    Essentially, it indicates an error in the original that the quoter has chosen to preserve for whatever reason.

    Usually the reason is to show how much smarter the quoter is than the author of the original.

    If your going to quote a paragraph at least read the paragraph before it!

    XFree86 does NOT have a bugzilla or similar bug tracking database. Instead, bug reports are sent to an email address (xfree86@xfree86.org) which someone might or might not ever actually read. Many people think of this bug report address as a blackhole, or a /dev/null alias. In many cases, I believe they are right.

    He's obviously heard of Bugzilla he's just saying that the XFree86 team wasn't using it or anything comparable.

    Charities, surveys and calls on behalf of politicians would be exempt.

    The FTC has limited authority to police telemarketing calls from certain industries, including airlines, banks and telephone companies.

    I wonder if "limited authority" means this bill won't apply to calls from those industries.

    I think his rant supports this position as some people don't want to read man pages to find obscure command line options, install new libraries, or jump through any other hoops just to play a video file.

    Because its much easier to detect and locate errors with tags rather than parantheses. If I'm missing a closing bold tag in HTML its simple for a parser to detect two open bold tags with no close in between. If you're only using parens you're out of luck. See XML is not S-Expressions for more in depth analysis.

    If you are walking through a hash, and want to delete an element (like the one you are currently at), this will kill the walking and you'll have to restart all over again. Otherwise it segfaults

    That reminds me of a bug in C, when I free() a pointer and then read and write to it, sometimes it works fine and sometimes I get data coruption, weird! I guess I'll just stick to Atari BASIC.
