I was thinking the same thing when I heard this on the radio. You'd think people around here would have learned from that. I mean, it was a BIG deal at the time.
I've posted this before on another clone of this discussion but here it goes:
From www.zerodayinitiative.com
The Zero Day Initiative (ZDI), founded by TippingPoint, a division of 3Com, represents a best-of-breed model for rewarding security researchers for responsibly disclosing discovered vulnerabilities. The program's goal is threefold:
reward independent security research
promote and ensure the responsible disclosure of vulnerabilities
provide 3Com's TippingPoint division customers with the world's best security protection
It looks to me like a good idea... Granted, 3com makes a lot of money in the process, but sometimes its worth a price.
I like Backup Exec as well.
Setting up job policy templates is very scalable, so while it may seem overkill for backing up one server, adding 2-100 servers is very easy, not only to set up, but to maintain.
It has pretty good media management, including customizeable "vaults" (say, if you send your tapes offsite every once in a while).
It can produce numerous reports, giving you an idea of how its doing, or what it might run into in the future.
Also, its not terribly expensive for being an enterprise class product. Their support has been well worth it as well.
Restoring is a breeze, especially if you have an autoloader. (10min if the tape is in the changer somewhere).
That's not necessarily a bad thing! If everyone likes Wii sports so much, that the good games get ported/made for it, then I dont see a downside. It can only help the wiivolution of consoles in the long run (at least in an optimistic view).
We could always start bundling new iPods with the 2001 theme.
Personally I dont think there has been much good publicity about space travel lately (except maybe Richard Branson's efforts). Space, while still vastly unknown, isnt nearly as mysterious as it once was. To an astronomer or a scientist, it may be many times more mind boggling knowing what we know, however the sex appeal of space has sort of worn off. Its not the final frontier it used to be.
The best way to protect against it right now is to open windows explorer and click on the tools menu, then folder options
Click on the file types tab, and scroll down to "ASX". Either delete it (Windows will no longer know what to do with ASX files - BE CAREFUL! -, or change to another program.
For me, winamp has always handled as much of windows media player file types as possble.
How does that represent a risk? Well, with a reasonably carefully designed network with internal firewalls as well as perimeter ones - probably not a great deal. (Bear in mind that 95% of organisations don't worry that much about internal threats, despite evidence to suggest that they should).
You can only segment your network so much. At a certain point, spyware on one computer can be damaging in a security "critical" environment. (Obviously if security were the most important thing, the device would not be networked.)
Companies are now turning towards IPS systems (like 3com's TippingPoint IPS) to detect and handle internal threats.
With all the news about data theft, and employees losing laptops with sensitive data, I think its the duty of the company to ensure that data is well protected on an individual level, dont you?
Did anyone else notice the 360 controller?
Are we going to be able to buy Project Gotham: Your Neighborhood?
Or is this just part of Microsoft's plan to merge PC and console?
Have you checked out the Zero Day Initiative?

Point aside, I'd hope they come up with a better brand name than SuperCrapola.
Something just doesnt ring right. I dunno, maybe too many syllables? I'm not a marketing guru.

My vote goes to Tiger Woods PGA Tour Golf for the 360. TW06 and TW07 both have their differences, both good and bad, but I couldnt put them down!

Ok, but how do you sue after you collect underpants?
We're almost there!
Heh... We just have to hope they uphold the second directive well, right?

...and wear sunscreen!
That's what they get for downsizing the HR department first!
