  1. XUL extensions? on Personal Robots From Valley Startup · · Score: 1

You know... it's odd... my sister's boyfriend bought her a laptop about 6 months prior to Vista's release. XP was victim of a very bad error and the machine needed reformatted. The XP disc that was provided by Dell (actually, it wasn't provided, I had to call and have them send one) did not include SP2, and you couldn't even START the Windows installation because of missing drivers. Luckily, a USB stick with the drivers and a slipstreamed version of the XP disc did work a miracle, but I just wonder why they would have sent a disc that you couldn't even install from?

  14. Re:I though it was an other 'idea' like ID on DNA So Dangerous It Doesn't Exist · · Score: 0

Atheists (people who consciously and deliberately reject as falsehood the claim that gods exist) make up about 4% of the world's population. Agnostics (people who lack belief in gods for whatever reason) make up one-fifth (or 20%) of the world's population. Let's assume that this is the same for the US. In 1999 the US population was 272,690,813. At this time the total number of scientists and engineers employed in the US was 10,981,600, although more that half (7,440,800) were not employed in S&E occupations. There were approximately 3.5 million individuals holding S&E occupations that year (or 1.2% of the total US population). The most recent study of religion among scientists shows that 38% of natural scientists held "disbelief" while roughly 60% held belief in God. The ratio of disbelievers is approx 1 athiest for every 5 agnostic, so we can assume that about 7.6% of scientists were athiest, 30.4% were agnostic, and the rest beleived in God. This means that 2.4% of US athiests were scientists... 2.4% of 4% of the total population of the US. Obviously athiests are in the minority in the scientific community.

I would eat the food described in the story you linked to. I've actually known about that for quite a while. I like organic food: It tastes better (fresher), it doesn't have unnecessary additives, and it's better for the environment. I'm also not opposed to eating non-organic food; actually, 75+% of what I eat is probably not organic. I don't really care much about cloning. As long as the host and clone are not harmed in any way, I don't see why it's wrong. I like stem cell research. And oh yeah, PS.

You do realise that monkeys/apes (which we evolved FROM) are vegetarian?
No, I didn't realize that... neither did Wikipedia apparently: [Apes] are best described as omnivorous, their diet consisting of fruit, grass seeds, and in most cases some quantities of meat and invertebrates--either hunted or scavenged--along with anything else available and easily digested.
  17. Re:That is one solution... on Creating Prion-Free Cows · · Score: 1

Actually, I'm not saying it's wrong. It's just very disgusting and neanderthalistic in my opinion. We are evolved creatures; we are at the point with all of our technology (being able to synthesize proteins, the multitude of vitamins at our disposal, etc.) that we no longer NEED to feed on flesh to survive. Yet, we choose to eat other sentient beings because of their taste. The thought of eating meat brings to my mind a caveman ripping the leg off of some pre-historic cow and ripping into it with his razor-sharp teeth. Just unnecessary and anti-evolutionary, that's all.
