Well I'm against that as well. The slashdot story wasn't about this, but I suggest maybe they start one about that serious topic.
As someone who has had posts of theirs taken down from Facebook for no discernable reason, I oppose "by the numbers" post withdrawals. Intelligent moderators should be adjudicating flagged content.
With Facebook, 1) You don't know the reason it was removed 2) You are told not to do it again 3) You can't view what the removed message was 4) You cannot contact anyone about it
After starting to seriously lose faith in Google living up to their "Don't be evil" policy, I have to take back what I said about "Don't be evil, unless it involves China". Well done Google. We are holding you to your own high standards. Don't slip too much! Credibility is a hard thing to recapture.
I think it would be possible for non-evil people with the best of intentions to perform an evil act.
Additionally, an evil person locked in a room by themself would find it very hard to do an evil act.
I admit I got their motto wrong, but don't DO evil would certainly be a better catch-all then don't BE evil.
I completely agree. Slashdot quality has really dropped.
Maybe if they sat on a story for a few more hours before posting you wouldn't get so much alarmist gossip.
Try having a surname with a non alpha character in it.
There is nothing like a web page to tell you to type your name exactly as it appears on your credit card to then tell you the apostrophe in your name is not valid.
I used to really like seeing movies. When I lived in Australia there were weeks when I could say I'd seen every movie on the board.. no matter how crap they were!
Now I only watch movies on Wednesdays and weigh up if it's a "cinema movie or a dvd movie" before I can bear to pay for it. London is teh expen$ive.
I just "cuiled" the phrase "problems with linq to sql".. and it suggested there were no pages at all. Google however knows there are TERRIBLE problems with LINQ to SQL and served me 3,180,000 results.
To say there are no problems with linq to sql is not very cuil at all.

You'd be happy to pay USD $280 to view tv through your browser? I think you might be the only one.
I'm not happy to pay it (as I don't watch the BBC but I have a tv that can potentially watch it) and I think it's a stupid licensing method.
The good news is it'd only cost you USD $80 to watch it in your browser in Black and White
As soon as I read this headline I wanted to be the first to write that!

Whatever happened to "Don't do evil?" With their track record, Google should change their motto to "Don't do evil, except if it involves China".
Slashdot would like to thank our sponsors, Engadget.
Aren't ALL 2 dimensional objects very thin? In fact, wouldn't they have a 0 thickness?
I only joined the Flat Earthers so I could get laid!

Moaning IBM execs are holding me back from liking IBM.

Ha! When do Australians get outraged? Only when their mortgage interest rates go up.
Australia has become one of the most morally apathetic countries.. and I know... and I'm Australian.
Obama has many plans that will meet every situation at all times simultaneously for all planets in the universe. *Sticks out cup for more Kool-Aid*
What's the matter with you? Why wouldn't you want the contents of your entire hard drive in a flat hierarchy? Instant access to any file you want! :P

What's the point of living in Zone 1 if you can't burn all of your money on overpriced services? :D
I wish tickets cost $12 here. In London a single adult movie ticket in Leicester Square costs around $26 USD. That's just for one person.
