Dude, of course slackware is better than debian or redhat! I mean, slackware is already at 8.1 whereas debian is still 3.0 and redhat is still stuck at 7.3. Isn't it obvious from the version numbers that debian is stuck in the ice ages and slackware is newest and greatest thing currently available?

nothing. If I told you what was the minority, I would be giving away the movie plot...
you can do better with a program called ffmpeg (http://ffmpeg.sourceforge.net) which will compress any stream to a variety of formats including DiVX4, DiVX3 (msmpeg4), mpeg, avi, realmedia... It's only alpha quality but it works well for me. I use it to record home videos.
Wow those themes that won look pretty dull. Especially the third prize winner. Seems like I coulda done that in 30 minutes max. A little gradient in the back with colored buttons and some super simple textures? Even the first prize winner didn't have anything interesting to look at.

ESO is developing a concept of ground-based, 100-m class optical telescope (which we have christened OWL for its keen night vision and for OverWhelmingly Large), with segmented primary and secondary mirrors, integrated active optics and multi-conjugate adaptive optics capabilities. The idea of a 100-m class telescope originated in 1997, when it was assessed that true progress in science performance after HST and the 8-10-m class Keck and VLT generations would require an order of magnitude increase in aperture size (a similar assessment had been made by Matt Mountain in 19961). The challenge and the science potential seemed formidable -and highly stimulating.
Actually, quake as a configuration tool is actually a pretty good idea. Even using 'make menuconfig' we still have to read the options before selecting it. If we can represent options as certain "baddies", we'll get accustomed to the enemies and will remember the options much better. Everytime I play quake, I always remember where the next "baddie" will turn up. Perhaps this is the next best way to actually configure your options.... as long as you don't become trigger happy and get carried away.
When I hear Nortel Networks, it doesn't remind me of a small VC startup... And they've layed off almost 30,000 this year. What small startup has that many employees?
I forget to mention, Linux on the iPAQ already supports a large number of devices... I'm pretty sure soon enough you should be able to add a SCSI external hard drive to the ipaq (via the pcmcia sleeve) and load your mp3s from there too... By default, the intimate distributions uses usbnet so you can use a simple usb connection to your host pc (or laptop in my case) for a network connect. (I think some 2.4.4 ac patch has the usbnet module)
There is a very nice iPAQ distribution called intimate which is semi-based off of the Debian distribution (yes you can even add the debian-arm source to it's sources.list file). This "intimate" distribution can be operated off a microdrive (or nfs-root using wireless which I'm doing). Check out this page for some screen-shots. At the bottom you'll see that this is a great candidate for mpeg playing. At my university, I use the wireless network for my ipaq to stream mp3s using a distribution mounted remotely using nfs!
Just upgrade your distro to testing or unstable. Unless you're using your computer for something that requires complete stability, it's probably worth upgrading to testing/unstable releases of debian.
It's 250, not 250k

actually it's two raised to the power of 46, multiplied by 2048.

maybe you should try being an experienced speller first...
2.5 FPS == 4/10 of a second per frame
You are wrong. See here: http://www.eso.org/projects/owl/publications/2000_ 05_Messenger.htm

I friend of mine wrote some cheapy macro scripts in Win9x to beat some basketball shooting game to win himself a Dreamcast.
I spent about 30 minutes on this page...

Does the translator fit in my ear and feed the information directly to my brain?
And that would be bad because?
...because your average Windows user could be your mom.
Another problem is, the pen can be twisted while in the middle of the silo causing it to be "stuck" in the silo. Yet another problem not yet resolved.

AGREED.

I'm sorry, but you sound exactly like the Dilbert manager...

a test/install/H3600/install.html. Do what it says, then use ipkg to install the package "intimateboot". Finally, take a look at this page: http://ipaq.secret.org.uk/intimate/install.html. The current base is at about 200 megs uncompressed. There should be a new version coming out in the next few days with a smaller base, but a much more dpkg-conforming installation process!
Instructions for loading Linux on the iPAQ can be found here: http://familiar.handhelds.org/familiar/releases/l

1: Apple's G4 can be ordered with a "Superdrive" that will do CD-Rom, CD-WR, DVD-Rom, DVD-R.
so what? My Mac LCII already has a superdrive!
