actually, this is rather interesting. if it's genuine, what does that tell of this "vinland"? maybe i've got it wrong, but it's written as if it's in the middle of the ocean. suppose it's like atlantis and sunk to the bottom of the sea?
... they don't make land like they used to, do they? *sigh*
the can of gas thing is easy: one large battery that fills most of the available space, and a small one that can be taken out, carried and put back in for the remainder. some circuitry to balance things out would be needed, but i don't think that'd be too hard. of course, i am not an electrician.. wiring dude? circuit maker?.. thing. IANAEWDCMT, man, don't quote me on this one!
oh, that makes me think. rapid prototyping will bring one good change: it'll bridge the difference between virtual goods and physical goods once again, since it'll make physical goods easy to reproduce like digital goods always have been. we'd finally have some decent laws, since it'd suddenly affect everyone and people just wouldn't accept any less.
well, about the "download a car" thing.. maybe someday, with rapid prototyping. of course, that'd just mean we get the same debate all over again.. with the odds stacked even more against us since we'd actually be saving quite a lot doing so.
exactly the same debate, even, since it'd also open up the possibility for geeks without a factory of their own to design their own car. does this remind anyone of how open source gets criticized?
nonononoooooo! it's the wookies! they're smelly, they're hairy, they're always running around with a weapon of some sort and they've even got the foreign language that nobody understands down to a tee!
i've only read about that one with sound. because at some points, two "tops" of a sine wave would meet, it would have the volume of both added together. at other distances away from eachother, one positive top meets a negative top, and they cancel eachother out.
since the wavelengths of visible light are far shorter than those of sounds we can hear, it'd be pretty impressive if you could see that with your own eyes. i'm not even sure if it applies to light, but.. not ruling that one out. just saying any effect you see would be miniscule.
they may not realize it, but they've really taken one for the team then. if they've got a patent on it, and they stay as greedy as they've always been, nobody else will be safe trying to pull the same stunt.
up side: microsoft does something good for once
down side: they didn't mean it that way
no, but a control freak with a mind like gates' would probably change that to give him more control.
don't forget: he may not have been the brightest of them all (mac stole the lead in visual operating systems, afaik), but he is smart. he would probably have found a way to gain more control either way. do consider yourself lucky he's a geek:P
well then. it Ãs possible. actually using those stolen synapses, though.. phew. if someone could figure that one out, they wouldn't even -need- to steal anything. they'd be filthy rich!
just to confirm his point: i use linux and windows evenly. slightly skewed towards windows. i don't run into any trouble on either one unless i do something stupid. i know the exact definition of "stupid" in this case too. with firefox instead of internet explorer and avast antivirus guarding my files, the only way for viruses to gain entry is either by mom's outlook express mail-checking (which she handles somewhat responsibly) or from dangerous programs i downloaded by torrent somehow. avast even warns me of both, so.. yeah.
on the other hand, i run windows xp on one pc and vista on another, and no windows 7. can't say much about that, but it seems fairly obvious to me: windows' flakiness is because it's users are dumb, not it's programmers. the smart ones can choose between windows, linux and mac os, and the dumb ones are more or less forced to use windows. or mac os, sometimes.
but wouldn't an eye-less terrorist organization be terribly ineffective?
you've said about all there is to say though. just banning the information will get you nowhere unless you can be absolutely sure you've got every last bit of it. as long as people walk around freely, that is impossible. when we stop being able to do so because of the government, we can be sure that it failed. badly.
why yes, i hÃve thought it out. i'm getting quite sick of the constant troublecausing on the internet by all sorts of litigious bastards. except my plan didn't involve this law.. way to go nz:D
ah, thanks for clearing that up. so basically, it means people knew the place long before we thought they did?
i love this kind of thing. it's always nice to hear about some group in history being smarter than we thought.

okay, my friend.. think about this for a moment: do you really want to know?
or they'd just add it to some other tax and nobody would even notice. your way would be funnier though :)
"Yarrr to the capt'n", then. but yeah, i can't wait :)

i know, gramps. you've told me a thousand times already.

nononooo.. you don't get it. the bubblegum will exist, but we'll have to wait 'til christmas to get our yearly rations!
not the LieBore Party.. nononooo.. you've got it all wrong. he's working at minitru :)

dude! where's my lawsu... uhm..
nothing to see here, move along.
the worst part: a speaker and a microphone have a lot in common. big brother will love this!
oh come on guys, i know posting here is like watching a train wreck, but.. let's stop hopping onto the bandwagon, shall we?
i understood 2D and terrorists. those nasty terrorists have gone paper mario now?

actually, i could find an "intelligent design" in there too. christian, razor-sharp terrorist? jeez!
but wouldn't an eye-less terrorist organization be terribly ineffective?

this guy is distributing KIDDIE PORN!!!
i saw so myself!
they'd be guilty, but they wouldn't be wrong. if only people could invent a set of laws that could match those two on every occasion...
you'd just need to act like two people: one uploading, the other making the original recording. you could safely upload from just about any place with public internet access, like an internet café or library or school. write a batch file which deletes itself after uploading the file, a few hours after you left.. and it probably won't even show up in the logs. then, you just have to get some sucker to download it and distribute.. the rest of the plan would work, then.
