Math is a horse that engineers and scientists have to ride. I can understand the predicament of those who get bucked off or kicked in the nuts, but not wanting to deal with math at all is kind of like a long distance runner who doesn't want to do calistanics.
That's true. You forgot the standard "Now you are booted off eBay and are banned for life without parole" deal. Has happened to lots of powersellers simply because their competitors reported fake copyright/rule violations and eBay takes the "safer" approach of assuming you're guilty until confirmed:|
Forgive me if I'm wrong, but doesn't XP also take around 1/2 hour or less on newer systems?
Just finished installing an A64 4000+, Core 2 Duo (E6400 @ 3.2GHz) and Sempron 3400+ @ 2.6GHz systems, all with comparable hard drives (Caviar SE and SE16s) and quick NTFS formats. Sure seemed to breeze through it (although the estimated time kept saying 39 minutes or some such).
Why the frack would you need a Core 2 Duo? Graphics power is still #1 in gaming performance. Either save some dough by getting an A64 X2 (cheaper proc and mobo) or channel that into a better graphics card (X1900XT or 7900GT for ~$200 is nice).
Hell for gaming you could even go single-core. An overclocked Sempron is incredibly cost effective.
Uhm, I'm getting 3.1GHz at stock Vcore, 3.3GHz at 1.34V.
And you can't reasonably expect to up the clock frequency and not increase TDP even when maintaining stock Vcore. Gotta charge up all those lovely parasitic capacitances each activity cycle;)
Actually, there are lots of "computer engineers" here who bought FX5200 or similar cards and think its the cat's meow.
"Oooh look! 256MB RAM! That shiiiny FX5200 has to be better than my friend's 128MB 9700 Pro"
Reminds me of the n00bs (I'm not trying to be overly derogatory) in the introductory OS class.
Fork bombed the sh*t out of all the department servers;)
Yes, I'm guilty of blasphemy. Send me to hell now :P
Might want to be careful about the K8- comment. I have a Socket-754, PCI-E, nForce4-4x K8N4-E SE sitting right at my feet ;)

Sort of agree. I'm a EE who's taken a bunch of VLSI CAD algorithm classes. The devil is always in the details.
Because the idiot from Futurama knocked Single Female Lawyer off the air.
She wears short skirts and is promiscuous damnit!

Sounds like eBay's customer service ;)

And NTFSLink helps "unlock" the feature in XP.
So back to the roots huh? MOSFETS had that first M for a reason ;)
Frak that, give me my holodeck now! I can then ask it to give me the replicator, fluxCapacitor (TM), Duke Nukem Forever and hot alien babes.
Anyone remember the i740? It was actually a pretty decent card for its time.

Usual suspects?!?! Bring back space flight sims, esp. Freespace and Starlancer/Freelancer.
Yay, I get to mention this everytime a browser thread comes up.
BrowserCam
Well, it's certainly not infinite, but have you met the Serious Sam series? ;)
Same thing with Hitman.
I for one never, ever want to make Bubba burgers, with you supplying the buns.
Hah! Told ya, we know more than just growing soy and corn!

That's true. With DWDM, it's kinda the guy with the most p*nises wins! ;)
Don't you mean PEBCAK ;)
High performance FPGAs get wtf-pw3ned by ASICs any day of the week ;)
They're to ASICs what general purpose CPUs are to specialized processors.
