    What official numbers? The numbers released by Sony?

    And if you know anything about the history of console sales, you would know that the technical merits of the system are not the only factor in what console sells the most.

    Why is it that PS3s are widely available and languishing on store shelves while stores cannot keep the Wii in the stock? I mean, if the battle is so neck to neck as you believe, the PS3 boxes wouldn't be collecting dust - would they? Face it, Sony is a terrible company that practices anti-consumer behavior and they deserve to lose. Why would you even want to support them? They make MS look noble by comparison.

    What exactly do you mean by "a technical type"? Are you saying that you are analyzing the feature set and estimating the difficulty of the creation of that feature set?

    "In short, because what people like me find impactful in video games rarely shows up significantly in Madden's new feature set each year there is criticism of it and the people who buy it. It is not without warrant, because we don't want to see the proliferation of feature sets we are wholly uninterested in. Perhaps it is rather unfair and not an understanding position to take, but it is not without reason."
    Because I don't enjoy Final Fantasy games and do not play them, when a new one comes out, I don't jump on Internet message boards and insult people who do enjoy Final Fantasy games and complain about how they're all the same. Do you know why? I don't play the games so I don't feel as though I can evaluate what has changed between the latest release and the previous release. Why is it that people who don't play Madden can't show the same restraint? I just don't think you're in any type of position to make a judgement here.

    Wow. That's great. You named some games and what they added - coming NOWHERE near defining a metric for measuring change.

    Madden 2005: added the hit stick - a new control scheme, playmaker controls - allows more control of all players after the play has been called, new weekly talk radio show feature highlighting the season, introduction of player morale, franchise tags for working within the salary cap (just as in the NFL);

    See? It's easy to list new features in Madden too. You claimed that Madden was unchanged when compared to other games. Okay - so I've cited a change list for Madden 04 to Madden 05. Tell me how you've determined that Warcraft 2 -> Warcraft 3 was a new game and Madden 04 -> Madden 05 was not. How are you measuring change? You never answered that.

    "However, buying the same game, every year, with NOTHING NEW (aside from better graphics and the new team rosters), makes me sad."
    How many Madden games have you owned? There is more in each release than just new rosters. And to fans of the NFL that are looking for a football simulation, those updated rosters are important. Would it be nice if EA released roster updates? Sure - but that's not the way it goes. They've added numerous additions over the years including different play modes, mini-games, individual player career mode, et cetera. I just don't understand why someone would criticize others for buying and enjoying a game. Yes, I buy Madden. Not every year but often enough. Why do you care so much?

    "As a side note, this is the same reason why I hate seeing all these FPS games that are simply rehashes of the same ol', same ol' sell so well. I was afraid of this when we saw UT2K3 and UT2K4 (it felt exactly as if UT was turning into madden), however the games were segnificantly different, and more importantly there was not another UT until UT2K7. Only so much can progress in 1 year of time, where decent amount CAN happen in 3 (not saying UT2K7 is any good, as I have not seen much of it yet.)"
    What metric are you using to measure "difference" and how have you determined that UT2K3 and UT2K4 have higher ratings than Madden 03 and Madden 04? Where is the list of features that are different between Madden 03 and Madden 04? Certainly you must be able to list off the differences if you're so sure that it's such a small list.
