So, i guess these are the questions... 1. If you are streaming your music to a device that belongs to you does that count as broadcasting?
    2. Does your "personal" license to music allow to remotely broadcast music to a device even if you are the only one that can access it?
    3. If you are considered to be broadcasting, shouldnt this effect other devices such as sling box? (im pretty sure rebroadcasting sport events is pretty much frowned upon)
    4. Does this mean that uploading any music to a personal server makes you a "broadcaster", even if you are the only one that can access the stream? Am i a broadcaster if i email a song to myself for easy access?
    5. Where does playback start? Does it start when i select the songs from my server that i want to hear or does in start inside of my device?

of course, i take all this with a grain of salt. i have been streaming music from one computer to another for years. as far as i am concerned, this is no different then having a radio in one room and speaker in another. the fact that anyone feel that they deserve "their fair share" when they arent having to invest in the innovation is offensive to me.

  11. Re:Not anytime soon - hold on there... on Ask Slashdot: Data-Only Phone, Voice Over WiFi? · · Score: 2

i actually did something similar to this for about a year and it worked very well. I had a sprint Razr V3M that i used for data and VOIP with Vonage and it worked reasonably well all of the time. I used the cheapest Vonage box i could find, my old landline phone and my wrt54g/ddwrt router. in order to get internet to the router to be shared with the vonage box i turned on internet connection sharing on the computer and plugged it into the router "internet" input. after that i had shared wifi and LAN internet. Vonage used about 75kbps and EVDO top out about 125kbps in my area. and keep in mind, this was FOUR YEARS AGO!!!

Now keep in mind, this was EVDO, and at the time there wasnt much faster then that, and if there was other stuff going on over the internet then i would have the voice quality degrade to (or most likely have no sound at all, but my calls still did complete). never had latency/lag issues either. and yeah, i was still paying for data through Sprint and Voice through Vonage, but the savings were about $50 a month as i always went over on my available airtime, for unlimited voice voice and unlimited data ($40 a month to sprint and $25 to vonage versus $90+ a month for unlimited data through sprint and limited voice through sprint.

What you are proposing isnt really a terrible idea, and so long as WiMax stays neutral to services, it should work great!

i got hassled for saying "bomb" on a train...really. i was going to an airshow at Scott Airforce Base near St Louis, Mo and i was told i couldnt enter with a BOOKBAG...SPECIFICALLY a book bag...i could have a small canvas sack, a purse, a fanny pack, and, the one that pushed me to the edge...a camera bag. i was told BY THE AIRMEN that i could put my bag in the field T the parking lot by the gate i was at (not on the airbase) but i couldnt bring it with me. i found the logic behind what i was told mindbogglingly retarded. i was taking a public train there so i just hoped back on and dropped my bag at another stop, well hidden and safe. while i was on the train, i called my mother and listed the absolutely retardedness of what i was told, explaining how my have a camera bag that is TWICE the size of my book bag, that it had tons of tiny hiding spots for whatever they are so scared of and that if i was truly determined that i could fill a lens with "whatever" because they only had peole looking through bags and no real detection equipment.

I didnt care who heard what i was talking about, because it was the truth, what they were asking for was unrealistic. but i complied anyway. turns out there was an airman a few seats forward of me, and he had called the base because i guess i posed a threat to freedom....or something.

so when i got back to the airshow, the gate security pulled me aside, then the county cops detained me, but didnt handcuff me or put me in the car...they just asked for ID and asked me all the usual questions (warrants, have you been arrested, you know what county jail is like), but i wasnt "arrested" they kept me there for 20 minutes before i said, "i dont know where i am, but im not staying any longer, so i am going to find out when i either get chased down by the airforce or by the county cops." 1 minute later i was pulled into the airforce base where searched in the same manner they do at airports now and i was interviewed by a couple of FBI agents about what i knew about everything i said, then told that talking about it publicly was irresponsible (i reminded then that this base was pretty much a tribute to my right to say what i wanted, and that its here to protect those rights). i was in with them for about ten minutes before some guys came along and told them that they couldnt hold me. 30 seconds later i was out the door and told i couldnt come back "that day"(dont come back ever).

all in all it was a great day for me, but i really wanted to go to the air show :(

but then again, thats one of the things that made Crazy Taxi Unique. it had super sharp graphics, decent music and the real world locations added a feel of realism to a completely unbelievable environment. In some way it would be like if they took the Pizza Hut ads out of the TMNT: The Arcade Game on the NES, sure the game would be the same, and not even matter to a new generation of gamers, but its all about the nostalgic feel for some games, and pruning that ruins that experience.

It should also be noted that CT hasnt had music from the offspring OR KFC, Levi's, or Pizza Hut ads since 2006 (roughly) none of the portable versions have the orignal ads or music, so i dont know why this would be much of a surprise.

and with that said, it should be noted that CT has one of the most significant patents in console game history. Its still a fun and groundbreaking game, but ill keep playing it on my Dreamcast for now.
