Not that I am for this bill in any way shape or form, I just had a theory on how they might do this.
We have servers at our work that perform off-site backups. They do this because a client is installed on the server, and it sends the data to the off-site data center.
Whose to say the government won't require a firmware update, or maybe some kind of "US Government seal of approval" on all wireless routers sold in America that have an updated firmware, or client that sends the logs to an off-site location for backup?
Also if the router goes off-line and is unable to perform the backups, no harm done because if you can't get on the internet, then they are not interested in logs of local activity, only software or digital violations....
Ok, I may be going a bit far with this one, but do you think that Iraq should be punished for harboring terrorist? (Not saying they are or are not, this is not a political discussion) But let's assume they were. They were giving a home for terrorism to flourish. Is that not what TPB is doing in regards to illegal software distribution?
Yes I know the two are on totally opposite ends, it's just an analogy.
Saying that you just pushed a guy in a wheelchair not knowing that he was going to rob a store is one thing, but in this case a better analogy would be to say "I pushed a guy in a wheelchair towards a small store knowing he was going to rob it"
TPB knows what they are doing. Hell their name says so. You can't say that they are just playing innocent here.
Seriously, no one wants to throw down $50, or $60 bucks on a new game these days. Where in the recession everything else seems to drop in price, the gaming industry remains the same. I remember when back in the day $50 bucks didn't seem so bad, now that money goes a long way. I haven't been able to purchase all the games I like so I've had to limit myself.
No one wants to shell out that kind of money for a mediocre game.
Windows can load whatever it wants on to their Operating Systems. What right does anyone else have to tell them what they can and cannot load? If someone else want's to use Opera, have them download it. It's not like Microsoft is stopping you from doing it.
The reason for this is as yet unknown, although it has been hypothesized that the high levels of antioxidants found in coffee may play a role in preventing dementia and Alzheimer's.
Yeah, I seem to remember that some forms of Tea is also high in Antioxidants. I'm sure you could switch and not have to suffer the negative side affects from drinking coffee. Maybe that's too simple though....
I SAN will work faster to drive the data. This has a fiber connection to 2GBps. A NAS will only work as fast as the slowest link, which in this case the user has a gigabit connection so that's half of what the SAN has. A NAS is a lower costing device good for smaller environments.
I literally was up until 3:30am last night. During that day our SAN's SPS went offline and as a result, write cache was disabled on our SAN. This affected our file server and it would lock up, resulting in users locking up.
So I had to stay up late with Dell trying to get it fixed. What would have happened if I had said no? I would have to deal with all the problems in the morning, and listen to it from over 100 users.
Sometimes you just can't say no. But to make matters worse, once you give your boss the notion that you will work outside of business hours, they will expect you to do it more.
Much like getting a business phone...When I first hit the industry, I thought getting a work phone would be awesome!...Now? Because I checked my email so much outside of work, they expect a response out of me when they send an email.
I am seeing praise here that they are dropping the SecureROM for Steam.
Why?
The way I see it, I still have to rely on some kind of authentication server in order to play my games. What if 10 years down the road I want to play some spore, and Steam is no longer online. What then?
Sorry, but I still refuse to buy until I have a hard copy in my hands that I can install at any place any time.
I'd say Venus. There has always been speculation about floating cities on the planet. It's surface area would not be habitable by humans, but at a specific altitude, the atmosphere is just right for human life.
I know it sounds far fetched, but I would be interested in seeing if we could really pull something like this off...Almost Jetsons style.
Please Slashdot, keep this kind of stuff off the front page or at-least make it like a sub-post. (Those little mini-categories)
Is this how you want a sophisticated site to look like when a new user views it?
Seriously if you look at it.

Yes I know the two are on totally opposite ends, it's just an analogy.
That is a terrible analogy.

I'm very much a PC gamer. Haven't purchased a new console since the PS2.
It's like saying the gun shop is selling an illegal firearm.

Yet I find it funny that Microsoft is bashed for their choice to offer multiple versions of their Operating System.
Run performance counters against the computer to see what might be spiking. (Hard drive usage, memory pages /sec etc...)
So does that mean Linux has to stop loading Firefox onto it's OS?
Does that mean Apple has to stop loading Safari?

Say what you want about Dell, but they have a smart team of people when you pay the right amount.
You can't always say no.

Fantastic side scroller game, great for multiplayer.
Because it's cold?
If everyone knew how to properly use a computer, you and I would be out of a job.
What about wireless Tasers?
During The Simpson's movie, it showed Bart's junk while he was skateboarding. Does this mean the movie depicts Child Porn?
Yes I'm sure the ISP's will let this one go through....
