  1. Re:Its justified price on Why Games Cost $60 · · Score: 1

Games that tanked go for much cheaper than successful games, and they generally get a price reduction more quickly. These days I don't see classic/platinum editions anymore. At least not of console games. And I was only referring to new games.

For example, after half a year, successful games get reduced to about 30 euro, while games that have tanked go for 20 euro, 15 euro or even 10 euro (if it really tanked badly and they need to get rid of their stock).

Countless people on this very site have claimed that linux is unsuitable because it typically has a single simple place to find apps rather than doing things the same way windows does.

Do you know why? Because this "single simple place" can't possibly have everything, and installing something from somewhere else is hell. I know I still haven't installed the damn printer driver I need properly.

  4. Re:Price Inflexibility on Why Games Cost $60 · · Score: 1

This is mostly a Western thing. In, say, Japan, there are flexible pricing structures. The latest blockbuster RPGs cost $80 while the rest of the games cost $50. Mind you, this might seem like a lot of money, but the economy there is different.

I think you're being a bit too harsh on the game. The tricks system is there exactly to get you through the obstacles unharmed and maintain your speed. As for the level design, it's not that bad. Try the Sonic Advance games to see what bad looks like. Too many large bottomless pits.

  9. Re:Sonic 2d on New 2D, HD Sonic Game Coming In 2010 · · Score: 1

Actually, the three Sonic Advance games weren't that good. They had poor level design. Sonic Rush was a step up with the tricks system, better level design, and great music, but it's still not the same thing as the original series. Everything is still about going fast. The original series was about good level design with platforming, and momentum. Not constant speed.

Never underestimate what a higher amount of video memory can mean for the graphical quality. You seem to forget that the Dreamcast was short-lived, and improvements could still be made, just like they happened on the PS2.

  11. Re:ahh good times on Sega Dreamcast Turns 10 · · Score: 1

Also the Dreamcast can only do 640x480, while the PS2 can do 1280x1024.

That the PS2 can do that is pointless, as it's used on SDTVs, and there is no VGA support. The Dreamcast, however, does support VGA, and through that it supports higher resolutions like 800x600. Try Sonic Adventure and Power Stone in VGA mode sometime. Word has it that higher resolutions are possible as well.

At the end of the day, these higher resolutions don't matter, as you get better performance at 640x480.

The Dreamcast has no surround sound support whatsoever. The Dreamcast also doesn't have USB.

    To most, this doesn't matter.

Dreamcast VMU's only hold 128KB of data compared to the 8MB of PS2 Memory Cards.

But can you play mini-games on the PS2 memory cards? Can you view your save data while not connected to the console? Can you exchange save data with friends by connecting your memory cards? No, you can't.

Another advantage of the Dreamcast over the PS2 is that it was much easier to develop for.

Skies of Arcadia's sound quality went down in its GameCube port, though, due to being compressed. As for Shenmue, it didn't get ported to the GameCube. However, Shenmue II did get ported to the Xbox. Actually, the reason Shenmue II wasn't released on the Dreamcast in the USA and had no English voice acting in the PAL version is because Microsoft paid them to not release it in the USA, and said they would pay the English voice acting costs for the Xbox version.
