Try to develop a wind or solar farm that is "close enough to be useful" transmission lines and environmental forces will put that project on hold or even make it impossible to get permits. Sometimes the "green forces" in the US are just as bad as the so called party of No in stopping things that could make alternative energy a viable energy resource. I've seen quite of number of projects just fade into the sunset because of "the environmentalist". I personally wouldn't invest in any alternative energy project until they were ready to generate power.
And I'd rather have the soldiers, leaders and politicians that want to put bullets in the enemy more than the enemy wants to put bullets in us. At least then we'd win a war for once. But that's not considered nice anymore so we have our leaders and politicians trying way hard "not to kill the enemy" and wondering why things are going bad on the battlefield.
"Nobody would support or comply with another draft."???? Nobody except those who wanted a job, drivers license, school ID, loan, passport or pretty much anything that requires a SS#. Guess we'd also have a reverse immigration problem in both Mexico and Canada. Really just a waste of time, as I see the military cutting their numbers in the coming years making a draft highly unlikely unless global war breaks out.
My company has been in the cloud for a long time. They have build their business model around "being in the cloud" and having their head up their ass. I don't see where anyone can say this old technology is bad...My paycheck is usually deposited in my account within 7 days of when it should be.
Really? If the US is now just like the old Soviet Empire or Third Reich, then they weren't all that bad in my opinion. What were they complaining about. Or maybe you are being overly dramatic?
I'm going to work tomorrow as a diplomat like some/.'er suggest . Transparent is the word of the day. So here will be my first diplomatic words to boss man. "Boss, you're a hairy ape who is dumber than a box of rocks. You should just resign your position and let the goldfish in the front lobby take over."
I'm sure these diplomatic responses will do wonders for our relationship and I'll get that raise I've been wanting. I might even try it on my wife when she makes at one special dish that I really don't like too much but is filling. "He babe this food is terrible". And of course I'm sure every Diplomat in this world would benefit greatly from this new sense of truth and openness.
Really? Sounds like a great business plan to me. Intentionally "price out" millions of customers so only a few thousand rich folks can buy their products? What could go wrong with this scenario? Could it be that the Volts and Leafs are pretty dam expensive to build and Nissans and Chevys of this world expect to at least come close to making a profit? Doubt it, but it's one silly theory why electric cars might not be "Kia Cheap".
Research your facts and you'll find out you are misinformed. But don't let ignorance stand in your way from posting. After all we have the slowly eroding feature in this country called freedom of speech.
You won't come to the US because of this "one final straw"? You have much higher standards than most people. Enjoy Canada and send me some of those counterfeit goods you should be able to easily buy off the internet up there. Or are you really just over-reacting?
Seems like a few years ago the RFID in US passports was considered a big-brother invasion of privacy. And now that there is an "i" product that can access all your info in your iPhone, this is totally cool, bitchin and acceptable? Yes I need to get a real life. How much do I have to pay to have every store and my government to have access to some/most of my life while I walk down a street? I'd gladly pay $1,200 a year for that privilege....wouldn't you?
So I can cut out someone's tongue and it isn't a violation of free speech? But if I take down his website and do some cutting...Bam, I'm up on civil charges. Think I'll just stick with not listening to Kiss and continue to happy.
I'm still living in the 1990's. No smart phone, no e-reader, bell bottoms and an afro. But when I buy an e-reader the things I'd like to see are:
- Pictures of Bob "The Evil Villain" Smith and Mary "the hottie" Jones, President Bill Gates and so on. This would help me keep characters straight in my mind.
- Maps...when Bob jets off to Purgeastan to kill Mary in his $1billon Killstar jet, I'd like to see where this country is located and maybe some details of the cities he visited.
- Maybe a picture of the Killstar jet would be nice.
I'd be willing to pay for stuff like this that may add to the enjoyment of the work of fiction. Until then, my local library will be my Amazon.Com fiction source.
All Right...I got sick of watching movies while driving to work. So I switched to surfing the net but that's getting rather old too. Just think, now I can edit all the great pictures I take on my iPhone...WHILE driving to work. Life just keeps getting better. Thanks Apple!
Here is what I got out of this whole thread...The US should:
1. Educate all poor people of the world.
2. Dismantle some, most, all of our intelligence agencies.
3. Fire all politicians.
4. Don't fear or worry about terrorism.
So what planet do you guy live on? Great ideas but how do you make them happen. How about some solutions that we can actually do in the next 10 years.
Does anyone out there think this should be a non-story? Is this an end of the world event that some people cannot text or browse the web on their cell phone for 24 whole hours? Geez, in the last 10 years I have had 3 or more instances where I lost power to my house for 8 hours or more. I have had at least 6 instances where I lost all water to my house for at least 12 hours (bad water system). And I never saw more than a few lines in the local newspaper about these highly inconvenient events. Yeah, I understand that lack of electrical power or water is not quite as dramatic as losing my ability to send a text message but really!
If e-book are the avenue to getting people backing into reading then this is good.
I still prefer a physical book over reading on a computer screen. I just don't envision myself dragging my kindle out to the porch on weekends to enjoy an hour or so of the book I'm currently reading. I certainly won't drag a screen along in the car when on vacation. I won't be dragging my kindle to the DMV or jury duty so I can pass away the day. I know my boss would frown upon me dragging my kindle around while he has no problems with a book. I use the library for my all my reading material...I'm frugal; not cheap.
Not trying to be a troll but enlighten me about the organizations, companies and/or business that "really would rather the middle and working classes be a little less prosperous". Put me in the "totally ignorant about unions" category other than working at a Teamsters run place for a couple years. Maybe the Checks to Cash business, but that is all I can think of at this minute.

Die in hours? Really? In what world do you live in? Even in my tent located in the Gobi Desert I've gone 6 hours without one sip of water.

Unless you care about your career in the military or as a government worker. But who would care these days as jobs are so easy to find. Or not.
Never will stop leaks and this crap just makes working in a secure environment very hard. But that's just my opinion.
Really? If the US is now just like the old Soviet Empire or Third Reich, then they weren't all that bad in my opinion. What were they complaining about. Or maybe you are being overly dramatic?
Well, it official now. No damage done so put the whole thing into an e-book and sell it on BoringBooks.Com. Game Over.

Isn't habeas corpus the reason these people aren't behind bars?

Tell ya what, you give me $1 Million USD and I'll give you 20% of my GDP. Betcha I eat better than you.

Why doesn't some smart person create their own Hulu in the EU or where ever it isn't available?
