"the deafening roar of anticipation" I'm in Australia right, a moderately wealthy fairly technologically developed nation. We're no Japan, but we're no Sudan either. No one I talk to gives a crap about this. My friend is doing a graphic arts diploma and he doesnt even know anyone who cares about this. It will come, if it is good some people will like it. Apple is not a religion, they are a technology company. GTFO with your fake hype.
Companies (and their products) are percieved differently in different cultures. For example Starbucks is huge both in America and here in the UK, yet was rejected by Australia. Given that too hate fake hype (and Starbucks for that matter) I think Australia might be the country for me.
Not really much point extrapolating beyond 2012... (now i would like to put a tounge in cheek or winky smiley but i fear in the/. world it's the mark of a moron... actually fuck it...):P
... most of whom are almost certainly guilty, and all of whom are foreigners...
I know i'll be modded (at least) offtopic for this but i don't care. I just need to point out that many people in Guantanamo are there for nothing more than being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Mozzam Begg for instance is just a normal british muslim who was in Afghanistan building a secret school for women to get education, despite risking execution by the taliban if discovered. Then after 9/11 the American's found him, put in his report that he was building weapons and sent him to Guantanamo.
And with regard to the point in hand, America will see no change with regards to government transparency - The Obama administration is just a corporate rebranding of America, identical to any company's rebranding when it goes down in public oppinion. We have the same political theatre here in Britain but at least by having a monarch there's at least some admition to the fact that meritocracy is most definitely not, and never was, here.
... control what WILL and what WON'T become the next generation of consumer technology. And we all know that the next generation of consumer technology will have a major emphasis on copyright protection and be laden with DRM. LAN and TCP/IP are going to be phased out in favour of a more "monitorable" technology.
We're observing the current phasing out of dvd in favour of blu-ray right now. They will put it down to consumer demand, but in truth it's investor's demand of the regaining of control, that's seeing these changes take place. There was no actual choice between HD-DVD and blu-ray. Both are ridden with DRM.
One giant (monitorable) WAN would suit them just fine.
It also means i can get them delivered 24 hours a day!!
Seriously though, i'm not into that sort of thing, but if i was i could ring up numerous drug dealers any time of day or night who would deliver my door within 10 minutes. If at 3am i wanted some booze (which does actually happen) i have to walk half an hour to my nearest 24 hour off license. I'm wondering if alcohol was illiegal i could just get it delivered within 10 minutes.
Microsoft may well step up but that does not mean they want to.
I believe they are intending to scare the open source community, which will in turn (however subconsciously) affect the future open source development.
Not insulting the open source community's intelligence in any way, i'm just saying when a developer is working on a new feature they're gonna have this threat in the back of their mind and may choose to make less inovative choices due to this threat, no matter how "fuck you" they think they are.
I find this all the more interesting after the article about who really owns linuz trademarks and mozilla's financial success. I mean who really gets sued?
I agree. I thought the whole point of principles was that they were fundamental. They should govern what you do in situations like this. If they don't and you get confused they're not REALLY principles are they. It's like those idiotic vegetarions that have turkey "just at christmas".
I'm a solo music artist and i have recently signed a contract with a small but well established music label.
I was a poor 13 year old back in 2001 and had it not been for me being able to download music for free i wouldn't have been able to afford many CDs, and i almost certainly wouldn't have decided to start making my own music.
Trying to completely erradicate music piracy is, imo, saying that unless you're rich enough to be able to listen to influential bands, you're going be unable to make money from creating music. Which is a complete catch 22 for poor people.
I bet the record companies are screaming "god damnit! where is thatcher when you need her?"
It's still the powers that be that create the top level domains (.com,.co.uk, etc).
If you didn't allow non-ascii domain names on the current top level domains, then never create ones that look similar in non-ascii then the problem is solved.
I don't seeing anyone currently rushing to have.c0m as a top level?
Just out of interest, what would happen if paedophiles started emailing photos of eachother when they were kids? Do the same rules apply even though it's themselves? I'd imagine they would do as it still puts modern day children at risk (indirectly of course), but when you see ridiculous stories like this you begin to question just HOW retarded some people are.
This is what microsoft love to do. They love to enter a market late with an immitation of what's already on the market in question. Remember when they pushed the "new" MSN search so much cos they were fed up of people googling? And now they're doing the same thing with the Zune and whatever the hell its music store is called. At least Zune is a slightly catchy name (if not a slight hybrid of iTunes and Zen)whereas "wallop"?? What the hell were they thinking?!?! Oh and i almost forgot Soapbox, that Youtube clone they're pushing. I really don't understand this company.

No more so than a twitter or facebook update

Indeed. For anybody wishing to read more about this prospect it was disucussed recently.

I know. My point was that the parent (which was on +5 insightful i think) had claimed he'd bought 4.
She plans to give the second handset - Apple will let each customer buy only two - to her sister.

Red is just fine. Especially if you support Brown.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but I think it was a typo and he was supposed to be called Monkey Kong originally. Something like that anyway.
What've the opensource community been doing in the last 3 years?
n00b! Don't you know? Vista is like the Mussolini of everything slashdot!
You better not even think about mentioning Sony...
By this definition piracy is a form of rape.
Now i ask, do the RIAA deserve rape for being so god damn frigid?
</Risqué>
