what in the world are you thinking? there are only a few reasons to buy a tv series on dvd:
extra features
higher quality than tv
you're a rampaging collector
the extra features usually aren't pirated, just the main feature.
the difference in quality between cable (or digital cable) broadcasts and the dvd probably isn't noticeable after it's been compressed with divx, and if you're a rampaging collector, you'll buy the dvd anyways. and in most cases it would be to replace the collection of vhs tapes that the shows were recorded on, or to pick up that one episode from season n that they're missing.
they broadcast the episodes for free for chrissakes. i'd feel just as bad about downloading the episodes as i would asking a friend to tape the show for me.
"Thank you... as much as I love debian and linux in general you've finally put me into that category of people who think the support problem in the linux world is arrogance."
"This [and the last post] is the only time I've gotten a bad attitude about this problem [or any other problems]."
the only time i gave you bad attitude was when you made it obvious that you didn't give a damn that i was trying to help you out.
"But please, let's be fair. Your attempt wasn't honest enough as it comes no where close to my problem. I'm sorry that you didn't help and that I've offended you because I told you it didn't."
you didn't sufficiently explain your problem, and when i gave you a suggestion (based on the information i had), you felt the need to flip me attitude. this is certainly different from telling me that i wasn't helpful.
"No where though did I resort to name calling."
nor did i. i freely admit that i insulted you, but i did not resort to name-calling. if i had, my message would have read something along the lines of:
"ask again in a few years, you prepubescent fuckwit."
...which it didn't. see the difference?
of course, there's no reason for me to call you names, since you've kindly done that for me. or is calling yourself "ImaLamer" merely a coincidence?
"I felt belittled by the fact that you acted as if you were supreme computer god..."
well, i may not be the supreme computer god... but at least i can install an operating system.
p.s.: look in dists/<distro>/main/disks-<arch>/curre nt/images-1.44/rescue.bin for your rescue disk image. the cd should be asking where you want to install the o.s. kernel & modules from... you want to select "cdrom". the installer should find the rescue image on it's own, though some unofficial images don't do this very well. if it prompts you, try pressing enter - some versions of the installer (such as 3.0.x, for installing woody) will search the cd when you do. i honestly don't remember if earlier versions do as well. worst case scenario, you have to enter the paths by hand. don't forget that you have that handy shell on the second console that you can use to poke around on the cd to find the correct path.
very well... go to the apple store, click "apple software", then "mac os x v10.1".
they mention the 10.0 -> 10.1 upgrade ($19.95) as a seperate product. that would indicate that this is the full install version of mac os 10.1
No, no... since you've installed and used debian so many times you would know I'm speaking of the step between partitioning and installing the base system.
since i'm a debian developer, i know that there are two places where the installer may ask for the root floppy.
perhaps you haven't gotten the help you need because of your bad attitude. i know that after being belittled by you for making an honest attempt to help you out, i'm certainly not going to make any further attempts.
why don't you try again after you've passed puberty? perhaps then you'll be able to hold a civil conversation.
if you are talking about the kernel prompt, which is something along the lines of `Insert floppy to be used as root...', the cd you made is broken.
the 1.44mb floppy images have seperate rescue/root disks. the cds should be booting from the 2.88mb images, which have a single rescue disk with the root ramdisk on it.
fwiw, i've _never_ seen this on any debian installation from official media. i've been using debian since 1.3 was released.

ahh, beat me to it. i'm assembling the Ultimate Python Marathon(tm).
currently, it consists of: (drumroll, please)
every episode of flying circus (45 30-minute shows)
holy grail (special ed. dvd) + special features
life of brian (criterion dvd) + special features
meaning of life (vhs, since there isn't a decent dvd release)
live at hollywood bowl
live at aspen (both from python! live dvd set)
the two lost german episodes (from above & "life of python" set)
then, the python documentaries/interviews:
bbc on location (during holy grail filming)
"the pythons" (on lob dvd)
the 30-year anniversary bbc special
probably some other misc. stuff
then, if we haven't run out of coffee, we can tackle the non-python, but python-related stuff:
fawlty towers (every episode on dvd + interviews)
jabberwocky (new dvd rerelease + special features)
john cleese's how to irritate people (dvd)
THEN, if we haven't died:
brazil (criterion 3-disc set)
a fish called wanda
fierce creatures
total running time is approaching fifty hours. sheer lunacy.
"The latest Debian CD provides all the software anyone could ever conceive of needing."
uh, the latest Debian cd doesn't even provide linux 2.4.x or xfree86 4.0.
and show me one audio processing tool that's comparable to soundforge, or SAW or protools, or any other professional audio editing studio. i'm a debian developer and i don't know of one.
how about "the wu-ftpd developers weren't aware that this bug was exploitable" - since it was discovered soon after 2.6.1 was released, but they decided not to fix it.
don't get me wrong here - i don't use wu-ftpd, either. i use the openbsd ftpd ported to linux.
i just felt that people should be aware that there was more to the story.
item: the version of wu-ftpd that rh released was a pre-release from cvs. they changed the version number. this bug was fixed in cvs months ago.
item: the securityfocus vuln-help people are supposed to help coordinate vendors & the software maintainers. they sent notification of the bug to the wrong address, so the wu-ftpd developers weren't even aware that there was a bug present until the day the rh advisory went out.
item: there was supposed to be a coordinated advisory put out on dec. 3rd. rh preempted that, causing this nasty confusion.
greg lundberg posted a big explanation of what went on to several mailing lists... it should be on the wuftpd-questions archive, but i don't see it there yet.
also, see the news item at securityfocus about this.
don't believe the hype. i bought toxicity (ltd edition w/ the bonus disc) a few days after it was released, and i was able to rip it just fine. i also made a copy for my car.
i think the person who reported it as uncopyable just had no clue or was using crappy software.
"I still don't know why 2.2.x had so few releases. only 17 before 2.4.0..."
why, back in my day, we got nine stable kernel releases, and that was it! oh, sure, some times we'd get as much as thirteen - though those cursed releases from 1.2.10 to 1.2.13 were for the ignorant masses! anyone who knows their stuff never uses a kernel with a patchlevel of 10 or above.
quote 1:"and then stupid site administrators will think that everyone on the web is using ie..."
quote 2:"...they simply not get my page-hits..."
how can you stand behind this argument? if people who don't use ie stop giving hits to sites, isn't it just the same (from the ie-only site admin's perspective) as everyone using ie?
that will be nothing compared to the php/perl gang affiliations... i can see a bunch of gansta php developers (colors: blue & yellow) pumping a few rounds into a crowd of perl hackers.
it's not exactly a fair fight, either. i mean, considering that the php'stas get to zip around in their pimp rizzides while the perl g's have to ride camels.
you call that lazy? i have a cron script that uses rsync to mirror the v2.4 source from kernel.org a few times a day... so when i see a new kernel announcement, i just patch from my local mirror (where, invariably, it has already been downloaded) and recompile.
this might get +1 funny, but i assure you, it is not a joke.

don't know about you, but my vcr automagicly edits out commercials when it records. it's not too difficult to edit them out on a computer either.
as for getting other t.v. series on dvd, see my previous post about downloading them instead.

nonsense.
From Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary (1913) [web1913]:
Culture \Cul"ture\, n.
1. (Biol.)
(a) The cultivation of bacteria or other organisms in

for example, not showering for eight full days because you're too busy watching star trek.

nothing at all - in fact, i don't even see them, since i click "no" when konqueror asks me if i want to allow a javascript popup to open or not.
