I am surprised nobody mentioned Melancholy Elephants http://www.baen.com/chapters/W200011/0671319744___ 1.htm as a response to this.. I really think this should be read as a bed-time story for every would-be politician, just to keep on the safe side.
Considering that the word Zune in Hebrew (zee-yoone) means "having sex", I imagine there are plenty of pimpled teenagers who bought those and the next day ran to the schoolyard and told all their buds that they have had their first intercourse.
We all have a few years worth of time to burn on useless projects, dont we?
This actually reminds me on the theory that proves its impossible to work for 8 hours a day, 5 days a week (by the oh-so-great-one, forever may-he-live - Hugo Rune):
Days in year - 366 (for convinience sake)
Eight sleeping hours a day - -122 days Left : 244 days
Eight resting hours a day - -122days Left: 122 days
Free from work on Saturdays and Sundays: -104 days left: 18 days
1 hours lunch break - -10 days Left: 8 days
At least 1 week holiday a year - -7 days Left: 1 day
In the article its stated that the prize this year was 125,000$ and not 250,000$. it is then stated that next years prize will be 375,000$ and not 750,000$.
IE has already lost the battle. It will take a few years, but Redmond fell into their own trap and now FF is doing to them exactly what IE did to Netscape all those years ago (albait more slowly, but still).
IE is too inflexible, too unsecure and too heavy compared to its fiery friend to be a valid competitor anymore. More people understand it every day and as more sites become FF (or rather W3C) compatible, the less reason there is to use IE.
Are there any corporations out there actually using Thunderbird?
I know that in my organization, we actually adopted Firefox as the official browser (with IE removed, after much pains, from the "base installation" of our laptops).
But Outlook still dominates without any real competition as the mail program. I have seen the odd case of Lotus Notes still surviving here and there but as a whole - Its an Exchange/Outlook world.
So - Any/.er out there that knows of a corporation actually using Eudora/Thunderbird/Other non-outlook product as their official mail client?
In Sweden, my home country, perhaps the most known of all Western countries for its Socialism, the move to the digital era has been done with 0 financial help from the government to the residents. The only thing that was done was a campaign telling people to get a digital box.
This is already in advanced stages - Some of Sweden has already moved to digital only service, the latest being "Greater Stockholm" area, where the analogue broadcasts were switched off Monday, March 12th.
And now in the US, the home of capitalism, the government will use tax-payer money to sponsor such an upgrade?
If the Egyptians (could have) sailed to South America and the Africans (could have) reached Australia and NZ, then this is really nothing compared to that.
It does, however, bring up the issue of the Chinese ego, which is already big as it is. Before you know it they will claim to all being decendents of Caeser or something.
Did anybody here ever try to READ the license agreements from M$FT? Or understand the licensing strategy that is used on their various products?
When talking about a small-time business, where usually a single person handles issues such as software and hardware purchasing part-time, the task of figuring out what licenses are needed, where and when are daunting if not out-right impossible.
So a very hefty chunk of the blame on licensing problems in small businesses lies in the hands of the guys from Redmond.
Simplify the license terms and strategies and write them in a clear, easy to understand, logical and uniform way est voilla - Most of these "evil culprits" will do the right thing!
Am I the only one who thinks that their website looks like something a script kiddie made on his spare time during his 10th grade summer vacation?
Call me a skeptic, but I have a hard time believing a company that cannot keep a miminally decent looking website can build the first commercialy viable scramjet.
(or in other words, I'll believe it when I see it as a CNN headline).
2Mbit packages hardly exist anymore.
8Mbit DL / 512Kb UL packages are the minimum standard.
24Mbit DL / 1Mbit UL are fast becoming the standard (and get be gotten for 50$ a month)
100Mbit DL / 10Mbit UL fiber-optic packages are becoming ever more widely spread, with the full network to be in place by mid-2007. You can find these packages (where the service is already available) for around 75$ a month, or far less if the connection is via your apartment/house complex.
Yet another sissy little rover to jingle jongle happily around, collecting rocks and puffing at the effort of trying to climb over its own airbags.
Isn't it time we sent something SERIOUS? (Like, say, all the lawyers, market researchers and PR specialists).
Long live Douglas Adams, may he rest in (42) pieces.
(and on a completely different note - Every time I hear about yet another mission to Mars - I get reminded of this picture I saw after they sent the first "Rover" - You can see it standing in front of two martians holding a picture of Martian rocks while in the background you see a hugh Martian city, with one alien saying to the other - "Hold still, its about to take a picture". Anyone with a link to this will win serious Kudos points).

And there comes the obvious question - Why not drink the healthiest and most dietetic drink of them all? H2O.

That the sums stated in TFS are wrong?

1) Microsft and "human interface"
2) "Human interface designers" and "thinking"

Evolution in the making.
And the larger planet orbiting the same sun is her "big" sister in crime - Kirstey Alley.
If anything, Day Traders are the closest thing you can find to prostitutes.
Only difference is that prostitutes usually dress up nicer and generally have a better taste in men.
No, Pimping is the oldest profession in the world. Prostitution came a close second.

Did not even realize they still exist.
Kind of missed the train, havent they? So why do they even bother?

With PacMan 62% violent and Centipede 97% violent, where does GTA3 land?
I believe they have not even found a name for that number.
