So, if his EULA included the clause that you must give the developer your first born child, do you believe that the courts would uphold your "contractual obligation?" Just because you have agreed to a contract (and I personally find it hard to accept that an adhesion contract like this is entered into freely) does not mean that the terms of the contract are enforceable.

And think of the even more egregious instance of a user acquiring a license that they think is valid only to find that this piece of crap has deleted their data. Additionally, is it possible that this piece of software could crap out and delete the data of a legitimate user (sorry, the only code I know is the Contra code for extra lives)? Also, a question, could a user backup up their home directory, install this crap software, and then restore their home directory and continue using the software?

Ah... yet another "progressive" /. poster. If a person wants to go to a private "religious nutcase school like Liberty University," what exactly is your problem with that. The only thing that I can imagine is that you are upset by institutions which you probably don't have any connection to. It seems you would take away the choice of attending such a place because it is against your beliefs. "The Norwegian populace doesn't exactly seem to be starving." And anyone who is not starving should give as much money as possible to the government, right? Everyone reading this should be aware that if you are not starving, you need to write a check to your government immediately. Just empty your bank account 'cause we all know that bureaucracy is synonymous with efficiency.

There is truth in what you say. However, the RIAA walks a fine line between deterring infringement of IP and alienating consumers. And the longer this technology is out, the more likely will consumers be alienated by the traditional recording companies as other companies learn how to turn a profit from these kinds of technology and thus provide a viable option to the music consumer. Also, I think it is a matter of time. Currently, a person may have a favorite band and that band has a contract with a recording studio for X number of albums. It seems like after a while, these contracts will expire or be completed, new artists will comes around, and the new companies who want to compete with the traditional recording studios will pick them up.

You're probably right if the purpose is to totally remove a planet from orbit by smashing it into tiny bits. My point about the Deathstar is that it was stupid; if they just wanted the population of a planet gone they could have used nuclear weapons, shifted asteroids onto a collision course with the planet - whatever. And my original point is that - while films like Star Wars and shows like SG-1 were entertaining - they certainly are not a sci-fi universe on par with those created by Peter Hamilton, Frank Herbert, or Dan Simmons. And thanks for the troll mod! lol
