I think that is only with gamma radiation. for other types of radiation you have to apply a conversion factor, since sievert doesn't really measure energy, but damage to tissues. For alphas for example, the factor is 20.
Nah, I just think it is just the way they see things in Microsoft. When an OS is stable and works reliably, then it is at the end of its life cycle (like Windows XP).
That's the problem of having a poorly named country (United States of America), then you have to invent things like "The Americas", to distinguish it from the continent. There are other United States also, like Brazil and Mexico. And then you have the problem that they think that only them are "Americans", that's why in so many countries (including, for example, Spain) they are called Gringos or Yankees. USian defines the situation better, but somehow they don't like to be called that way. And even though wikipedia is not the most reliable site, when you search for "America", the result you get is: America usually refers to either:
* The Americas
* The United States of America
So even though there is no continent called America, there is also no country called that way either.
"In 2004, American geologists, sent to Afghanistan as part of a broader reconstruction effort, stumbled across an intriguing series of old charts and data at the library of the Afghan Geological Survey in Kabul that hinted at major mineral deposits in the country. They soon learned that the data had been collected by Soviet mining experts during the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan in the 1980s, but cast aside when the Soviets withdrew in 1989."
I think today I'm with the conspiracy theorists...
After some tests I found that my battery in Kubuntu lasts about 15% more in my Thinkpad X61t (vs Ubuntu). I'm not sure why, but that was also visible under powertop (10-15% less power consumption).
In Chile the earthquake was 8.8, and the deaths were about 500 (about half because of the tsunami). By law, you have to build everything to withstand an 8. I'm not sure if you've been in an earthquake, but I remember perfectly the one in 1985 (was magnitude 8), and it was damned strong. The last one was 6 times bigger. Anyway, we've been making anti sismic constructions for decades, and you can see the result in the last earthquake. Very few builings falled (most of them old), and low casualties. There have been also 10+ replicas over 6 since the earthquake (also a 7.2). So, please when you want to be pedantic and tell us "Those places will continue to lose people by the thousands every time a 6+ magnitude earthquake hits", please do your homework first. We usually have a 6+ at least once a year.
Yeah, a Gato Negro is us$2, one of the cheapest you can get in Chile.
If you want to bash our wine, a least do it right.
BTW, I'm answering just to remove the mod points I gave you.
sorry, being Chilean, I don't expect more than 1000 deaths at all.
We are not the most developed country in the world, but at least we now how to build.
There are radiotelescopes also, like Arrecibo (300m) or Effelsberg (100m).
Of course, you don't have the light gathering capacity of a 130m telescope, but you have the spatial resolution of a130m telescope.
Siever is a SI unit.
i was wrong, that's between Sivert and Gray units.

Bah, they just need to leak some info about PayPal now, to thank them.

You can also drink beer in German theaters.
All politicians come from American parents? That can explain why we are doing so bad in the rest of the world...

USians, not Americans.
wow!
Move here to Munich! you won't have any problem about full sunlight, but maybe you will need a weatherproof notebook...
or at least you should be able to return it, and get your money back.

no, that was what they said about CDs, not CD-Rs (at least here).
BTW, in my experience CD-RWs have a much longer lifespan.

And you need a car to work?

exactly, 10mb at 9600bps will take only 2-3 hours.
Not everywhere. In South America and Japan we use km/l.

Well, today's one was 8.8. anything less than 5 is not considered an earthquake at all.
