l, we throw the promos at THEM!
