OK yeah, I can see that. I'd hate to have the scientist make a mistake and have a foot growing out the side of my head. (or worse... "Gosh Randy, that's a really weird looking earlobe you've got there!")
I agree on this point. Citrix and other similar products can make a lot of sense in a corporate environment.
Of course I was working at one place that had people running Autocad off of their Citrix servers on the other side of the country... THAT really sucked.
This may be an attemp at +1 Funny, or you misunderstand.
If a person is missing an ear (let's say they got into a fight with a certain former heavyweight champion.), why would the scientists need a mouse to grow the ear? Why not grow it on the Vincent Van Gogh wannabe?
Well I haven't spoken with Larry in at least 20 years, and at least that for Jerry. I hope they are both doing well. (I last saw Larry at a "Crawford Con" in the LA area if that means anything to you.)
I'll have to check my copy of the book at home and other sources. I'm pretty sure I heard it was either written for a mini series, or possibly a movie. If you could check with one of the guys as well that'd help clear that up.
I'd have modded you up if you hadn't posted as an AC. Footfall is truly a great book with believable action and science. The idea that the invaders came to earth on slower than light ships and used orbital bombardment instead of twinkly light beams and our response with a pulsed gamma laser and an Orion drive based ship keeps everything in the realm of the possible.
Of course the thing was written to be a mini-series I think, so you have to ignore that every character seems to know everyone else and that when a woman and her kid are stranded at the side of the road hundreds of miles from home they are rescued by a close friend on a motorcycle that just happens to be driving by...
I built a set of Open Source Motor Controllers back when BattleBots new. These are useful when building either a Remote Controlled bot or an autonomous robot.
They worked well and I still have them in my garage. The design has been improved quite a bit since I built mine in 1999/2000.
Anyone can enter as long as they pay, and you can buy merchandise inside.
It's the LA Computer Fair! (or maybe just a swap meet...)
(For those who do are not in the LA area, the LA Computer Fair is a paid entry computer swapmeet. You can find info at http://www.lacomputerfair.com/ )
While I do not work at GameStop, I have been inside quite a few in the last couple of weeks.
The problem is that if you call a store to ask if they have it and the answer is "Yes", then it's already too late. GameStop gets the Wii in multiples of 3 (3 to a box) and there is usually several people in the store waiting for the UPS truck to show up. Since an average shipment is 3 units and on a GOOD day/week they may get 9, I doubt there will be any left by the time you grab your keys and get the car started...
The way I got one was to be at the store when the truck pulled up at 11:00. While I am lucky to have a flexible lunch time, I am sure there are lots of stores out there that get their shipment during the "normal" lunch period.
I stopped by a GameStop last night at around 8:30PM when a guy walked in and asked if they had any in stock, (several people laughed.) It's unfortunate that they are not readily available is large quantities, but that will improve over the next couple of months just like it did with the Xbox 360.
They are similar in name because of the symptoms, not because of the underlying cause.
Type 1 Diabetes is caused when the immune system attacks the islet cells in the pancreas. The islet cells are what produce insulin and when they shut down from the attack, your blood sugar levels rise. (Slowly at first, but at more islet cells are killed/incapacitated your glucose levels go steadily higher.) This can lead to circulation problems, blindness, and death among other things if not controled by injections of insulin.
In Type 2 Diabetics, insulin is still produced, but the body is resistant to it for some reason. (possibly from a person eating too many carbohydrates over a long period of time or because of genetic reasons.) In a lot of cases this can be treated with a diet low in carbohydrates along with regular exercise. Other drugs may be needed in some cases where diet and exercise are not enough. Some doctors suggest a healthy balance of protein along with any carbs you eat.
Some women can have "Type 3" Diabetes when they are pregnant. I don't have much information on this, but from what I understand it tends to clear up after childbirth in most cases.
A person can also become diabetic from pancreatic cancer. (But in this case the diabetes is pretty much the least of their worries...)
I didn't overestimate anything... I'm just thinking that since the PS2 has been out for so many years that there must be something that'll sell better than this. (Wii, PS3, TMX Elmo, Mindstorms NXT, Talk With Me Barbie 2.0, Atari 1450XLD, Duke Nukem Forever, etc. You choose your favorite hard to find electronics/game of choice.)
How many of the PS2s are being purchased by Grandparents who don't realise that when Little Billy asked for the new Playstation for Christmas, he meant a PS3, not just any version...
I was walking through the local Fry's last night and was wondering why they were stacking the PS2s in the main walkway. Seemed to me there might be a more popular item to stick in the high traffic areas, but maybe they were sold out of everything else.
And why would he shoot the Arresting Officers at Dawn anyway? I kinda liked her on "Buffy".
Will he be using a Cannon, Trebuchet, or an ACME Giant Slingshot?
OK yeah, I can see that. I'd hate to have the scientist make a mistake and have a foot growing out the side of my head. (or worse... "Gosh Randy, that's a really weird looking earlobe you've got there!")

I'd hate to have to go wardriving just to be able to open a word processing document on my laptop.

If we can grow a human ear on a mouse, why can't we grow a human ear on a human?
Why would I want to look into Harlan Ellison. Hell, I hardly want to look AT Harlan Ellison!
Asimov was right...
PC: I open the door.
DM: You see a fully armored knight charging you with his sword held high.
PC: I close the door.

Shouldn't that be WiiTii?
But you could use it to reheat the leftovers!
Obviously this AC hasn't patched his OS yet...
And the cassette tape, floppy disk, microcassette, LTO-3 Backup, etc...
not to mention pacemakers, insulin pumps...

Why don't all of the recipients stand in a circle and pass the laptops to the blogger to their left? That way you have "given the laptop away".
Nowhere does the letter say you can't receive a different one as a gift!
While what you say is true, I expect that they are talking about it filling the bottles at sea level pressure.
And having visited the UK in 2002, I can vouch for there being quite a lot of great tit pairs.

Actually, the first man to orbit the Earth was the Soviet Cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin, who orbited on April 12, 1961.
John Glenn was the first AMERICAN to orbit the Earth, which he did on February 20, 1962.
Alan Shepard was the first American into space. He was aboard Freedom 7 on a suborbital flight on May 5, 1961.

Unfortunately this would not pass inspection at BattleBots. You are not allowed to have any untethered projectiles.
Tethered projectiles are allowed, but the tether cannot be more than 8 feet long.
And no, you can't use a T.O.W. Missile.
Yeah, My oldest daughter had it on preorder since almost day one. (years ago?)
She finally gave up when they announced that the Wii version would ship first and changed the order to be for the Wii disk.
And now it kinda looks like the only Wii that'll be available is in a "Bundle" with (wait for it...) Twilight Princess among other things.
Typical.
