    Just because SMS piggybacks parts of the cellular network protocol to get from the tower to your device that does not make it free. While I agree it is a cash cow given current pricing in the US you cannot completely ignore the backend and administrative costs of maintaining any large scale, reliable communications protocol. And don't forget the cost storing all those messages for our law enforcement overlords to keep us safe from ourselves.

    Its been a few years since I left the embedded space (take a hint, recruiter-droids!) but per-device Windows license pricing broke down along the following lines:

    Windows CE: $5
    Windows XP Embedded: $40

    If you are an engineer in a company that employs corporate technical staff you can continue to advance well beyond the ranks of senior developer without ever moving into management. You will however be directly accountable to levels of management that most developers seldom interact with on a daily basis. If you don't see a path to further your career in company you are with then perhaps its time to look for another employer.

    I will say whomever at AMD killed the Phenom/Athlon lines was an idiot and should get a good firing

    BD was Dirk's baby and he was the first to fall on his sword. Personally, I think BD turned out well given the fact that AMD was teetering on the brink of financial collapse for the majority of the design cycle. It won't be much longer before Trinity gives a second look at what the BD core can do in a consumer SKU.

    With the prevalence of MSRA I've wondered why portable/handheld ozone generators have not become prevalent for hospital/clinical use. If this system is as effective it would eliminate the need for liquid suspension of ozone to prevent inhalation hazards. In fact, I wonder how long before other industries requiring sanitation abandon ozone systems in favor this plasma light system.

    How about formalizing a set of interfaces for the modding community so they won't see all their hard work go up in smoke every time you release an update? Its really hard to explain to the kidlets that the 'Ooh yay, kittycats!' Minecraft update they downloaded broke all the mods they had installed.

    If this screen is going to be the only display on your workstation then the level of transparency needs to be variable and be fully opaque to prevent distractions when not interacting with volumetric UI elements. Ideally the display screen should not need to be transparent at all with the users hands rendered into the volumetric scene based on camera input.

With a potential profit margin narrowed to 15% of revenue minus operating costs the US medical insurance industry will likely no longer be the darling of the investment community.

Was it the year you got an Internet email account, joined freindster, myspace, or facebook, or bought your first featurephone? If I were a betting man I'd bet I could guess your age within 5 years based on you how you answer these questions.

    When a fractured bone heals normally, does it have similar bone density as before the injury? I would be concerned about what effect on bone density this gel treatment might have. Now that we have gotten that little bit of pessimism out of the way wouldn't it be nice if this treatment actually provided increased bone density, and could be used therapeutically by those who lack sufficient bone density? I doubt it would be much fun having a clinician drilling into your bones to create artificial fractures but I suppose it beats the uncertainty of living with weak bones.
