Why should you have to be a criminal to play your bought media on a different system?
If Mum sends me a WMV encoded clip from her camera of the new puppy, shouldn't I just be able to double click it in Linux, play it and enjoy it without having to feel like a dodgy guy for having not-so-legal Linux codecs installed?
I think, when you create a technology/protocol/service that is a fundamentally useful, standard that is a leading standard, this protocol/format should be open and exchangeable by everyone./rant
Some people just like the smell of old books, some folk want to feel they're holding the actual copy and it's a real thing - and books don't have 'issues' like popups, spyware and hassles, a book is just text with sometimes a few unidentifiable things stuck to the pages.
I, for one, prefer eBooks, I have -20 diopters of sucky myopia (short sightedness) in both eyes and I prefer reading on the screen, I can change the fonts, manipulate the text until I'm happy with it and read more or less comfortably. However, I really miss lying in the bath/bed reading.
Don't suggest Audio books, I can't stand audio books 99% of the time.
Now if someone could make a cheap, lightweight eBook reader with a large (I'm talking somewhere between A4 and A5 size) and I can set the fonts to white on black, I would sell all three of my nuts.
What I enjoy about Mark's comments int he inteview (and in others) is that he tends to be genuine, calm and honest in his talkings, and uses very few corporate buzzwords. Maybe that's because he rolls his own distros, cigarettes and whatnot, but it's refreshing to see an important IT headcheese soundling like you're talking to him as a person and not a bot.
Here's wishing Ubuntu a long, prosperous future! \ \\//
I was going to suggest a Beowulf cluster but I'd rather not get the -1 redundant post too. So I'm going to make the quirky and even more redundant post about not installing Windows on it at all, because when Windows falls over, it really is going to fall over.
Is this due to the power 'leaking' or is this a case of the notebooks been so fast they need the power?
I guess this is due to the race to make the fatest notebooks and not revise any sort of means of quality control and forward planning.
This surprises me a little, I haven't seen much of Dell's new stuff, but all of the Pentium 2 class Dell notebooks we have and their P2 class Optiplex desktops have been utterfly reliable machines.
"He makes the claim that 'security guys break the Mac every single day. Every single day, they come out with a total exploit, your machine can be taken over totally. I dare anybody to do that once a month on the Windows machine.'"
It's almost like virgins talking about sex, I'd question if he actually *uses* his own O/S.
If you'd been following the recent story regarding China's lil' missile they used to destroy an old weather satellite, and then saw US's reaction and statement about it you'll know that America owns space, and possibly everything.:)
Besides, they are already floating lawyers floating in space, waiting.
Will this mean there will be less goths and emos on the streets? :)
Ahahahaa, you made my day you did, thank you!
I guess someone at AOL must've read a certain article about computers needing to forget...
That's what FAT32 was designed for.
A very human trait that :)
Johnny 5 was a real sentient being, damnit!
This raises my main argument over DRM.

Wouldn't he have released the evidence and plans of the act under the GPL publicly? :)
+5 Punsightful.
That's just going to make your signal even stronger!

Who got first post(it) ? :)
In related news, The RIAA have been seen setting up camp.
I for one, welcome our new acquired-myopia suffering young overlords.

It's the powerup you do not want to take while stuck in the cube!

I guess their standards have dropped severely.
or, "By photographing this house, you agree to the EULA"
Sounds similar to the marketing surrounding Vista :)
Yeah, except it doesn't taste like real Kool Aid since it's watered so heavily down with DRM.

I don't own a car, so I get sweet fuck all! :)
and watch out for those trojan cookies!
