An old Southern proverb went something like: give beggar at inch, and he'll take an el.

Why exactly should I as a taxpayer subsidize some guy's 100 GBytes/month consumer cable traffic that he gets for peanuts? No, you do not have a constitutional right to discounted "moviez" and porn.

A crude device is probably not that hard to manufacture. If you have a lot of fissile material to waste, something like http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Little_Boy could be made in your garage.

Iranians could manufacture a much more elaborate device as their success with EFPs in Iraq shows; all they are missing is plutonium and some time.

  3. Re:We have 3 options here on Air Force Mistakenly Transports Live Nukes Across America · · Score: 2, Interesting

Not quite. The design specs were to prevent accidental detonation of a single nuke. It was never really considered that an accident could involve multiple nukes in a tight space, in close proximity to each-other.
In other words, the first five might fail by themselves without detonation, but those first five could possibly provide enough neutron flux for the sixth to go off in a big way.

There are shitloads of ways of achieve criticality once you have multiple nuclear devices banging around. See some examples here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Criticality_accident

Were I to want to sell my iPhone, I couldn't get nearly as much for it as I could've a couple of days ago.

If you are in the business of re-selling stuff (eBay, ticket scalping, etc.) then you are taking a certain risk which is a part of business and nothing to be bitter about: can't take the heat stay out of the kitchen, and all that...

On the other hand, if you bought your iPhone for personal consumption, then you still have what you paid for in its entirety. Whatever Apple does to the future price does not affect you (other than perhaps make your gadget a thief magnet), and there is still nothing to be bitter about.

I really wish I could understand why some people are upset about price drops.

I fail to see why you would be upset at this. So what that another guy can buy that iPhone at a deep discount? You too can buy another phone for $200 less, so you also benefit from the price drop as much as the next guy.

Remember, they aren't really taking anything away from you by lowering the price of their current/future products, they are simply giving everybody more value for their money.

It's ridiculous to equate the rights and liberties of people in USA or China. I too do not know where to begin, so just look at how we treat our enemies:

The worst of the worst terrorists are put up in an air-conditioned facility on a tropical island, with three square meals a day, and the bloody prayer time five days a week. Some abuses happened, now our military guys are in jail for it.

Compare that to China where they execute 10,000s people a year then bill the family for the bullet. Look up how well China does in Tibet, or whatever. Hell, there was an article earlier on /. today about Yahoo China jailed blogger, and all the outrage that generated in America. All the monitoring is besides the point; what matters is why the Govt does it and what they do with it: and it's damn hard to jail people in United States, given our independant Judiciary, jury system, and open courts.

If you are still reading this, then let me tell you that your argument is crap: you fume a little in the beginning, throw in a few strawmen about wiretapping (which is being taken care of as we speak), then you quote your alien buddies, go back to how China is not as bad as the US re: wiretapping again. Then you finish off with a remark about rape...

I do not believe what your friends from Krapistan said about corruption in America (is s/he an expert of some sort?); but if YOU believe her then just ask which country s/he would chose to live in and get a family going...
