There are a number of ways you can deal with the comment spam. The simplest is change the word comment to something else in your language file. This makes it tough for robots to find you. Another is to install the IP Ban hack by the fellow from Pigstye.
I don't see a few comments as a serious issue when they are easily dealt with.
Within your config.php there is already the ability to have a speedlimit for comments, so I don't know why you would make a hack for it.
What about Liquid Motion was that not Microsoft?

Wasn't Liquid Motion supposed to Kill Macromedia too. Nobody uses Microsofts Liquid Motion now because nobody needed it when they already had cross platform tools like flash.
I look forward to seeing what they come up with for a replacement. The suttle design has worked out fairly well as a low earth orbit vehicle. If they can work out the catastrophic bugs, the next generation should be impressive.
I think we need to get back to the moon and create vehicles that are appropriate for moon travel. The where further inovation will gestate.
