I'm running Build 10130 right now and have run into enough issues that have made me wonder whether Microsoft would be able to make their July 29th ship date with a complete product, so I found the article to be interesting. That said, I do agree that this hardly qualifies as a news story that should be posted on slashdot.
"The Zero One or Infinity (ZOI) rule is a rule of thumb in software design."
Trying to apply it to handicap parking is stupid.
Also, you're suggesting Apple charge their employees for parking on a daily basis? wtf?

Yahoo CAPTCHA Hacked

The CAPTCHA comes up any time you try to join a game room, as they have a problem with bots spamming chat.
I've found Yahoo's CAPTCHA to be really annoying. I probably get it wrong about 20% of the time because the picture is so distorted (and I've been surprised that I got it right a lot of the time). I even considered writing them an email complaining about it, but then I realized they probably don't give a crap.
They get a piece of Google's cut when you use the search bar in Firefox and buy something. I think Firefox made $70+ million last year (or that might have been 2006).
Dude, the question begged to be asked. The editor just couldn't resist.
Anyway, coming out with a multi-touch tablet would be huge. It should provide for a lot more utility than it does on the iphone, and (hopefully) be much cheaper than the $10k Microsoft Surface.
They could have made tons and tons more money if they were just patient. The way the hands played out, there were only two possibilities: 1. They're cheating, or 2. They're luckiest SOBs ever.
overclockability. I believe those chips sent out for review are cherry picked by intel. Most of the reviews for the Core 2 Duo chips last year said the lower end chips could easily be overclocked to 3.5ghz+. That ended up not being the norm. I think something around 3ghz is pretty standard.
Generally speaking, if you want it simple, go with a Mac. If you want it complicated, go with Linux. I'm pretty happy with the in-between.
And how is everyone so sure that the lack of competition has stifled innovation? It is possible that the opposite is true, as they face no pressure to add a bunch of crap that isn't needed. Look at intel vs. AMD. Didn't AMD's competition actually slow technological advancement by forcing, and I use that term loosely, intel into a gigahertz race - producing really high clock speeds, but unacceptable performance? Recently, MS has spent a lot of time and effort promoting their pretty worthless AERO UI - why? because they started feeling the heat from Apple, obviously.
I just control-f'ed "innovation" and it came up quite a few times. WTF are all of you looking for? Are you thinking to yourselves, "Man, if Bill Gates wasn't so damn greedy, there would have been innovation everywhere. I cannot believe how innovative things would be right now if it wasn't for him?"
I'm not well versed on their supposed shoddy business practices. If they were really so unethical, then they can go to hell for that. It is possible, though, that they're just trying to provide the best possible product.
Whichever side you're on, you're gonna be with the US Army. The opposing side will look like insurgents of some sort, even though they're in the US Army from their perspective.
I always found it funny that the standard-issue M16s jammed semi-frequently, while the AK-47s that you can pick up from enemies never jammed (also offers the popular automatic-fire mode, as opposed to burst fire with the M16s).
Also, they added AI in their most recent patch, and it's just horrible. The dudes are idiots, but some of them have impossible aim, so are impossible to kill. I don't know if the same company made the new game, but if they did, that would explain the terrible AI.
The article does not say the kids are less likely to be happy. It says they are less likely to be happy about math, in particular.
I find that kind of surprising, but I guess if kid A is very proud of himself after understanding the difference between sine and cosine, and kid B still thinks he sucks at math (while still having the same level of understanding), kid B might be more likely to further his knowledge to get to his acceptable level.
It will be no more than $50 without a contract. It looks cool, it's small, and it is simple. I've been using cell phones for about ten years and I've never used any of the features beyond the phone book and occassional text messaging. I want a PDA/phone but it will probably be a while before data plans become affordable for me. Also, the only one that really interests me right now is the Motorola Q.

You're right - those who are hypocrites are indeed hypocrites.

Here are some of the damning hand histories: http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showflat.php?Cat=0&Board=beats&Number=12493401&page=0&fpart=1
Here's to hoping the language in your post evolves into a coherent one.
That's what I was thinking. If they are trained to see as we do, and they do recognize that those are the same color, they weren't trained properly.
If it is a long term effect, how could they be so certain that it was caused by cell phone signals?
If I were one of the astronauts, I'd take 1/6th of $19m and poop in my hand in front of the world.

It seems like MS can hire some TV lawyer for a few hundred bucks to defend against these schmos.

but this is what I'm waiting for. That should be out at by the end of this year, I believe.
Also, while you're outside, try and stay away from areas populated by wild pigs.
