I assume you are reffering to the problems that came about from the launch of HL2 (assuming as you do not elaborate at all).
So again, most of the problems that were there have been fixed. Yes, you can play your purely offline content offline with no problems. Yes, you still need to unlock the game from the start, however I personaly prefer that to other forms of copy protection. Yes, the launch of HL2 was rocky b/c of the steam servers getting hammered horribly.
If you wana bash something, bash it, don't just make random comments.
As for the Civ series showing up on Steam? Nifty, I am always glad to see the library grwoing, admitedly I have no interest in strategy games so this is not great boon to me.
It isn't actualy that evil of a concept. selling strategy guides online? so what?
I know, in this case aparently the strategy guides are not worth the paper they are not printed on. However as a general concept it is nifty, especialy if it was done video commentary style.
Note: I would never buy one, but that is b/c strategy guides are pointless as there are pleanty of sites out there that offer these things for free (gamefaqs).
This post (and the others I have seen complaining about it) just came off as silly. I decided to poke around and found some screen caps of old vs new and the new basicly just looks like a Night Elf male body. This isn't a "bad" thing. This is a "so friken what" thing.
Combine that with the fact that your race realy is not visible startign in the mid to late game where every one has the same friken armour and the only way to guess someone's race is if they don't have a helmet displayed or if they are a friken dwarf/gnome.
Nah, I wasn't even looking for specifics, I was just hoping for inclussions of random Flying monkies, exploding toilets, and other such simple minded pleasures (nothing malicious, just silly)
However, Ihave to admit that it would just be FAR to tempting to do a google bomb style prank with this.
1) Generate a number of silly write ups/pictures/videos 2) Wait around for a tempting news article (dubbya saying something inflamitory) 3) Post all of your existing junk with titles that relate to the news piece 4) ????? 5) Laugh as they get included! (err, I mean profit, right)
Oh, and on a side note, I thought that HL2 characters could be fed lines and they would automaticly speak them as well as forming the proper mouth movements....
actualy, there are still a large number of "ethical" fansubers out there as there are still a number of good titles that don't get licensed in the US, and alot of them do take time to get licensed.
Admitedly, 2 of the most popular shows (atm) are Licensed and airing in the US, however Dattebayo is still subing them.
However, this brings up my question. Fansubs (of unlicensed anime), and AMVs have generaly been considered O.K. by the Japanese companies that hold the rights to these shows. Will we see places that direct link to these types of things start to dissapear (AMV.org hosts almost every AMV that is listed on it, there are a number of fansub groups that do alow for direct download instead of torrents)?
wow, now I really need to go grab a copy of Marathon....
your random description reminded me WAY to much of System Shock 2! Heh, though there was one thing that SS2 has that Marathon aparently does not. Psyonics!
Aparently they won a suit against Lik-Sang, however mabey there is something going on there, like any one that orders from Sony wholesale signs an agreement to not sell out of their region.....
The only thing I got out of that article is that I really don't want to be a journalist (Just look at my posts and you will understand why I fear editors), and that I need to reread Transmet.
Could this actualy let MS compeate with Sony in Japan?
I can't wait to see the actual sales numbers sometime next year for the next gen systems, things should be rather interesting then. (My vote is already cast on Wii, and will probably stay that way, however I still am interested)
well, the specifics was that I am only talking about games where the game currency (LDollars for 2nd life and PEDollars for Project Entropia).
Treating them like bonds does not really work as you can't give some one part of a bond (can you?). It is also technicaly possible to straight up make cash in the games with out putting anything into it (atleast it was in PE, very very difficult and a waste of time, but possible).
It is much more like simply dealing in another currency, and as far as I know, currency converssions are not taxed.
However, at the same time you get to play with tihngs like not having to pay sales tax if you order something from out of state (what about out of country? tariffs?), so do I only have to pay tax on items I buy from some one in my state? Or if I am in the same state as the game company?
Also as a side note, there is no mention of things like taxing gp in WoW (or EQ, CoH, Maple Story, or any of the games where the IG currency does not have an offical exchange rate). WoW GP has no offical real world value, and I think it is against the EULA to sell/buy it.
So long as you only look at those MMOs that the IG currency has an out of game (offical) value (IE 2nd life, Project Entropia), then you do have an actual sale going on....
I know NOTHING about taxlaws and strange things that have to do with interstate/country taxes, however If I were to look at this on the most basic level:
You have 2 people that live in the same state, and use a program like PE or 2nd live, that is based in said state. If there is a sale between these 2 people, shouldn't that be covered by local tax laws?
I think I will deffinatly be picking it up then. I love the GTA style sandbox game, and Rockstar's black humour. That and the voice acting reminds me of Fable (a game I still pick up every so often)....
(yes, my FP was really just trying to find out if I wanted to buy the game or not)
Companies like Walmart and this group (I am not a brit, so I am not familiar with 'em). They wana be a family friendly company and only stock family friendly games. So be it.
I am still curious about Bully, is it realy about school violence? To me getting into a fist fight isn't school violence. School violence involves knives, guns, and sever beatings.
Are there any reviews out there on the game yet? or moreo n what the game is HONESTLY like? All I have seen are the numerous articles about that idiot attacking the game, and nothing about what the game is really like.
Is it GTA style? Can you wander around and just pick up 'missions'? Is it a more linear story line ? Is it a linear story line with choice on what path to follow (ala Deus Ex)?
cmon now, I am a gamer, I am interested in the game, not the 'negative' hype!
I ussed to work in retail, our store was horribly slow and our POSs had internet access (with not to much restriction), so we all sat around and played flash games, tooled about on MySpace, or read webcomics (that was me). Every so often our manager would yell at us for doing it, and we would ignore him.
However I made the amusing (and disturbing) discovery that our boss was surfing porn in the back room (was poking through the history for something I had looked up the day before). It was filled with google image searches, and a number of attempts to go to blocked sites. I never actualy brought it up with him, but let the rest of the staff know about it, our idea was to use all the crap we had on him if he ever tried to fire us:P
yup, that was what I was trying to get out. WoW, much like anything else in the world, can be addictive, and it is your own damn fault if you screw up your life.
The only thing I point out is that WoW is an interesting case because: 1) There are no DIRECT harms of it (ala drugs). 2) It is considerably more socialy acceptable then other addictions tend to be (this comes from video games becoming more socialy acceptable, and all I can say about that is w00t). 3) It isn't illegal. 4) It is prevelant. Most poeple know atleast one person that plays, most poeple that play want their RL friends to come join (I convinced my GF, and we use it to spend time together that normaly we could not).
So, you end up with a possible addiciton that is not inherintly evil, is redily avaliable, and your friends probably want you to join. Nifty.
The difference is that people are actualy screwing up their lives over WoW. (agian, not blaming WoW, as I play it my self and have not ruined my life... yet).
I was simply pointing out that the hate on PnPRPGs was (and is) compleatly different then the hate on MMOs. All of the hate on PnP was about it being evil, satan worshiping, getting kids to murder/commit suicide (yes, I have read dark dungeons, yes it is one of my favorite chick tracts ever!). I admit, I am not as old as you all are (I started rping half way through the life of AD&D), and never had to deal with the stupid people untill I was in HS and could easily counter any arguments.
ahh, as you have some valve games already registerd in STEAM this is simple to explain.
All you need to do is poke around and find the little dohicky that lets you backup your games, then burn em to a CD!
100% true
topdown, mouse aiming, keyboard movement goodness.
There are not enough games like that one!
I assume you are reffering to the problems that came about from the launch of HL2 (assuming as you do not elaborate at all).

