It can't conquer the desktop because it has minimal commercial software support and OSS alternatives are at best mediocre. I say this as someone who administers a RHEL server, who built a mythbox and who used to use Ubuntu and other distros regularly. Fragmentation is the least of desktop Linux's problems.
From wikipedia: "Unlike most traditional microprocessor suppliers, such as Intel, Freescale (the former semiconductor division of Motorola, now NXP Semiconductors) and Renesas (a former joint venture between Hitachi and Mitsubishi Electric), Arm only creates and licenses its technology as intellectual property (IP),[70] rather than manufacturing and selling its own physical CPUs, GPUs, SoCs or microcontrollers."
"University of Massachusetts at Amherst" JSYK the other 2 campuses are effectively community colleges without housing, when you say University of Massachusetts no one's even remotely confused as to what you're talking about.

Why would you polish an object kept under two glass bell jars except for the periodic polishing? Where is that dust coming from? Is it made of neutrinos?

What exactly makes you type a curly quote apostrophe when you post on Slashdot (which for some reason still cannot into Unicode)? I"m not picking on you, it's just that none of my browsers automatically substitute these characters and this makes me curious.
The problem was Sculley greenlighting completely nonsensical platforms like that television/computer abortion which didn't even attempt to leverage a bridge between them. Sculley's idea of progress was some nebulous information finding assistant that looked and acted like a Microsoft project doomed to be forgotten after one launch. John wasn't a bad guy but in the long run Steve made a mistake taking him into Apple.
Steve looked at a problem with failed GPU mounts and ate the cost of extending everyone's warranty to cover them. When the same problem resurfaced after his death, Genius Bar employees were fired for admitting it was an issue, laptop owners were told to spend $600 on replacement mobos with the same exact flaw and it took 3 years and a class action lawsuit for Tim's Apple to admit it was a flaw, extend the warranty AND refund everyone who was hoodwinked into paying for a replacement. In the past five years the company has made the Macbook Pro into a non-pro tier laptop with nonreplaceable components, dependent on a port the industry has largely ignored, added a touch bar no one asked for and no one's trying to copy, and has plans to dump the two things that made it easy to develop crossplat for (OpenGL/OpenCL and Intel CPUs). Mojave has made MacOS incapable of running 32 bit applications, not even a translation layer. Imagine Windows 10 making everything compiled for XP stop running. I love a lot of things about MacOS and Macs but at this point it's pretty difficult to make a case for my next work computer being this backwards incompatible with most of my investment.
"Also, try to have a white-sounding name," Ms. Moore added before stuffing her face with an assortment of Hostess Snack Cakes, inexpensive chocolate smearing her face as the air filled with crumbs dutifully removed by her three french toy poodles.
Those are vendor-specific extensions that have nothing to do with Hayes Smartmodem actions but do things like simulate touch events, read and send back phone data, and other actions normally shielded by security measures. Read the article next time.
Congress even has a special tax-payer fund they use to pay off people who accuse them of sexual harassment - to get the money they have to sign NDA's. Also, Pizzagate was real but the moon landing wasn't.
If you can show even a shred of evidence for that fund I'll be mighty impressed.
I like being able to use style sheets. It's 90% of what makes using Word an enjoyable experience. Google Docs' response to finding style sheets in a document is converting it to inline formatting which defeats the entire purpose of having style sheets in the first place.

dudl.me, but it requires https support now and their cert expired in 2015.

Signing a letter. I guess the pen is mightier than the lawsuit.

Thanks. I use Twitter to follow artists and friends, and because I'm an adult I can filter out what I don't want to see. Agreed on Facebook, though.

Clear something up, are you typing curly quotes/apostrophes on purpose or do you have your browser configured to automatically do that.
Michael Cohen flipped in part because his WhatsApp communications were stored in the cloud unencrypted. I'm surprised the article didn't mention it.

Fruit machines in casinos have to be state certified as honest with their code vetted regularly. Voting machines are largely unregulated.
