Excellent. Now the question is why these so called educators feel that a hypothesis isn't worth discussing on its own. If the opposing "theory" or "hypothesis" is creationism and they want equal time for it, then maybe they should move their kids to a private (religious) school. I can't think of any objective observations made by any scientists that would support creationism as a possible theory or hypothesis explaining the world as we know it.

Actually, I do have a tendency to write and speak very similarly. I'm one of those people who might accidentally use the word "niggardly" and be hanged in effigy for it. My vocabulary is extensive enough that I have to actively try and dumb it down for the majority of the folks I deal with...both written and verbal. I try very hard to not have people ask me what I mean just because they aren't as well read or educated as I am. It may be that more folks than you realize do actually talk how they write. Considering how many people don't seem to know the difference between "they're, their, and there" in their writing, it's no wonder so many of them sound like idiots too.

Thank you for pointing out the fact that some areas will get colder. Too many people want to point to areas that are showing no increase in average temperatures or have seen new low temperatures as proof that global warming is not happening. The information that I have read that seems to be most reasonable states that some areas will get colder while most will get warmer. Also, most areas are likely to see an increase in severe weather. Weather contains too many variables to easily predict anything more than the next couple of days' conditions with "some" accuracy.

Personally, looking at overall trends it seems to me that the risks we face certainly warrant taking steps to reduce CO2 emissions. Our current largest CO2 sink is our oceans. What will we do when they can't hold any more CO2 and the ocean ecosystems collapse? Ocean invertebrates can't form shells or chitin without the proper pH range and sea water pH is directly affected by CO2 content.

However, you don't tell us how to accomplish what you think voters should do. Most times it is a matter of voting for the lesser of two evils. You don't really want to vote for either/any candidate because they both/all suck. What is the solution to that? Campaign reform would do wonders but the people who can implement campaign reform (politicians) won't because it doesn't serve their best interests. Vote them out of office? The next person elected won't do it either no matter what they say while campaigning. Sue for false advertising? Hah! Riiiight... Voters haven't chosen the current state of affairs, it was foisted upon us and now we don't have the power to effectively change things. Next you'll be advocating armed revolution to overthrow the government and start fresh. Not a bad idea in the context of a work of fiction but in no way possible with the majority of the US being sheeple.

"Americans" that I know mostly want a good product for a fair price...no matter where it comes from. Unfortunately, in the US many, if not most, politicians are beholden to special interests. Businesses have the deepest pockets and therefore the politicians legislate in their favor. Let's not bash all of the folks of a country when they really don't have a say in the matter. Most US citizens would probably have things be different if they could. Our opinions are lost in the background. Sad, but true.

All great points that a death in commission of a felony is murder. If you choose to commit a crime where someone COULD die you should be guilty of murder if someone actually dies. It's not random or unpredictable.

I follow BBC daily. It is incredible to me that so many criminals get such light sentences for serious crimes. If I wanted to commit a murder I would definitely pick the UK over the US. Not only would I not face the death penalty but I could bank on getting out at some point. In the US it is likely that a murder conviction means you never get out.

How is this a "strong sentence"? If you punch someone in the head really fucking hard there is a good possibility of doing serious harm. Dude shouldn't have hit him in the first place. Here in the US when someone dies while you are committing a felony, that is considered first degree murder. In my opinion this was felony assault even if you don't consider it all came about because they were throwing rocks at moving vehicles in the first place. I remember a case in Virginia where a couple of guys threw a big rock through a pickup's windshield and caused a wreck where the driver died. They went away for 20 years or more. It's not like it was self defense. Much bigger dude chose to punch the hell out of the guy...and the guy he punched died. A couple of years in jail is in no way proper punishment.
