In the past few years, US cryptographic laws have relaxed considerably. In the old days, there was separate versions of IE and Netscape, one with 128 bit encryption for US citizens, and a weaker (i think 56 bit) version for everyone else. Now anyone can get the high strength version (in fact they dont bother making the low strength ones anymore).
is the day i pack them off to the local Lizard Ranch (aka retirement home). I despise AOL with a passion. Between the credit card fraud they inflict on their customers (aka billing after an account is canceled), their cynical marketing of AOL as a child safe isp when in fact AOL is the one of the largest child molester in existance. Any self respecting geek should forbid family members from using AOL.
yes, they do have nukes. However, I dont think the Chinese are insane enough to dare use them against us. Why? Our nuclear forces are many times theirs, numerically, and qualitatively. A single Ohio class sub (24 triton missiles, 5 or 8 Mirvs per missle depending on who you ask, check sources at bottom of posting) could problably kill 50% or more of the chinese population. And Chinese ASW capabilities are pathetic to say the least, so I highly doubt they could take out an Ohio before it fired.
MAD (mutually assured destruction), while barbaric in concept, does seem to work nicely. Proof you ask? The Soviets, even during the blackest moments of the cold war, never launched a ICBM at us, knowing that the USA would retaliate with a massive counter strike.
The Chinese do not have the ability in any way to neutralize our nuclear forces, and for them to use their nukes would result in the effective destruction of their own country.
While the Chinese government and society are quite different from Western government and society in thought, morals, etc, I think they are logical enough to see the utter absurbity of using their nukes against the US.
i was tempted to moderate this as a flame, but decided a thought out response was better.
yes, the Chinese are commies. So what? Communism sucks, but thats their problem, not ours. I dont think they want us dead. Are they a competitor to us? Of course. When your #1 economically (which we are), everyone is a competitor.
Yes, the communist party is getting more rich, but sooner or later, democracy will take over in that country and the commies will get their butts kicked out. Look at South korea and Taiwan. They both used to be dictatorships, but in the past 10-20 years they become pretty democratic. Eventually i think China will too.
They are perfect for sites like this. After all, if the royal family of Sealand takes pot shots at unauthorized boats in their water, what do you think they'd do to a boat filled with scumbag lawyers in their waters ?:)
In the USA, american girls get fat eating fast food.
In Japan, girls get horny eating fast food.
Well i dont know about the rest of you, but i am in favor of importing more Japanese fast food:)
I'd rather get McLaid then get McDonalds
my slashdot spam account gets wailed on with Klez

Klez: a closer look
·
· Score: 3, Interesting
my dedicated slashdot spam account gets roughly 2-5 emails with klez per week. I dont know if some virus writing moron has a address harvester or what, but thats the only way i ever get email viruses. I should clarify, my mail server catches the bugs, squashes em, then mails me the paticular details so my actual email client never gets infected.
on the bright side, my hosts file blocks virtually of it. Then, a hosts file with almost 15k entries should block damn near everything ad related.:) See www.smartin-designs.com/hosts_info.htm for more info
such as cancer or Aids. Before you mod me down, think about it. What BETTER gift could you give to a person who is going to die then to let them make history?
you've given a semi legit reason for that fucking paper clip to exist!!!!! Satan's already running over to REI to buy a ski parka, and rumor has it flying pigs were the true cause of the mid air accident over germany recently.
all of you make good points. I didnt stop to consider that a high end alpha solution is massive dollars. Does using multiple channels get around the latency in rdram? One of my friends who is a developer says that applications that do mostly serialized type memory acesses do great with rdram, but unless your app is written to take advantage of rdram, ddr is far better (due to much better latency). I am not a big iron expert, so can anyone comment if your usual type big iron apps depend on latency more vs raw bandwidth? I know with Hard drives, brute STR isnt as godly as random access speeds unless your doing stuff like streaming video.
i just noticed the bottom part, "integrated RDRAM memory controller". RDRAM is WAYYYYY too $$$$ to be used in servers, and the latency on it sucks balls as well. I dont understand why they dont go with dual DDR (ala nforce style or intels p4 chipset thats due out next time some year).
Wait, i am confused here. I thought Dec was bought out by Compaq, which then butchered Dec and their Alpha technology to the point that Compaq finally sold off what remained of the Alpha to Intel (and a bunch of former Alpha engineers also went to AMD if memory serves correctly). Can any one clarify what really happened to Alpha ? I hope that Alpha sticks around, as i feel its a good archtecture (forgive spelling) compared to the x86 stuff.
What if the power supply fan dies, and the power supply itself overheats and dies? Thats a bitchen place to have a fire, as you have a nice high voltage (120ac) high current enviroment to feed it. Thats why i own a portable air compressor (one of those 150$ jobs). Its great for showing up at the client's site and blowing out all their machines.
At the very least, they pass on their info to the various blacklist sites, when then add the spammers to the reverse dns lookup lists. I run a personal email server that checks any incoming connection with ordb.org and relays.osirusoft.com . Believe me, those two lists right there stop ALL of my spam. I havent seen a spam msg on my personal mail server in months.
lol, i hear ya. A true BOFH solution would be to give her a crappy cdrom that cant do DAE properly, so when she tries to re-rip her audio cd's, it all comes out like crap.
When i used to work as a repair tech for a local clone computer shop, i used to go and grab all the aol disks outta the modem boxes, and nuke em in the back room nuker (5 secs does it nicely), then tack em up on the shop wall. When customers would ask what the hell had happened to the cd's, i said it contained a vicous trojan horse that destroyed your tcp/ip stack (this was back when aol software had a hugely nasty habbit of utterly corrupting your ip stack) and that i was sterilizing the cd so that people didnt accidently destroy their OS. Customers would nod agreeingly afterwards.
Funny, a few days ago, i was having to do the ole./configure , make , make install with openssh 3.4. Tonight i had to hit windowsupdate and grab the various fixes (flame away, i run win xp pro on my desktop, but at least i redeem myself by running my backup, dns, and dhcp on redhat 7.3). Any OS can have bugs and issues. But i still much prefer linux/open source for stuff that needs security. I patch my linux box a LOT less often then i have to run windows update. And i dont have to reboot my damn linux box every time i update samba or openssh or bind.

That either FTL (faster then Light) travel is utterly impossibly, or that civilations that discover FTL are few and far between.

to them, any form of Unix is obscene after all. So the Pornography description makes sense in a Gatesian way.
well win2k came out in jan of 2000, so my guess would be p3's in the 500-700mhz range.

try link #7. Free hint, make sure you got your virus scanner running first (or use mozilla to open it)

The asshole above is posting false links. The last one may launch a trojan as well. Some mod this cockbreath into oblivon please.
I hit my local sam's club today, and they had the LOTR trilogy for 12 bucks. If you havent read the LOTR series yet, here's a cheap way to do so.

What format was the music in? If it was mp3's, why not use winamp? Windows Media player sucks royally for anything other then wma crap.
