Problem is those libraries don't Just Work(TM) in ReactOS like they should. ReactOS is a nifty idea, but I've never been able to get it to work with my logbook program. I'm still using a rather old copy of Win2000 I had when I first bought the program. Although, now running in a VM hosted on a Mac. I'd really like ReactOS to be the solution to my *problem*, but I've been convinced for a long time now that I just need to write my own logbook program and use that instead.
I just use Google Keep. It's not great. In fact, it's utter crap, but I don't need anything too fancy. When I do (e.g. sorting), I weep silently in my corner, clutching my knees tight.
This seems kinda cool to me. I get texts that let me know when the ISS will be overhead (usually 1 or 2 days in advance), and they tell me where to look, what time, and give me a rough elevation where the ISS will be visible and where it will disappear. Maybe the Humanity Star gang could take some notes.
If they were paying $1k/mo they were likely paying for a brand new drug, where a combination of 2 medications would have only run them $60/mo.
Man, I don't know what insurance you're talking about, but we fork over about $500/month [cost of insulin, infusion sets/reservoirs, amortized costs of quarterly Endo visit, lancets (actually no co-pay on those!), and test strips (insurance won't cover those at all so we buy out of pocket)]. This is on top of a approx. $700/month insurance premium. I wouldn't know what to do if I were paying $60/month. One 10ml vial of humalog costs me $180. We're using an out of date Medtronics Paradigm pump as well to keep costs down because the insurance won't cover a newer pump, particularly a model that supports GCM/phone apps (looking at about $15k out of pocket for the new whiz-bangery). All told, the preponderance of my insurance/medical out-of-pocket costs goes toward diabetes and it easily adds up to $1200/month (if you include my premiums).

Well, they get significantly less subsidies than say Ford or General Motors. Roughly half. So, maybe if they are to be considered successful, we need to give them more money?
Chip hasn't exactly been active on that blog for a while. Did he ever regenerate more than 2%? The drag on this system would be tremendous. I think it would make a better speed brake than a power regeneration system. In my aircraft, I have to descend at least at a 6-degree angle (or greater) in order for the weight of the plane to drive the N1. And that's a mostly free turbine (it does turn an accessory box for hydraulic and electric). I can't imagine putting a heavy electric-generating load onto a propeller system and recovering enough energy to do more than 60-90 seconds of modest powered flight. Perhaps that would be enough to make that one final correction on landing, but if it's not enough to do a go-around, it's just not enough.
Certainly there will never be another Wal-Mart / Amazon / Big Box Store / et al, to come along that will be able to do it better and cheaper. 'Cause that's never happened. Ever.