(I like the work frick.)
OBVIOUSLY!
We know the truth about those dirty pirates STEALING all of the poor artists.
After all, our sales are down, and the ONLY possible explenation is that people are STEALING our^W The Artists' hard work!
Please, won't SOMEONE think of the Artists?
Thank you,
The MPAA

:P
not that hard, now was it

You and me both.
Aparently they won a suit against Lik-Sang, however mabey there is something going on there, like any one that orders from Sony wholesale signs an agreement to not sell out of their region.....
Either way, it is crazy.
wow...
I always assumed that there were contracts and stuff that stoped them from just going "well, we changed our mind.... BYE!"
meh, some one else will pick it up. cmon it is a Jackson and Halo, 2 huge names, some one must be willing to bite.
note I am not a huge fan of Jackson, I only realy like the LotR movies, and I hate Halo, but still.
it is bound to make money.
Project Entropia has a Debit Card.
It automaticly subtracts and converts PEDs into cash.
so yes, I can pay my car loan in PEDs.
The only thing I got out of that article is that I really don't want to be a journalist (Just look at my posts and you will understand why I fear editors), and that I need to reread Transmet.

The game got a 15+ rateing, some guy (aparently likend to Thompson) does not like it, so they are going to have a meeting about it.
Out of curiosity, can Parliment ban a game/movie?
And is The British Board of Film Classification a govn't organisation, or is it like the ESRB?
again.
PEDs and LDs have a specific real world value and can be freely traded between the 2.
This type of "game" is the only one being discussed by me.
WoW/EQ/CoH/Etc are not being talked about by me as most people agree that taxing those would be silly.
