The last 3 places I worked at had strict policy that normal users do not work with admin privileges and most had separate accounts set up for those who did need it to use RunAs for. The problem in this case that you mention is not MS but not strict enough security policies at the site stating users not being able to get admin access to their local machine.
onsider dumping Windows altogether and switching to Apple's Macintosh
You betcha... when it runs on an AMD processor. I would love to, but since Apple refuses to look at other hardware than what they have on their machines it isn't going to happen.
That may be true but it still doesn't mean that Microsoft is copying Apple.
I wonder if the reason MS is backporting everything that was supposed to be in Longhorn is that the technologies will be old school by the time it comes out for other OS, so they want to leverage it sooner.
Plus Office doesn't have annoyances like popups that is driving people to Firefox. Well I guess you could include Clippy but at least he behaves once you shut him off.
I think you should include Access in the list. There is a plethitude of small database manufacturers that throw out a specialized product that is geared to small offices based on Access. I have seen one at a law firm called Paatsy that was used for tracking Patents and Trademarks.
I think it is more than this. I think they recognize where VMWare has gone with the GX and EX version of their software. Companies are looking at consolidating their many boxes down to one or two that are running a virtual machine that appears to the end user as a real server. The benefit is that it cuts down on utility costs (electricity and air conditioning) in existing server rooms and can eliminate server creep where servers have been replaced every couple of years where the warranty has run out.
Stupid thing about it (unless I am wrong and if I am let me know) he tried to ignite C4 by using a match. Last time I checked you need a detonation (i.e blasting cap) to get C4 to explode. I don't think a match will do the job.
That was the point I was trying to make. I wasn't trying to make it an anti-american bashing at all, just something I have noticed over the years. Someone later on made a similar post. An example where Hollywood "simplifies" a movie is The Full Monty.
I rented the DVD and noticed that there were two soundtracks. The original soundtrack and the American release soundtrack. The only thing I noticed was that they removed a lot of background noise and I suspect this was due to complaints about not being able to understand what they were saying due to the English accent. Seemed a little strange after seeing the original.
and we won't talk about the blue light over the puck that Fox did a couple years ago.
I think the point I am making is your typical American probably doesn't watch Monty Python or Black Adder or read anything by Douglas Adams. Instead they buy Britany's latest cd and think that Ashlee got a raw deal on SNL. These are the people that Hollywood panders to.
From what I have heard Douglas Adam's is one of those people who wrote best while other watched over his shoulder. This was said about both the radio show as well as the books and computer game.
There are two theories why this movie is going to suck eggs: 1. DA didn't have anyone looking over his shoulder 2. It has been completely Americanized and most of the humor that made the books has been ripped out.
I would suspect there is more money wasted on failed/mishandled projects (and lazy public servants that means more of them to do one job) than paid to the separatists.
I suspect that the newer MCSEs that will come out of the 2003 track will be a bit better than the NT ones. The NT was a walk in the park for me. I had to upgrade creds for my job and 2003 was a lot more difficult. Still passed it though.
I think that is part of the problem. Linux is not that hard to figure out. The documentation has improved tremendously in the last 5 years.
Most Linux people like to think that Windows only shops don't want to go to Linux for fear of the unknown as well as inexperience. I don't think it is that at all. I think it is laziness. If it is working fine, you have proper usage policies, all the workstations and servers are patched properly, antivirus updated regularly. Why fix what isn't broken?
Back in the 95 and early NT days, there was a definite window but Linux wasn't ready. Now with the stability of 2000, 2003 and XP and Microsoft appearing to actually be moving towards a more stable platform as has been displayed with the default settings in Windows 2003 and Exchange 2003, the road in for Linux has become a little more difficult.
Personally I think Linux has definitely got to the point where it is a viable workstation OS as well as a more than suitable server but Microsoft has adapted.
Will Microsoft continue to have dominance? Probably not, even Billy has said that but when that will be? Not likely anytime soon.

Now linux....
Unfortunately society has linked "hacker" to the evilness that this is. No matter how much you say cracker it will always be.

Fat people who exercise regularly are more healthy than skinny people who don't.

Usually they get around this by saying that the student can hand in a printout. Can't get less proprietary than that.
No it means you aren't safe in Quebec or border with Ontario. Videotron is the Quebec cable provider

It is a potentially lucrative market to get into.
I got the impression that the Jedi thought the latter was the destiny while the former was actually what was going to happen.
The Unclass networks are connected. But when you get into the C2 networks those are usually separated from the Weeb.
Hmmm a purple haze. Maybe Jimi was onto something....

So now they'll look for this one-in-a-who-knows-how-many occurrence
Kind of like how in the states they make you take off you shoes during an airport security check.
1 word (or is it two?) Wood-chipper.

they expect their employees to know how to install softwear, connect to servers
I find the connecting to servers very suspect. It isn't that hard to set up a logon script to map drives etc.
Plus if the admins were that idiotic, I would like to see them set up even the simplest active directory.
I think it is more of a "why go off into the bleeding edge with an OS if we don't need to" attitude.
If what you had posted was true, then those are the people that Linux needs to be able to address and it is nowhere near being that idiot proof.
Funny! :)
Maybe I will try that next time
um...
Last time I checked Squid was never considered made of seminola or pasta.
an interview with a Quebec Police Officer
Yeah like you can trust a QPP. They will beat you up if either you are:
A: You have out of province license plates
B: you make eye contact with him
