Why don't we power cars like this?
I can see how 'charging' stations (or, I guess, tesla coils) can be installed every mile or so and be used to charge electric cars, making it so that recharging our electric cars becomes rare. I see this as an option to one's electric bill.
It certainly would make owning an electric car a lot more practical, and more enviro-friendly. Yes I understand the power has to come from somewhere, but chances are the electricity is coming from, at least partially, renewable sources rather than burning gas.
Is this feasible?
Apply for a checking account or credit card. Once you get to the form, it will say something along the lines of: "please UPGRADE your browser to the latest version of internet explorer for EXTRA SECURITY".
Also, aren't Bank of America the gasbags that are giving credit cards to illegal immigrants?
As a student of VT, I find your lack of perspective offensive. This was not a gang fight or a bank robbery; this was a lunatic with two handguns who decided to kill innocent kids for no reason. Many of these kids have great futures ahead of them. Particularly shocking is that I would have been in the middle of this had I not skipped combinatorics this morning.
It's really sad, all those people died for no reason. I think they could have been prevented however. We were all sent emails at 9:30 about an incident that happened at 7:15 AM... that seems a bit odd to me. Also as a precaution, the campus should have been locked down when the first shooting at WAJ occurred, but they ASSUMED he had left. If classes were cancelled, Norris wouldn't have been full of students for the gunman to kill.
Virginia Tech is such a great school, both socially and academically. Its a shame that this will scar our reputation forever. High schoolers have been touring the school for the last couple weeks; its too bad that a lot of smart kids, I'm sure, have been turned off by this incident and will choose another university.
Thanks you all for your support
I think "AMD fan" or "Intel fan" is a bad attitude. When technology does its thing (progress), it's a good thing, regardless of who spearheaded it That doesn't mean you can't pick sides...
Sorry, but you are wrong. Read a biography on Bill Gates (I know the quote is in Hard Drive), and come back to slashdot when you are no longer an ignoramus.
There's no problem with the development of user interfaces. Pointy-clicky and large colorful buttons are what the people want. Using the keyboard requires remembering things, which we all know is just far too much work for the average end-user who still can't tell the difference between memory and disk space.
To clarify:
BlackBerry-like device running C++ at the core with an operating system bootstrap and optimized Java and that it would offer voice over Internet Protocol = iPhone
Other things have been advertised via viral marketing... just 'cause its Sony it gets headlines?
You say theyre 'up to their old tricks again'... well congratulations, you're the reason this type of marketing is successful.
"least dropped calls" I'm pretty sure it's "fewest dropped calls", especially considering "least dropped calls" is grammatically incorrect. I think 'least' is only used for a quantity that is not countable.
Not sure what schools you're looking at, but I'm an undergrad at Virginia Tech (pursuing a CS+Math double major) and Java is only taken at the introductory level. After that it's mostly C++, some Perl, and whatever else we want to use to complete a project.
Programming, yes, but computer science doesn't use C++.
Unless you get your CS degree to try to develop a faster sorting algorithm, you are going to be doing some type of programming. He is head of the CS department at Texas A&M, to say he "has nothing to do with computer science" is ridiculous.

are these the tubes Ted Stevens was talking about?
They even spelled "Ulimate" wrong downt he side of the box. Amazing.
Welcome to capitalism my friend
Think about what you say before you say it.

Apparently some of the editors don't actually read Slashdot.
...or a dump truck
Funny, "Invent the Future" is the slogan of the university I'm currently attending.

Sorry to nitpick, but it was: "One small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind"

"Today". I do not think that word means what you think it means
After watching those Mac vs. PC commercials where Vista is bashed to hell, if I were Microsoft I'd want to pull it too.
This is not Windows vs Linux, it is IIS vs. Apache. Where's the test running Apache on Windows?
...people have been doing this with Marijuana for years.
Newsflash: Google is not a public service, it is a company that is in business to make money. Promoting its products over others? How is that bad?
