Some days I really wish I had mod points. Even if I did have them today I would be torn. "Insightful" for the Karma? "Funny" because, well damn, it made me laugh?

You have a big win from me today. There's some great info on the Ubuntu forums about which hardware manufacturers have the best Linux support. http://www.ubuntuforums.org/

"Ubuntu's best strength is handling the ordinary task-based day-to-day stuff. Vista has a level of completeness and polish that some people find it hard to do without."

That is the author's final conclusion. But, but, that says that Linux works better for everyday computer users, and Windows is full of the "polish" that "some people" enjoy. I find it odd that the author, as a self-professed Vista fan, would give these definitions. I thought that the draw of Windows was that it "just worked" and people would make the switch if Linux supported all their "day-to-day stuff". You heard it here folks! Linux's time has arrived!

    From http://www.computerworld.com/action/article.do?com mand=viewArticleBasic&taxonomyId=17&articleId=9017 182&intsrc=hm_topic/:

According to the lawsuit, the Chinese court specifically relied on evidence supplied by Yahoo to identify and convict Xiaoning. The judgment noted that Yahoo HK informed investigators that a mainland China-based e-mail account (bxoguh@yahoo.com.cn) was used to set up Xiaoning's "aaabbbccc" Yahoo Group, and that the e-mail address ahgq@yahoo.com.cn, which Xiaoning used to post e-mails to that Yahoo Group, was also a mainland China-based account maintained by Xiaoning. The Chinese court said Yahoo was instrumental in causing Xiaoning's arrest and criminal prosecution, according to the lawsuit. Looks like Yahoo knew exactly what he was doing and led the authorities to his doorstep. It doesn't matter what doublespeak was used in the request, Yahoo had the facts in front of them.

As for Google, they have refused to give out personal information before. I am disappointed in their actions regarding censorship, but I don't see how you can compare it negatively to the torture and imprisonment of a citizen.

Your the dumb one. Where can the rest of us get our very own "the dumb one"?

On-Topic: I agree that this is a good move on Dell's part. Many businesses are resisting the change to Vista. Many people own their own laptops that double as work computers. Having your computer compatible with your company's standard solves headaches. I think Dell may just have earned my business over HP. I'm about to buy a new notebook, and I'm glad to see that I can get myself an OS that is less flawed.

None of these things are going to stop me from Dual-Booting Linux for everything outside of work.

I understand the concept of using tools (Engines, Texture Sets, etc.) to create games. I also understand that it is unfeasible for studios to reinvent the wheel every time they make a title. But when a game is accused of stealing artwork because its graphics are so rehashed, I think it is indicative of a problem. Like I said, these things won't likely affect sales.

If you try to cross the line between real and virtual "value", you open up a Pandora's box that would be hard to close.

First of all, Blizzard would be in court the day any such ruling came down.
Second of all, if you legitimize the transfer of access to virtual property by assigning it real world value, you open it up to all the issues our money faces today.

Would you need some sort of FDIC-type entity to protect the guild bank? Guild leader gets keylogged, don't worry, your Epics are insured.

Repair bill insurance? Arguably your character is your main tool for earning. If he dies or takes damage while performing his function, the repair bills begin to stack up. Since insuring this guaranteed expense is unfeasible, can we write it off? What about the other built-in money-sinks? Arguably my epic mount is a sound investment towards future earnings. It will allow me to grind and gather more efficiently. Can I write off this 5200g expense? Can I write it off even if I've never sold virtual goods for real currency?

Credit? If I take out a loan from a guildie, and then I stall on paying him back, can he report me to a real world collector? Will it affect my credit score? I'm sorry sir, we regret to inform you that we cannot finance your home at this time. Apparently you have a large outstanding debt with xlegolasx. Would this spawn lenders and credit-issuers in game? "Mastercard, accepted at Auction Houses everywhere. Yes, even Gadgetzan."

I'm just saying. Tax people if they earn money from anything. That's fair, it's the law. But taxing people who don't have any intention on making money from their hobby would cause more problems than it's worth. Yeah, that still sums up the issues in my mind.

Yes, it's an advantage to have the best gear. No, this is not the deciding factor.
Especially in Burning Crusade has this become a non-issue. The actual stat difference between quest-reward greens and Tier 5 armor set pieces is negligible. Furthermore, the gear awarded by Arena points is on par with any gear you can get in the game.
It's about knowing how your class' abilities compliment your friends and confound your foes, then implementing them in the proper order while getting the best field position. Gear only comes into play when there is a vast disparity between players (Like I said, unlikely at end-game) or when they are evenly matched in skill.
