  1. I heard this before on The End of the Gas Guzzler · · Score: 1

Sometime around 1976, a set of targets were in place to meet mileage standards, which have been circumvented by "light utility trucks" called SUVs.
I heard that the Taconic Highway in Westchester, NY bans "trucks", but SUV's don't count as trucks when it is not convenient. Personally, I believe that SUV's should pay an extra gas fees (and increased tolls) to offset the addition stress on the roads, roads, and infrastructure that they impart. Even extra fees for environmental impact resulting in health deterioration. Shit, my allergic reactions spike during high ozone days.
You might say less taxes, but then tell that to my home owners association, which has fines from everything ranging from acceptable gutter colors to hanging your clothes in the back yard.
BP and Exxon pay a smaller percentage of their revenue for their egregious violations which makes a bigger impact on people than my purple and pink downspouts. People say live elsewhere, but I say how the hell did this shit get on the books in the first place.

Americans are masters of marketing who convince bright foreigners to come to the US to try to make it here. After about 20 years, most end up in the scrapeheap with their American classmates working as a Walmart greeter! My 4-th grade teacher would denouce the Civil Righs movement and say that to join the "Black Panters", you had to kill a white person.
Don't miss this opportunity to remind students that the Catholic church protects pediophilacs and sacrifices children. Tell them that Jesus was a political criminal. Remind them that the Bible says that during the trial of Jesus, Piotious Piolot gave Jesus a chance to demonstrate that he was the "Son of God". The work is not always as great as you first imagine, the reception is unappreciated no matter what you do and the pay is poor.
Let kids become doctors, lawyers, and business people. They will be smart and have lots of money! America gives a rat's ass about science. If you discover something, it will be stolen and misused. Look at the Wright brothers. Wright had to sell out to Curtis because the gov't broke their patents.

I have attended both private universities and state universities. I have to say that the in class competition is more fierce at good private universities. I never went to a third rate private university. Students joked about CW Post and Skidmore as being a place where rich parents sent their kids for four years.
I also took classes at Boston University. I remarked to someone that the cost of an education at BU was on par with MIT. They replied that if you can get into MIT, you are not going to go to BU. MIT also attracts far more research money than BU. Although, I have met someone who got a full scholarship at BU, while less money at MIT, so went to BU. About 1/3 of the cost of a university is covered by the tuition. Research and donations provide the rest. However, I don't know if most undergraduate students can benefit from research grants, even if that attracts more talented professors. I usually found that few great research professors make great teachers. Another professor pointed out that professors get tenure based on research, and teaching is not heavily weighted at most top ranked universities.
